Do some news items make you think that humanity is irredeemable? ***warning - upsetting subject, related to treatment of monkeys***

I heard the story on the news today about people paying to watch baby monkeys being tortured online.

It was so terrible, and makes me think that, as a species, we're fucked.

And, if enough people will make it financially viable to do that, I know what I think would be next (but I can't bring myself to type it.)

Sorry to those who think I'm overdoing it, but I find it incredibly upsetting.

If you go looking for the worst in people then you'll find it. But I think everyday acts of love and kindness exist in abundance and they quietly swamp the bad and unjust.

Our treatment of most animals is horrific. Humans use, abuse and exploit to suit themselves. No behaviour from humans shocks me anymore. 😔

Had to turn this report off on the tv and radio as it literally made me feel sick. One of my pupils raised it today in a lesson and I just couldn’t think of much to say to redeem humanity for them, except to say that there are many more people that find it reprehensible than acceptable, and that’s what we have to cling on to. Just god awful.

I usually think so, FourTeaFallOut. In fact, to survive, I think we have to believe that. But this story broke through that. It's just so many people.

There was and probably still is a group of like minded people who pay to watch women in high heels stamp on kittens until they die.

We are not talking about third world countries such as Nigeria where they believe in sacrificing birds to bring them good luck, this is people from the so called civilised world.

Then there is China who has Tiger farms. I've seen it all and I am quite a hard person but the sight of a skeletal tiger which has been deliberately and slowly starved to death is not easily forgotten.

Then there are the bears kept in absolute misery and pain for decades so their bile can be extracted.

Bullfighting.

And of course the hideous world of Greyhound racing.

Of course there are many more atrocities to all kinds of animals around the world. The one in the U.K. that I found behind despicable was the throwing of the loving and trusting bulldog repeatedly down the stairs whilst the two brothers filmed it and laughed.

I’ve seen some truly terrible videos (was actually part of a lesson in college) so the depravity of humans really does know no bounds.

But on the other side, some humans can be absolutely lovely. If you only look for horrible stories, you will only see the horrible things.

As a species I think we're reprehensible.
On an individual level I am inspired and appalled in turns, but in my life directly, mostly inspired.

This way truly shocking though and I hope the courageous people who investigated it are ok, because living with that in your mind during an investigation (and beyond) must be traumatic.

I’m not an animal lover at all really but that article about those monkeys made me cry. I actually cried at the new picture of mini (was that her name) at the end showing her looking more healthy at the rescue centre.

There is something very wrong and sick about people who can get enjoyment out of watching that sort of material!!!

Humans as a species are utterly vile. Individually made in the image of God, collectively made in the image of Satan, though fewer and fewer individuals are decent people these days. There are so, so many examples of utter unnecessary cruelty towards animals and other humans, usually driven by stupidity (I include religious belief here) and/or money. The sooner another, proper pandemic comes along and wipes the lot of us out the better.

I’ve scrolled straight to the end of the post to say yes, don’t need to know more details. I switched the radio off today, can’t remember ever doing that.
