Is anyone else 'Fappy'?

Is anyone else the above ? Fat and happy? (Not my abbreviation i saw it online) I've tried it all - slimming world, weight watchers, Cambridge, intermittent fasting, keto, low carbs, gym 7 days a week etc etc and I never drop below 100kg (I'm 5'8") and I'm so miserable
My options are either accept it (I'm healthy just big- size 16/18) and move on or look at a gastric band/bypass etc etc.

Is anyone else 'Fappy'? Am I being ridiculous even considering doing that and accepting my size?

YABU get the bypass you'll never be happy
YANBU I'm Fappy and you can be too

@ShirleyPhallus

keto isn’t a fad diet
intermittent fasting isn’t a fad diet

They are based on sound scientific principles and show significant health benefits regardless of the actual weight loss.

They’re hard to do because of the world we live in but our body is designed to use both of those tools to survive.

keto - any diet which cuts out entire food groups is a fad diet IMO

intermittent fasting - ok that one isn’t a fad diet

Glad you're happy OP but wow what a title 🙊

I stopped dieting a few years ago. I concluded it wasn’t working because I kept getting heavier! I started following Rebelfit, where the guy who run it basically says be focusing on ‘losing weight’ you create stress which is counterproductive to weight loss! So I focused on eating as well as I could - batch cooking, just aiming to get up to 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, eating more protein and exercising. It took a long time to step away from the diet culture mindset. I started power lifting! I’m still obese.
But I’m much slimmer, more toned, far stronger! I’ve dropped a dress size. Last time I checked my weight I’d lost about 3 stone, but that’s not my focus.
So yes. You can be overweight and happy. I still try to keep improving.

Theos · 22/06/2023 21:17

You know to fap means to wank righty?

Merryoldgoat · 22/06/2023 21:20

@ShirleyPhallus

Ketosis is a natural process that we evolved to use in times of famine so that when glucose is scarce we can use ketones instead.

Keto diets do not say ‘no carbs at all’ - they are diets which are high in fat, moderate in protein and no starches or processed sugar.

You can still eat fruit, most vegetables, pulses in moderation and dairy. You just can’t gorge on it.

’sugar’ and ‘starch’ aren’t food groups and cutting them out is not at all bad for you.

Mylandra · 22/06/2023 21:21

God I really hope fappy doesn’t become a new thing. All I could think when I saw the title that it was going to be about fapping

NameNew · 22/06/2023 21:25

I'm fat. I'm happy generally but I'm not happy about my size. I'd never have weight loss surgery though. I've not voted as neither option applies.

(I'd never heard of fapping).

SquirrelSoShiny · 22/06/2023 21:29

This thread gave me a much needed laugh 😂

OP, do you think all the diets you’ve tried before don’t work because you feel genuinely hungry on them and cave? Have you ever tried focusing on high protein intake? It’s so filling and crave curbing, I’m a total convert now. Really easy to do

I've seen SO MANY - can I ask which regime/plan has worked for you??🙏🏻

I had to tell my sister that nonce was slang for paedophile the other day after she kept calling me and my mum one. Turns out she thought it was a joke term for someone who talked nonsense.

I didn't know this until this week!

MammaTo · 22/06/2023 21:40

I wish I could be flappy.

I honestly don’t remember a time I have been happy with me weight - even in junior school I felt like the biggest kid in the class. I look at photos from when I was 18 and felt HUGE but I was easily a size 10/12, I felt the same as I do now I’m a size 18. It’s just a vicious circle.

5128gap · 22/06/2023 21:43

Some people are of course. But I don't think its something you can force. You feel what you feel, and if you're happier slimmer then I doubt you'll suddenly do a u turn on that and love being heavier. You can tell yourself you're happy, you can take inspiration from larger women who are genuinely happy, you can ignore your weight and focus on other aspects of your life, but ultimately I doubt you'll ever reach the point where given a choice of size 10 or 18 you'd happily pick 18.

Just to let you know. Fap is slang for wanking..

Nope, also in England. Where I'm from. Thanks for the input though.

Brosbro · 22/06/2023 21:55

Wanking aside, I’m trying to be fat and happy! I have become so fat since having children but I came to the realisation that diets are probably to blame because I’d try to restrict or go on slimming world or weight watchers but always fail because I’d get bored or not have enough time or energy to follow the plan. Then when I fell off the wagon I’d go overboard.

I’ve started losing tiny amounts of weight like 0.5 pounds a week , since deciding to abandon dieting completely and just eat ‘normally’ I.e 3 meals a day and a couple of snacks, and trying to get a bit of exercise in.

Im so much happier mentally when I’m not on a stupid diet.

StarchySturgess1 · 22/06/2023 21:55

My happiness is not determined by my weight, or the size of my clothes, it never has been.

'Fap' is to wank, so I'm not going to use 'fappy' though, if that's alright.

Nothingbuttheglory · 22/06/2023 21:56

This reminds me of the time my mum asked me what "blow job" meant. I said I didn't know. (We were in our 60s and 30s respectively, at the time)

Anyway OP, sending positive vibes.

SnapPop · 22/06/2023 20:47

I thought a gastric band is aimed at someone much bigger than size 16/18? I may be wrong though.

An 18 will be morbidly obese at most heights so why wouldn't someone consider bariatric surgery?

Fap/fapping is British slang.

Keto is a fad diet. OK, nobody needs refined sugar and processed 'white' carbs in their diet. But wholegrain cereals, beans, fruit and 'starchy' vegetables like potatoes and carrots are good for you. Our bodies are adapted to get most of their energy from carbohydrates.

I do love this so much. I sort hate myself for this but I was much bigger and mow I'm a 14 to 16 and just on the edge of overweight and obese I do feel way better. I still listen to it on repeat though!
