There are two sexes…

Well just that really….I have gay, straight, bi sexual and transsexual friends and absolutely have no problem with that, very much a do what makes you happy person.

Butttt….AIBU to think the world is going a bit mad with all the non-female, cis female and whatever other labels are floating about. I’m a woman and that’s that, you are either biologically a male or biologically a female and I don’t mean that in an insensitive way dress how you like and date who you like but surely we can’t just be inventing different/new sexes and telling straight women they are no longer a woman they are now XYZ?

Not a doctor, I should imagine if the phenotype is typically male then they will be raised male, possibly not even diagnosed but almost certainly infertile.

If phenotypically female then the same - also possibly not diagnosed until puberty, almost always infertile.

I don't know what the investigation and decision making process will be for vey ambiguous genitalia and possibly streak gonads. Still not a third sex, probably no gametes.

This is where it gets interesting...
As a philosophical exercise, how is the sex of such a person determined? Are they sexless? Both sexes?
Agree there is no such thing as a 'third sex'

And for the sake of clarity to any other readers who may still be here, no-one can 'change sex', and sex is most definitely not a 'spectrum' despite the existence of vanishingly rare chimera cases.

Off to bed now, as getting up very early tomorrow.

Dangerous how society has ran with this and so many in IRL are terrified about offending anyone.

Needed to have been stopped in its tracks a long time ago.

It wasn't an accident. This ideology has deliberately and quietly infiltrated government, the civil service, the law, the NHS and many other institutions, without most people noticing or understanding the implications.

LaPerduta · 23/06/2023 22:43

I am intersex. There is an awful lot of misinformation/misapprehension on this thread.

I don't mind the term intersex, but I absolutely do not accept DSDs being used as "proof" of sex being generally non-binary, or as justification for trans ideology.

It is difficult enough to be an intersex woman without trans women using us as proof that you can be a woman with XY chromosomes. Not unless you have a very specific congenital condition you can't.

No trans woman has a womb, fallopian tubes and a vagina, and a complete absence of male characteristics.

FurryPelmet · 23/06/2023 22:45

SummerLovingg · 23/06/2023 13:42

Some people are born neither male or female.

No, they absolutely are not. If you mean people with DSDs (who used to be labelled ‘intersex’ but thankfully this has changed because it’s dated) they are still biologically either male or female, and not something in between the sexes or a third sex.

Not one single human on this planet is anything other than a male or a female.

The gender activists are doing their best to try to get the world to think that the educated people are the ones who understand new developments and sophisticated nuances in science that place sex on a binary scale. The ones who actually understand the science are supposedly just not up to date with the changing world of biology. Interestingly, none are prepared to sit on a panel with biological scientists and have each and every one of their claims addressed.

The proper scientists would have a field day. It’s like trying to convince flat earthers that they are talking absolute crap when millions of other flat earthers are sharing memes and pseudo science and nodding encouragingly and blocking anyone who wishes to challenge them with some facts.

It’s also why this poll is currently at 93%.

LaPerduta · 23/06/2023 22:48

DogandMog · 23/06/2023 19:01

It's not the chromosomes per se which determine sex... it is the genes within those chromosomes which do. Hence it is possible (but extremely rare) for a woman to have XY chromosomes, and for a man to have XX chromosomes. The conditions are Swyer syndrome and De La Chapelle syndrome.

The deciding gene is SRY... if it is activated, then a male reproductive physiology develops, and if it is silent then a female reproductive system develops. A male reproductive developmental pathway is called a Wolffian system, and a female pathway is called a Müllerian system.

But... just as clown fish biology only pertains to... clown fish, the medical biology of DSDs only pertains to people diagnosed with DSDs. No political or sociological claims can be extrapolated out of such conditions into the general population to attempt to assert notions about the mutability of sex. In gonochoric species (all mammals, all birds & 98% of fish) sex is as binary as it gets.

Hurrah. Accurate and clear. Agree 100%. Thank you. (I have Swyer's Syndrome.)

What about identifying as a cat? 🐱

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 17:05

That person has both sexes and they can choose. which sex they feel is right - male or female.

Why make a statement like this which is totally inaccurate? You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

LaPerduta · 23/06/2023 23:06

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 17:19

Dont be so literal. Honestly. Im not intersex so I don't know how they decide. I guess they have to choose one or the other. I know it is a medical condition. If that isn't based on how they feel about what sex they are ive no idea. Maybe the parents decide.

Please just stop now.

LaPerduta · 23/06/2023 23:08

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 17:19

I always thought it was decided later on though. Ive no idea. No need to be so aggressive.

If you've no idea then STFU!

thebloodycatwontstopmeowing · 23/06/2023 23:09

It's getting so ridiculous

Born with penis = male/man
Born with vag = female/woman

That can't be changed

This. Biology is not a spectrum, clown fish are not humans, DSDs are nothing to do with trans. There isn't a cool new biology based on feelz, no matter how much some people think that wanting something to be true means it becomes true.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 23/06/2023 23:59

Someone I know said trans is actually real because there are trans lions.
What?
Is that Mufasa in a dress and lipstick?
She also said there are at least six sexes.
No surprises that she's not keen on me anymore..

porridgecake · 24/06/2023 00:01

Perhaps they got mixed up with sealions. Easy mistake to make.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 24/06/2023 00:22

Do they come in at least six sexes?

Hidinginaonesie · 24/06/2023 01:01

Off topic, forgive me, but in reading both this thread and the missing titanic sub threads, both the knowledge and the ignorance on mn has astounded me!
As you were.

HatThatWearsYou · 24/06/2023 01:35

@Begsthequestion As you don't really have a gender identity, do you ever feel like you can't really relate to the idea of being a woman? Does it ever make you feel uncomfortable, or like it's less apt a term than it is for someone who does feel like they have a (female) gender identity?

I actually had to take a break from the thread after reading this.

Are you suggesting that I, as a GNC biological woman who doesn't have a "gender identity", and doesn't relate to the stereotypes "idea" of being a woman, should feel guilted "uncomfortable" enough to allow male people to appropriate the words that define my sex... because they can "woman" better?

Because if so... No!

caringcarer · 24/06/2023 02:37

Mamabear04 · 23/06/2023 13:47

Some people are intersex so there are three sexes, female, male and intersex. Gender is a whole other story.

But even intersex people have a chromosonal sex. They test for chromosomes then look at internal genitalia then external genitalia then make a decision if intersex person is actually male or female based on other 3 factors. Very very few people have both a uterus and a penis and if they did they would talk with parents about how to bring the child up. Some males appear female as have micro penis and their testes are not descended but they still have them internally and they do an op to bring them down. Once they are down their micro penis grows.

Wholly not in the spirit of this thread, but an anagram of Caster Semenya is "Yes, a secret man".

Yes indeed, the pinnacle for mumsnet has been reached, an anagram for Caster Semenya.

Truly, no higher aspiration is attainable.
