To not be able to stop thinking about the Titan tragedy?

I cannot get those poor men out of my mind. It seems to have quietened down in the news now, but every so often I catch myself thinking of them and their poor families who are now having to adjust to life without them.

It is so, so sad.

OP posts:
BrownEyesBlueSkies · 25/06/2023 21:45

What upsets me most is thinking of them being instantly liquified. I've had nightmares about it.

Perfect example. Wtaf?

MavisMcMinty · 25/06/2023 21:45

To me that’s the least upsetting way for them to have died! Instantaneous, and unless the vessel started creaking and cracking first, they’d have known nothing about it.

LuckyCats · 25/06/2023 21:46

It is sad as any loss of life is no matter how much money you’ve got in the bank.
The migrants shouldn’t be dying the way they are either.
They should be stopped before they start.
There is no war or persecution in France so some of these migrants are taking unnecessarily risky voyages the same as these billionaires did, admittedly for more virtuous reasons, but If they can pay people traffickers they are the equivalent of billionaires compared to refugees and others with no options.

tommyshelbysbunnit · 25/06/2023 21:47

I think it's time to let them rest and their families grieve, it's not our grief

They weren't travelling from France.

Good grief.

Coffeelotsofcoffee · 25/06/2023 21:51

Haha mumsnet at its finest

"I feel really sad for the recent tragedy and the lives lost and the families having to come to terms with life without their loved ones "

Mumsnetters :
"fuck you you whore"

defi · 25/06/2023 21:52

As far as deaths go it's a nice one. They wouldn't have registered what happened. Unlike migrants crossing the channel that died the other week

Daisybuttercup12345 · 25/06/2023 21:53

SirenSays · 25/06/2023 20:50

Jesus is that how some of you operate. You can only give a shit about one thing at a time? Or is there some new mumsnet ruling that you can only post about the thing you care about most in the entire world?

I'm with you OP I think it's a very sad situation and I feel very sorry for their families. I also care about many other things, imagine that.

This

LuckyCats · 25/06/2023 21:54

The migrants who died off Greece were coming from Lybia.
Nobody should be dying in the channel, there is no war in France.

LadyKenya · 25/06/2023 21:55

Tomateen · 25/06/2023 21:04

No one’s life is worth any more than anyone else’s.

Someone forgot to inform the press of that fact.

FlyAwayTonight · 25/06/2023 21:55

Yep. OP needs to prove she is the most upset by having her own thread. Ffs. Just another grief thief.

Do these people not think everyone else feels for these people but it goes without saying that it’s fucking tragic. It’s like they must just say every thought that’s in their fucking head!

This.

justcantgetenough · 25/06/2023 21:58

People day everyday, most your never hear off or briefly mentioned. This got so much news as it was different, plus that small hope they would be found.

What annoys me is the desperation the papers, news channels in finding a twist, why did we need to know about Ross Kemp nearly got on it or others.

It's like when a car hits a wall, there could have been a child walking past! There wasn't A disaster and someone missed their normal bus so could have been them.

I think what's making it worst is the 19 year old being on it, who apparently only didn't want to be there.

Hollywood didn't get there happy ending but guess a film will still be made.

MissAmbrosia · 25/06/2023 21:59

I think about the women and children in that boat in Greece - below decks - that never stood a chance. It's sad when anyone dies - but the titanic people chose to be there - teenager aside - and should have known the risks.

Coolhwip · 25/06/2023 21:59

I’ve filed it under things that would never happen to me just because of my mental health right now. Apart from the arguably the 19yo, they were old enough to assess the risks and make a choice.

Air plane disasters do obsess me though.

Butchyrestingface · 25/06/2023 22:00

Why are you upset about that? Would you prefer a long, drawn-out terrified death for them?

Of all the unfavourable outcomes in this scenario, instantaneous death must surely be the best.

Yeah, it was a perfectly nice death for the 19 year old lad. Hope his mum isn't reading this.

Agreed. The thought of being in that tiny space for 96 hours knowing death was likely was anxiety inducing but the reality was a relief in comparison.

Jesus Christ. Think before you write ffs.

MumUndone · 25/06/2023 22:03

I agree OP. It gives me the heebie jeebies. Something about being so far down.

I imagine it was a huge relief for his mum that her son didn’t suffer.

SleeplessinScarbourough · 25/06/2023 22:03

Hardly more money than sense and it wasn’t a “jolly”. They were doing research as part of it. And the fact they were billionaires means they weren’t low intelligence and contributing nothing to society. These are great minds we have lost and that deserves some time of sad reflection.

HappyBinosaur · 25/06/2023 22:03

My colleague was very good friends with one of them 😞 Their kids went to the same school. She had her phone on her constantly last week waiting for updates from his wife.
Whatever people think about them being irresponsible or over privileged, they were real people with families.
