There are two sexes…

Well just that really….I have gay, straight, bi sexual and transsexual friends and absolutely have no problem with that, very much a do what makes you happy person.

Butttt….AIBU to think the world is going a bit mad with all the non-female, cis female and whatever other labels are floating about. I’m a woman and that’s that, you are either biologically a male or biologically a female and I don’t mean that in an insensitive way dress how you like and date who you like but surely we can’t just be inventing different/new sexes and telling straight women they are no longer a woman they are now XYZ?

Some people are born neither male or female.

Bollocks 🙄

Kucinghitam · 24/06/2023 05:17

@LaPerduta I am so sorry that you're having to read all this utter bollocks from some posters (those who would no doubt be confidently labelling themselves as Good People, Being Kind, etc).

Prettypromise · 24/06/2023 05:28

Exactly this! 😂

OhWhatMerryHellIsThis · 23/06/2023 17:16

Can I just confirm that the 6% who disagree with the op are using these two arguments:

1: But Intersex [sic]
2: But Caster Semenya

I may have missed it but are there any others? Clown fish perhaps?

Exactly This! 😂

MinnieMountain · 24/06/2023 05:38

When the sonographer told us DS was male, he said “people sometimes ask are you sure and I say yes, there’s the penis and there’s the testicles”. It’s not a difficult question.

Prettypromise · 24/06/2023 05:38

TheTellTaleHeart · 23/06/2023 17:40

Christ, I can’t believe I’ve got to page 16 of this thread and there are still people rocking up talking about “intersex” and Caster Semenyas “vagina” 🤦🏻‍♀️ FFS are you not reading anything anyone else has written?

Even if DSDs did result in three sexes, which they don’t, it still wouldn’t describe trans people, who overwhelmingly do not have a DSD, so I really can’t see why it comes into the debate, apart from deliberate obfuscation and misdirection.

My thoughts exactly, I was literally over that debate by page 2.

loislovesstewie · 24/06/2023 05:49

I've been to bed and got up to 'but there are intersex' and 'some people are born neither male nor female' !!!!! Just NO!

Bornafreak · 24/06/2023 06:50

suggestionsplease1 · 23/06/2023 15:37

Many people with DSDs are quite happy with the term intersex, actually.

But that doesn't fit in with the political motivations and machinations of others, hence why you see this line parroted here frequently.

I was born with a DSD and I find the term “intersex” offensive.
When I was born I wasn’t assigned anything and doctors did a chromosome test and I’m now middle-aged, so it wasn’t a matter of tossing a coin and hoping for the best.
I still have a womb and ovaries although I have required gynae plastic surgery.
I have been plagued with self loathing about how I was born at times and find it offensive as how some are arguing about it as some sort of gotcha and are very ill-informed while presenting themselves as a font of knowledge.

Julioop · 24/06/2023 07:07

You hear “it’s basic biology” as an argument all the time. But we’re incredibly complex, and basic doesn’t cover it at all. There are more intersex people than people with green eyes or red hair. This ranges from things like Turner’s syndrome which is what Jamie Lee Curtis is rumoured to have, to being born with both sets of genitals. They’re even currently exploring the idea that PCOS is under the intersex banner, as it is an overproduction of testosterone in women (and something like 1 in 10 women experience this). And this is all without talking about gender and its cultural significance throughout history, such as the two spirited people within Native American tribes who had both male and female roles and were revered for this.

In terms of the word cis, it would only be used in a context when discussing trans people e.g. cis women and trans women. It’s a Latin prefix that has been used for centuries. Also you can be a cis woman and be a lesbian or bisexual, it is just simply that you identify as the sex you were born as.

Helleofabore · 24/06/2023 07:09

Flowers to those reading and now posting with these differences. If it is any consolation, as a reader of one of these threads a couple of years ago, it was through posters such as yourselves that gave greater understanding.

You might find this interesting. Colin Wright is a developmental biologist.

Intersex Is Not as Common as Red Hair

The claim that intersex people comprise 1.7% of the population is wildly inaccurate.

And as a woman, I find ‘cis’ to be offensive if is being applied to me. This is language that has been fed from someone else’s ideological beliefs.

It has been appropriated from other uses to fit the purpose for making women a subset of their own category.

I can only assume you either haven't read the thread or you are being intentionally offensive. Posters have pointed out MANY times that the word intersex is outdated and offensive but you persist, why? Are you prioritising gender ideology at the expense of everyone else?

When people say its "basic biology" they are pointing out that there are only two sexes and that DSD's (differences of sex developments) are not evidence to the contrary. Regardless of variations, all people with DSD's are either male or female. The number of people born with ambiguous genitalia is a very small percentage of those with DSD's and advanced testing can easily determine their sex. PCOS is not a DSD. Please do not use internet gossip to speculate about the health of people you do not know, especially for such a deeply personal issue.

I'm not sure why you are referencing "two spirit" people in a paragraph where you are berating the rest of us for having, in your view, an over simplified understanding of biology. You do know sex and gender are different, don't you? Sex is fixed and immutable, there are two, male and female. Gender is socially and culturally constructed and changes over time. The two things are not the same.

Cis assumes a belief in gender ideology, it assumes that I need to tell the world I "identify" as a woman. I won't stop being a woman even if I refuse the prefix cis. Your history lesson on cis is wasted, lots of us already know the background and we reject it. You admit it would only be used to differentiate between women and men which say they are women. We already have words to make that distinction. Do not dare use cis to refer to me, feel free to call yourself what you like.

How does one “feel like a woman”? 🤔

Ask Shania Twaine ???

loislovesstewie · 24/06/2023 07:53

Several pages ago I said ' I wonder when someone will say that women with PCOS are actually male'. It took long enough but now we have someone coming up with this complete baloney! I am not a man, I have never been Aman, I had PCOS for most of my adult life, when I reached the menopause it stopped! I have none of the symptoms now, no acne, no excess hair, no greasy hair or skin, I'm still a woman just like I have always been. I feel quite enraged that people are coming up with this complete rubbish. Trying to make things fit so they can say there are more than 2 sexes, coming up with rare cases to prove their point. Sorry I'm off to get a cold compress on my head before it explodes. Please stop this nonsense and stop talking out of your backsides.

I just give up on trying to explain about the use of the term intersex...

You and me both. Whether by stupidity or design some people just don't listen.

Kucinghitam · 24/06/2023 07:58

Dear undecided lurkers: Do you think the self-identified BeKind GoodPeople are actually Being Kind? See how they ignore post after post that patiently debunks their tropes and clarifies the scientific facts? See how they ignore posts from people pleading not to have their medical conditions appropriated for irrelevant ideology? See how they declare that people with polycystic ovary syndrome are somehow not properly female? Is this Being Kind?

Helleofabore · 24/06/2023 08:05

”Julioop”

I suggest that you expand your reading repertoire. Your post reads as if you have consumed all the misinformation from current gender theory and regurgitated it here on this thread. Without even reading the last two pages and the contributions from people with the medical conditions you breezily have politically used to make your point. Plus your points are all based on ideological thinking and seem to only superficially understand what you believe you know.

However.

And this is all without talking about gender and its cultural significance throughout history, such as the two spirited people within Native American tribes who had both male and female roles and were revered for this.

Do YOU understand the cultural significance of the very people you are politically utilising here? Do you understand that there are people from those groups, and many of the other cultural groups also similarly appropriated by activists, that have pointed out those were male people who were homosexual? You have just supported the othering of homosexual males in your statement. Did you mean to do that?

Poof!

What rubbish!

What can a degree and doctorate - possibly a professorship - followed by a distinguished career in developmental biology teach TRAs that a 3 minute trawl of a trans-promoting echo chamber on social media can't?

I was going to post something similar.

Some of us read and learn. Others don't even bother to read .

If revelling in ignorance didn't adversely affect other people they are welcome to be like that, but spouting rubbish about very complex medical conditions, and refusing to listen to he people who have those conditions is both insulting and harmful.

To those with DSD conditions - thank you for posting, for giving your perspective on what is a deeply personal and often painful part of your lives, and for helping others among us to understand the difficulties you face. And I'm sorry that you have to face the deliberate ignorance of people like some who post here.
