Just announced a 4th baby via a surrogate.

Its just so breathtakingly entitled to buy a woman’s body - especially when you already have 3 children?!

No regard for the safety of the surrogate’s body or thought for the baby who would be ripped from their mother at birth.

These people sicken me

Well, that's a ridiculous presumption. No safety to the surrogate? "Ripped from the mother"? What planet are you on?

A realistic planet, you can dress it up anyway you like but that's what it is. How it is legal is beyond me.

I know what you mean , I’m not sure how I feel either as I think well it’s the woman’s body and her choice and she my want to do this for the money/to help. Much like women will be egg donors which also carries a lot of risks .

I know people say as well it’s damaging to a baby but they’ve been in the uterus for months surely as long as the person caring for them is kind and loving and attentive and they are fed and warm and nurtured they will be fine

AndrexPuppy · 29/06/2023 08:44

I am ethically opposed to surrogacy, so it’s a YANBU from me.

EvilElsa · 29/06/2023 08:45

It certainly is the current trend in the celebrity world. Seems like every other B lister is announcing a new baby via surrogate. It's all a bit....Handmaids Tale.

CurlewKate · 29/06/2023 08:45

I'll feel better about surrogacy when rich white women from the developed world see it as a career choice.

PuttingDownRoots · 29/06/2023 08:45

Morally surrogacy is wrong. It doesn't need hyperbole. Its buying another person's body basically.

Chocolatelover3 · 29/06/2023 08:48

These threads are boring. As soon as a celebrity has a baby via surrogate they start popping up on mumsnet.

First of all the poor woman lost her son Jack so mentally was terrified of getting pregnant again. Loss hurts if you have no children previously or 8 children! Very easy to judge unless you have had a miscarriage or stillbirth.

Whilst I can see negatives to surrogacy - especially when woman need the money and go through it despite not really wanting to. I do not think this is the case for a lot of surrogates. I actually follow a few on TikTok who love doing this for other people, and do not see it as ripping the baby away. I’m sure most celebrities go through a proper process when finding the right surrogate. The baby is going to be loved, not to mention obviously have the best of things as they clearly have money. The surrogate will be happy to do this. What is the problem?

Why is it that people support adoption but hate surrogacy?

Mrsjayy · 29/06/2023 08:50

I'm not sure how I feel about surrogacy I do think it has its place but ripping a baby from its mother I mean come on !

Didnt she just have a baby or am I mistaken? I know she sadly lost her son but I thought she was pregnant again soon after ? And literally has a young baby ?

Robotik · 29/06/2023 08:51

She’s always wanted four children, as a child she carried four toys around 🙄 but she decided to try one last time.. and was pregnant at the same time as the surrogate. I’m not a fan of hers anyway but I can’t believe the entitlement. Makes me sick.

She got pregnant quickly after having her stillborn son which was horrific but she wasn’t using a surrogate for the fear of being pregnant again.

Chocolatelover3 · 29/06/2023 08:52

@PicnicInthecar Sorry, yes you are correct!

PicnicInthecar · 29/06/2023 08:52

Oh i see she was pregnant at the same time as the surrogate I was confused!

Adoption is child focused and surrogacy is about what adults want.

MargotBamborough · 29/06/2023 08:53

Oh, this is disappointing.

When she lost her third baby I was at the same stage of my own pregnancy and I really felt for her. And then when she announced she was pregnant again I was also at the same stage of pregnancy so I kind of felt like I identified with her quite a lot.

I wonder whether her issues with infertility and pregnancy loss have made her a bit obsessed with having more and more babies.

But using a surrogate when you already have three beautiful children is kind of obscene IMO.

stealthbanana · 29/06/2023 08:53

it is so grotesque - her youngest is only 5 months old so she got pregnant and STILL continued with the surrogacy. Their initial plan was to get two surrogates pregnant at the same time.

stepping aside from the broader questions about surrogacy, this is just so entitled and consumerist.

x2boys · 29/06/2023 08:41

No-one would do it if they could afford not to. Just like prostitution is “a choice”. It’s not really a choice that most women want to have to make.

Strange how we rarely hear stories from surrogates.

If it is because women want to “help”, then why do we never have celebrities growing babies for poor women who can’t afford fertility treatment?

Meeting · 29/06/2023 08:55

This new trend of celebrities choosing surrogates is sickening.

Khloe Kardashian recently came out and said she wishes she'd have known the reality before going through with it.

There's something incredibly sinister (especially in the cases of women who have and can carry a child) about thinking you're too wealthy/beautiful to carry your own baby and that some other (poorer) woman should do it for you.

GreyDover · 29/06/2023 08:55

PicnicInthecar · 29/06/2023 08:51

She had a TFMR for medical reasons.
She then explored surrogacy but then decided she wanted another roll at IVF at the same time.
She got pregnant.
The surrogate’s first transfer failed.
The surrogate’s second transfer succeeded, when CT was four months pregnant.

Lottapianos · 29/06/2023 08:55

'I’m not a fan of hers anyway but I can’t believe the entitlement. Makes me sick'

Agree, she's just awful. Yes it's a tragedy that she lost her son but there really is no excuse for this

dancinginthesky · 29/06/2023 08:56

We don't know the surrogates situation - some women are happy to and some it's a financial solution that seems like exploitation from rich celebrities

I wish I could in theory use one to expand my family with myself having fertility problems but I don't have the financial means to begin considering it myself to think about how ethical it would or would not be in any particular situation

I don't think there's any "ripping the baby away" from the surrogate- they can legally keep the child until the paperwork is done after birth and the biological donors of egg and sperm don't have any rights I think? So there is protection on that front I believe

SlashBeef · 29/06/2023 08:58

I'm anti surrogacy, I don't understand how what is essentially baby trafficking can be legal and accepted in society.

Robotik · 29/06/2023 08:58

But the baby has been grown by a woman for nine months and they know their sound and smell. The baby doesn’t think hey I didn’t grow from your egg; you’re not my mom! They literally are taken away from the only mother they’ve known for nine months. The primal wound book might be if interest to some of you.

adoption isn’t comparable. Those babies are removed for their safety, and it’s well documented that these babies can go on to have attachment issues
