Well just that really….I have gay, straight, bi sexual and transsexual friends and absolutely have no problem with that, very much a do what makes you happy person.

Butttt….AIBU to think the world is going a bit mad with all the non-female, cis female and whatever other labels are floating about. I’m a woman and that’s that, you are either biologically a male or biologically a female and I don’t mean that in an insensitive way dress how you like and date who you like but surely we can’t just be inventing different/new sexes and telling straight women they are no longer a woman they are now XYZ?

You seem to have very diverse friends. Just out of interest do your trans friends believe there are only 2 sexes? If they do why do they say they are trans? If they believe in more than two sexes why do you indulge them?

Being trans has nothing to do with sex.

Trans identifying people used to be tested for disorders of sexual development, but this was stopped as it was discovered that the rates of these conditions was the same as that of the general population.

A trans identifying person may have a dsd but this isn't the reason they are trans. Gender and sex are different. There can be as many different genders as your mind can conceive of, but there are only two sexes.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 23/06/2023 15:23

It is very interesting that those arguing against there only being 2 sexes are using the offensive and outdated term of intersex rather than DSD despite it being pointed out that its offensive. It does lead me to suspect its deliberately obstructive

luffkinks · 23/06/2023 15:24

@Clementineorsatsuma

Have you not read the thread.

She is saying that 11% of the population are left handed.
And you said that more that 11% were born with DSD.

You're very wrong!

Clementineorsatsuma · 23/06/2023 15:20

@TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening

Are you implying that intersex is not real? A scientifically proven biological situation?

The term is DSD, most people with a DSD don't want to be dragged into the whole trans argument. Please can you do some research about the subject. There are lots of different DSDs, but as myself and others have said we have reached a point where tests can establish whether an individual is biologically male or female and exactly what is the nature of the DSD.
And yes I do know people who have a DSD.

I posted a video upthread for starters. It's no shame not to know by the way, all the press around Semenya for years was about obfuscating the truth. All the drawn out sports bodies decisions and wranglings, and media insinuating that it was racist to suggest Semenya was a male, or making reference to Semenya having 'naturally high testosterone ' was all obscuring the facts that Semenya is male and everyone involved has know that for at least the last 10 years of Semenya's career

And for a much more heartening example, maybe look up the skier Erik/Erika Schinegger, found to be genetically male with internal testes after winning the 1966 women's championship:

'Schinegger was not retroactively stripped of the World championship title, but the then runner-up Marielle Goitschel was retroactively awarded the gold medal as well. In 1988 Schinegger himself presented his World Championship gold medal to Marielle Goitschel, however, she gave him back the medal.'

Some people are born neither male or female.

No. Wrong. Uninformed.

Isn’t it? It’s almost as if those ppl don’t the first thing about DSD beyond weaponising it as a gotcha to scold women who don’t agree TWAW

Clementineorsatsuma · 23/06/2023 15:15

The same number of people are born intersex as are left handed. Fact.
It's the most common reason for infertility.
It may not be obvious to the person and many only find out that they are intersex when trying for a baby.

Not even slightly a fact. 0.018% of the population has a DSD (as many PP have said, intersex is offensive and outdated). 10% are left handed. DSD are not the most common cause of infertility (I believe that is ovulation issues) and people with DSDs don't find out about them only when trying for a baby, they can cause many health problems outside of reproduction.

theDudesmummy · 23/06/2023 15:26

@Clementineorsatsuma Please do listen to what people are saying.

"Intersex" is an old previously-used term for DSD, which like many outdated medical terms, is no longer used and is considered offensive by the people that have the condition described. Can you please respect that. Do you do around calling people mongols, idiots or spastics? Those were all accepted medical terms in their day, with specific definitions, but we don't use them any more and they are considered very offensive.

And no, there are not as many DSD people as left-handed people. That is simply untrue. Argument and debate is fine but you cannot just make things up.

Naunet · 23/06/2023 15:27

User087 · 23/06/2023 15:16

Sounds as though you need to do the looking up. Intersex is not a sex.

And can I just say, thank you so much TRAs for creating this new backwards confusion around people with DSDs in order to push your trans agenda.
They really don’t give a shit who they hurt; women, people with DSDs, lesbians, gays, children, transsexuals etc. All just fodder to them.

Florissante · 23/06/2023 15:27

Mamabear04 · 23/06/2023 13:47

Some people are intersex so there are three sexes, female, male and intersex. Gender is a whole other story.

Intersex - which is a term that is no longer used and is now called a disorder of sexual development - does not exist as a sex.

I have read some stupid, uniformed, jaw-dropping tripe on MN but this is by the far the most egregious.

CoalCraft · 23/06/2023 15:30

Horrible la k of empathy for people with DSD on this thread. So someone was born with apparently female genitalia and was raised as a girl, always believed themselves to be female and built being female into their identity, but then turns out to have XY chromosomes, should immediately abandon their previous lifestyle and adopt, essentially, a new persona, because, suddenly, they're a man?

Do I think such a person should be allowed to compete in the female category I'm sports? No, but I don't think their identity as a woman should be denied either.

Florissante · 23/06/2023 15:30

uninformed

loislovesstewie · 23/06/2023 15:31

We're not going down the route of saying that women with PCOS are actually male are we? Did I see that on Mumsnet or elsewhere?

I do indeed having a few gay friends who work in theatre has opened a whole new world 😂 and no they don’t we have spoke about it before and I’ve stated as I did in my post that you either have male insides or female insides and they agree you can feel like you should have been a female but it doesn’t mean you are are one. Obviously mentally there’s a lot going on but biologically there’s not. If I had a friend that insisted I wasn’t a woman I was a cis woman and referred to me as such I don’t think the friendship would work out because it feels like someone telling me I’m not what I am

A reminder folks that same sex attraction is completely different to being trans. Please stop saying ones just like the other

ItJustFellOutLikeWordVomit · 23/06/2023 15:32

And to confirm in my above post I’m not referring to people who were born with dsd

I'm not an expert but I thought it was a case of the inner organs didn't match up with the outer ones. Maybe I'm wrong though. I know countries like India and Thailand recognise a third sex and have done for a long time.

Third gender, not third sex.

An original idea for a thread, good job.

Most original discussion I’ve ever seen. Enthralling.

There are two sexes. The earth isn't flat. A pantomime horse is not a horse. All of this is knowledge and not opinion.

I knew all about the sex thing, but I'm very shocked, nay (neigh) devastated, regarding pantomime horses

Begsthequestion · 23/06/2023 15:34

What would you (and others on this thread) say to an adult person (30+) who was born with a female-sexed body (XX) but who never felt like they were a woman, or ever understood from personal experience what "being a woman" meant?

Genuine question.

@ASGIRC

It is absolutely not akin to being Gay 30 years ago.

Gay rights were asking for the law to include protections not to discriminate.

Trans already have protection in law specifically for trans people.

Gay rights were asking for marriage to be legal

Trans people can legally marry whom ever they want.

What rights do trans people not have?

Being Gay is a reality, a man who is attracted to a man. It is reality, it doesn't affect anyone else's rights.

Virtually all humans are born with an intended reproductive strategy of a few small gametes or many tiny gametes. This is male sex or female sex.

Culture and governance detetmines how far sex dictates activities a human is allowed culturally or legally to participate in.

There have always been some men who prefer to do undertake women's activities and vice versa. In some cultures this is 'allowed' by saying these people are the opposite sex or a third sex.

There is currently a problem in western cultures and governance because (1) the many tiny gametes strategy can be associated with violence towards those with the few small gametes strategy (2) the many tiny gametes strategy is associated with being stronger, faster and popularity so competitions with no sex barrier reduce chances of those with the few small gametes strategy winning

Gender is self reported so is unreliable. Its use by some Gen z appears to be refer to what sort of creature and sex you think you are. Previously most people used it because they were embarrassed to use the word'sex'and saw it as interchangeable with sex.it is unlikely there are 72 ways to decide who you think might be in your head. People can visualise up to 7 of an item in their head and after that it's just 'many'

Previously most people used it because they were embarrassed to use the word'sex'and saw it as interchangeable with sex.

I agree with your post but it's really the part highlighted above that really resonates.

I do think that part of this mess confusionhas been caused by the embarrassment (for some) using the word sex, so gender has been substituted as a result. The US's penchant for gender reveal parties is part of the problem - they're not revealing the baby's gender, they're revealing its sex.
