Chrissy Teigen surrogacy

Just announced a 4th baby via a surrogate.

Its just so breathtakingly entitled to buy a woman’s body - especially when you already have 3 children?!

No regard for the safety of the surrogate’s body or thought for the baby who would be ripped from their mother at birth.

These people sicken me

I also wanted 4. For many reasons but also have HG.
(30 weeks into 4th pregnancy, with HG again!) And I've had friends who've offered to be a surrogate for me. (The HG has me in hosptial so much it really does need lots of planning.) But I couldn't put a baby or other woman through that, I'd rather stop with the children I had or just do the prep to ensure I've got 9 months in a dark room/hosptial and the kids are all prepared etc. My 7 year old comes and sits with me after school and we count the days until I'm all better and there's a baby, so he is super excited for both.
HG is a fucker. I'm so sorry you have had it ruin pregnancy for you x

I had HG when pregnant with twins and it was utterly horrific. The worst time of my life.

I’m actually astounded you’d put yourself and your family through it again. I still feel horribly guilty for the time away from my then 2 year old as I was so ill that I couldn’t get out of bed.

For a fourth child you’d deprive your existing children of their mother for potentially 9 months. I do wonder about people

It is sick. Surrogacy should be illegal.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 29/06/2023 09:59

I've always been on the fence about surrogacy but I read recently that a study had found that dch born to surrogates do always feel lost and as if something is missing in their lives
I agree with the 'ripped from their mothers' comment. It might suit both the women involved but it's not right for the baby.

dancinginthesky · 29/06/2023 09:25

Idk I guess I'm gonna wonder about the ethics from this thread

The bit I'm not getting though is some arguments being "they already have X amount of children"

Like if it's actually unethical in people's minds... why after X amount and not 0 children? No magic number of already existing children suddenly tips it from "understandable" to "unethical" surely?

I’d say it tips it from horrendous to completely ghastly.

Theres no situation in which surrogacy is ok in my opinion but the fact she already has 3 children just makes it even worse

Could someone tell me if surrogacy is legal in the UK? I know a gay couple who went to the US and brought back a baby so i assumed they went there because it was legal there, not here.

Oldpalace123 · 29/06/2023 10:01

Clymene · 29/06/2023 09:56

No. Because other people are involved.

The child will grow up with a Grammy award winning music producing daddy who loves kids, , and a top model celeb whose really into kids, yep a hard life ahead for that baby....with parents worth 100's of millions, who'd want that life?

GADDay · 29/06/2023 10:01

What do we think about a woman offering to carry a baby for a close friend or family member? I know a woman who did this for a dear friend. She is married, has her own children and is involved in the child's life - the child knows that she is her birth mother (sperm donor).

This has been my only personal experience of surrogacy and it was quite a beautiful experience for all involved.

SphincterSaysWhat · 29/06/2023 10:02

CurlewKate · 29/06/2023 08:45

I'll feel better about surrogacy when rich white women from the developed world see it as a career choice.

Hi, I'm a lawyer and I've carried two babies for friends (alongside my own three). This country is much different to the States but I do feel myself conflicted. There's nuance, but I appreciate people have to take their stands on this issue.

Terryer · 29/06/2023 10:02

Why is it that people support adoption but hate surrogacy?

I mean, they are completely different but ok

DollyTheFluffyOne · 29/06/2023 10:03

Later, she shared an adorable clip of newborn Wren getting burped by a baby nanny.

Says it all really.

Toseland · 29/06/2023 10:03

Buying human beings is dealing in slavery.
It's disgusting.
It's the next war on women.

It's legal here but much more tightly controlled than in the US. Payment to the surrogate here is supposed to be limited to expenses. It's possible the law around registration of the birth and acquiring parental responsibility is different too.

Yes, it's legal. There can be no payment (but this happens - it's called "expenses" and usually ranges from £8 - £15K depending on the surrogate's circumstances).

The parents apply for a Parental Order once the baby is 6 weeks old. The surrogate signs the papers, speak with Cafcass and it gets signed off at court.

New birth cert issued for baby and everyone moves on.

Women can't win ,ever...

Have a baby through egg donation =. the baby is not genetically related, its weird, its not normal blah blah blah

Have a baby through surrogacy =. the baby is yours genetically, but the baby will suffer from the ''primal wound'', ripped from the real mother who nurtured the baby for 9 months, its explotation of poor women, blah blah blah...

For fucks sake ...Can't these women do what they want with their bodies and their fertilized eggs?

Women can't win ,ever...

Women using and exploiting other women is not a 'win'.

its explotation of poor women, blah blah blah...

Hmm...You start your post annoyed on the behalf of women, but the finish by seemingly not giving a damn about poor, exploited and coerced women. Is it only rich women who can buy babies who matter?

The surrogates have much fewer rights in the US that’s why and it’s a legal arrangement. Plus you can pay the surrogates.

You can’t do that here - you can only pay expenses so obviously much fewer women choose to do it as no huge payout

You can't really be serious, can you? Being wealthy is no guarantee whatsoever of having a happy life or a stable family.

Mrsjayy · 29/06/2023 10:06

Yes it is legal but the guidelines and laws around UK surrogacy don't suit some so they "shop" abroad.

drpet49 · 29/06/2023 10:06

Babsexxx · 29/06/2023 09:42

I’m not against surrogacy in the correct circumstances, but all these celebs that have birthed there own kids then feel the need to use a surrogate is fucking atrocious and greedy.

I agree with this. She gave birth to her third child 5 months ago!

Oldpalace123 · 29/06/2023 10:08

35965a · 29/06/2023 09:59

It is sick. Surrogacy should be illegal.

How on Earth would you make it illegal?

Anyone in the UK can do IVF if their under 45 with an egg donor, the celeb can donate her egg, the celeb's partner can donate the sperm and the surrogate can go through the motions and get pregnant by IVF , have the baby and hand it over to legal father. Unless there was some compelling reason for the celeb couple to not be fit to be parents, no court would stop this.

OR the celeb father could simply donate his sperm to the carrier, nothing illegal about that and then the carrier hands over baby to legal father.

You couldn't make it 'illegal'.

Surrogacy is as old as the Bible.

Mrsjayy · 29/06/2023 10:08

The surrogate is the birth mother on the birth certificate in the UK that is why gay or not couples go abroad.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 29/06/2023 10:09

toodledo · 29/06/2023 08:39

Well, that's a ridiculous presumption. No safety to the surrogate? "Ripped from the mother"? What planet are you on?

Pregnancy via IVF is more risky to women than a natural one. Babies also bond with their mother while in-utero.

Read what I typed, John Legend and Chrissy (at least outwardly) seem to be really into their children, that's enough for me, having a shit load of money helps, unless you live in a fantasy world where 'money doesnt matter'.

  1. Women don't need to "win" in this context. The baby needs to win. Women, like men, can make their own choices without the validation of the entire world.

  2. You are deliberately putting words in people's mouths. To help you out here, nothing wrong with egg donation or sperm donor situations, or adoption of an unwanted baby. What I feel is wrong is making the deliberate choice to create a baby to be taken immediately from its mother.

Other opinions are available.

The birth mother is on the birth certificate in the USA too for goodness sake, the only difference between abroad and here is surrogacy is enforcable in the USA , its not in the UK, so its binding contract to hand over baby and the couple be they two dads, straight couple, two women who can't give birth, are legal adoptive parents.

Meepme · 29/06/2023 10:12

I dont think Chrissy is as nice as people think - she's lucky she got out of this unscathed, plus the alleged rumours about her being on the Epstein girls. Add to that the stupid photoshoot after she had just lost her baby. There's something not right about her.
