Is anyone else 'Fappy'?

Is anyone else the above ? Fat and happy? (Not my abbreviation i saw it online) I've tried it all - slimming world, weight watchers, Cambridge, intermittent fasting, keto, low carbs, gym 7 days a week etc etc and I never drop below 100kg (I'm 5'8") and I'm so miserable
My options are either accept it (I'm healthy just big- size 16/18) and move on or look at a gastric band/bypass etc etc.

Is anyone else 'Fappy'? Am I being ridiculous even considering doing that and accepting my size?

YABU get the bypass you'll never be happy
YANBU I'm Fappy and you can be too

Respectfully OP, if diets are not working for you, there is one of two things happening:

You aren't sticking to it

Or

You aren't tracking your calories accurately and your body isn't in a calorie deficit hence never dropping below 100Kg.

Gastric Bypass seems an extreme option and frankly lazy, not to mention the risks.

Most of the diets you have listed are not sustainable long term, they're fads designed to make people money.

The best thing you can do is get an accurate picture of your bodies resting basal metabolic rate, factor in your activity levels and then adjust calorie intake to ensure your body is in a calorie deficit by 250-500 calories a day (0.5-1lb body fat) depending on how quick you want to drop the weight.

Ensuring you stay active and get 10000 steps a day will go a long way towards the above.

I considered bariatric surgery when I weighed myself in January this year, but decided to try and diet one more time, using intermittent fasting and eating very low carb (but not religiously so). I've lost 4 stone so far.

for me (and this is just my opinion), it really helped to come off sugar for a couple of days before I started fasting (I happen to like OMAD, eating once a day).

Good luck OP, whatever route you chose.

That’s a bmi of 36, not far off morbid obesity

No, it is a BMI of 34, which is closer to overweight category than morbidly obese.

Depends on your age and ethnicity. Split hairs all you want but it's still obese and likely to lead to health problems.

@Nothingbuttheglory Greg Davies covers this in one of his stand ups.Hilarious

Yes, which is why I am trying to lose weight. My BMI has been higher.

Nothingbuttheglory · 23/06/2023 18:54

@PrincessHoneysuckle does he? Maybe DM has seen it and was trolling me.

Have you done Slimpod?

No but I've seen it and it's relatively inexpensive so I was going to try it! Are you recommending it?

Just to add a few people have said you have tried lots of diets and haven't stuck to them so that's why you're failing. I have tried - hard! I've been 'big' forever from childhood upwards. I've been dieting on and off for 20 years. I stick to things sometimes for years and then the weight comes back and I start over eating and not bothering with diets anymore. It's a viscious cycle. I've tried hypnotherapy to try and get to the bottom of the reasons but I think I just have ADHD and like to eat a lot 🤷‍♀️

I used the NHS calculator.

SnapPop · 24/06/2023 05:36

I just put those numbers into the NHS calculator and got 34.

You have to commit to it and understand that unlike SW or WW etc you won't necessarily see a huge change immediately, although some people do.

It does work wonders on changing your relationship with food and with yourself. I would recommend it, it's actually very nuanced and liberating. There's a lot to take in, so it is spread over 12 weeks and the coaching is released week by week so you have time to absorb it and action it.

It isn't a passive programme, you do have to put some effort in and engage with it, but it isn't difficult. You don't have that awful self loathing / guilt / treat / failure thing that diet programs give you, because it isn't a diet.

Ok thank you worth considering. It does seem to be a mental issue for me rather than just lack of effort! Thanks

If it's a mental issue, Slimpod should work as it addresses your subconscious habits.
