Is anyone else 'Fappy'?

Is anyone else the above ? Fat and happy? (Not my abbreviation i saw it online) I've tried it all - slimming world, weight watchers, Cambridge, intermittent fasting, keto, low carbs, gym 7 days a week etc etc and I never drop below 100kg (I'm 5'8") and I'm so miserable
My options are either accept it (I'm healthy just big- size 16/18) and move on or look at a gastric band/bypass etc etc.

Is anyone else 'Fappy'? Am I being ridiculous even considering doing that and accepting my size?

YABU get the bypass you'll never be happy
YANBU I'm Fappy and you can be too

I had to tell my sister that nonce was slang for paedophile the other day after she kept calling me and my mum one. Turns out she thought it was a joke term for someone who talked nonsense.

😂Sorry but that's actually quite sweet.

Bananasfor · 22/06/2023 22:07

I’m another person who tried everything but found high protein/fat and relatively low carb (a bit like the boot camps they do on here but less strict) is the only thing that ‘worked’ for me (I lost weight and have kept it off pretty consistently, even when I have more carbs for a while, I just go back on it again). Everything else just made me hungry.

BUT I fully believe people can be any size and be happy - or ‘fappy’!

It’s also a perfectly legitimate term in cryptography. Apparently. Obviously tech bros aren’t familiar with that either.

flyingtherag · 22/06/2023 22:08

I tried to be fat & happy but it didn’t work for me. I’m 5’8” and privately funded a gastric band 12 years ago.

I think the rules have changed and I’m not recommending it per se but it was absolutely life changing for me.

It did what it was supposed to do. Lost weight, got fit and healthy too.

Grumpy101 · 22/06/2023 22:08

100kg is a lot at 5'8". Your body is under a lot of stress. You need to go into a calorie deficit and be very consistent for a while. Exercise is good but not for weight loss. It's good that you're happy as I find i need to be in the right frame of mind for a diet. You should try again once holidays are out of the way.

Hollyppp · 22/06/2023 22:15

Hypnotherapy? Just normal therapy?

I would try and then get the gastric band. I’m slim but eat loads - I think I have a fast metabolism but what I’m trying to say is if I had to control my calories I would find it so tough, I have no self control at all. So I feel for you

zeldamccoy · 22/06/2023 22:16

Better not say that around any teenage boys!

Fapping has meant wanking for years and years. Like 15-20 years at least. Fappy definitely wouldn't make most people think 'fat and happy', sorry 😬😂

Bloody hilarious 🤣

Merryoldgoat · 22/06/2023 22:37

@SoftSheen

Bodies run just as well on ketones. We can run on both. That’s how the body has adapted to survive.

Cereals have no benefit you can’t get better from other foods.

You can have beans and pulses on keto.

You can have a fairly large selection of fruit on Keto diets.

You can have small amounts of starchy veg but again, all of the benefits can be gained perfectly from non-starch vegetables.

You don’t have to like it but it’s not a fad diet - it has significant health benefits, can put T2 diabetes into remission in months and improves metabolic health significantly more than pure calorie restriction.

SoftSheen · 22/06/2023 21:59

Keto is a fad diet. OK, nobody needs refined sugar and processed 'white' carbs in their diet. But wholegrain cereals, beans, fruit and 'starchy' vegetables like potatoes and carrots are good for you. Our bodies are adapted to get most of their energy from carbohydrates.

Keto is a way of eating, it isn't a fad diet. It changes things in your body/brain. Which is why people are put on keto diets while epilepsy meds are being sorted out etc. If you've been obese for a while, you may need to make changes, that deal with hunger levels/cravings etc. It's great to kickstart post menopausal weight gain and control the symptoms.

I put on weight in my late 40's. I was nearly 17 stone at one point. I used Exante as part of calorie counting. I hovered just under 14 stone, which I was ok with. Then I went towards my middle 50's and that's when I got joint pain etc. You aren't healthy at a size 18, especially if there's vanity sizing going on and within ten years, you'll know about it. I use intermittent fasting, now, which has the backing of my consultants. I have nerve issues and chronic fatigue. I'm amazed that I'm not hungry. I eat for a four hour period and my energy is through the roof. I don't believe that eating for health is a one size fits all. When I was doing Exante it was really frustrating that people gave up after a few weeks because they wasn't losing enough. I think that if something isn't working, change it, but you've got to give it long enough, before you quit.

Carouselfish · 22/06/2023 22:40

I am actually! Always been naturally slim and able to stuff my face with no consequences. Suddenly hit late 30s and metabolism dropped. Also went on medication that made me very hungry. So...whumph (sound of expansion). I don't mind 90 percent of the time because I am emotionally a lot happier than I ever was and I'm not bothered about trying to attract a mate. The ten percent I get a bit urgh about, are when I'm in a swimsuit or can't wear old clothes I like. I also don't want to be QUITE so unfit. But, I still want to eat!
I tried an app recently that I stuck to religiously and dropped a stone in 4 weeks. And then I had a hungry lapse and haven't carried on with it. But...I know I CAN do it, if sufficiently motivated. I'm just...not...most of the time!!
I also feel I've had my heyday of being a headturner and having lots of fabulous sex, so I don't feel like I've missed out. This is more like a new phase; I probably wouldn't feel the same if I'd always been like it.

TennisWithDeborah · 22/06/2023 22:42

I was happy when my BMI was 35 and I’m happy now. That’s because I have lovely kids, a decent partner, great friends and a job I quite like. I wasn’t healthy though and that was problematic - but I was not miserable. So yes, you can be.

TheCig · 22/06/2023 22:43

Never heard that slang before!

In answer to your question though, don't lean in to a combination of fat and happy. If you're happy that's great. But never give up 100% Just push out breakfast for an hour. Cut out sugar and biscuits.

I been keto, lost a lot of weight but i couldn't keep it up. So now I'm just no biscuits, white bread, white rice/pasta/bread, no white flour, cake (obviously). There's loads I can eat though, it's easier than keto. Easier than calorie counting. My weight loss has been slow but still going in the right direction.

Some of the American BoPos whip people up in to accepting their fatness to the point where they are DETERMINED to not try to lose even a GRAM. It's not healthy. Even though they say HAAW

bonzaitree · 22/06/2023 22:46

I think Saxenda or Ozempic would be worth a try.

defo better than a gastric sleeve

Bloody hilarious 🤣

I've taught teenagers forever. Been teaching a level language for a long time. Thought I was pretty clued up on all manner of slang terms. Never heard fapping. How have I missed that? Is it a southern thing?

Alltheclogs · 22/06/2023 22:56

I am fat and happy! 5’5 and size 22. I don’t have any problem with how I look. I’ve also been very thin and my life wasn’t any better or worse.

Connotations for health are a separate issue however.

Being fat is no reason to have any negative feelings about yourself!

I'm 46 and I only found out this year that nonce doesn't mean someone is talking nonsense but means pedo!

SnapPop · 22/06/2023 20:47

I thought a gastric band is aimed at someone much bigger than size 16/18? I may be wrong though.

I think OP would me much better off looking into Ozempic or similar rather than surgery.

Slimming world works if you follow it as it says. Onc you start to see the losses it will inspire you to continue

Slimming World is ridiculous. A banana has the same calories whether it’s mashed or not, pasta has calories, you cannot eat as much as you like and expect to lose weight if you exceed the amount of calories that you need daily. There is no ‘free’ food and no food has ‘syns’. Stay in a calorie deficit and you’ll lose weight, it’s simple.

PencilsInSpace · 23/06/2023 00:13

😬

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 23/06/2023 00:22

DIETS WONT WORK, YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR MINDSET AND ATTITUDE TO FOOD.

Being overweight risks many health implications so please don’t resign yourself to thinking you can’t change. Only you have the power to be your best self, that best self being what YOU see as best, not what society wants.
