Once you have kids, there's not such a thing as "his money". It all becomes "family money".

Fair enough to pay for the odd small treats occasionally, but you can't live as if you are free and single once you decided to have children.

I have a colleague who was in the same boat. She kicked him and his Xbox out. She and her child have both had a better life since she lost the 70kg of dead weight.
Like a few posters have said, she did not realise just how much family money was disappearing until she went back through the cc statements.

It doesn’t really matter how much does it? It’s over 3K and that is clearly an extortionate amount for their finances. If it’s causing problems (which it clearly is as OP seems to only have spare money for the odd soft play) then OP has every right to be angry.

My guess is £6K, cos 500ish a month would be very very easy to do on those games. Easily spend £10-£20 per night on buying addons.

A friend's son spent £1K in less than a month before she noticed (she didn't check her banking app very often, she now checks every day and the linked card is unlinked!)

It's not instant LTB territory for me but it's definitely hard talk/ultimatum time and possibly referral to GA or other support/therapy for addiction.

I was going to say £300 on stupid ingame tokens or whatever - and I thought that was unreasonable! over 3k is IMO the equivalent of a gambling addiction and you need to get rid of him before he drags both of you down into debt.

So sorry; what a difficult and stressful situation to be in.

If your partner is addicted to the games that he is playing; then it may be worth speaking with GamCare https://www.gamcare.org.uk/

He could benefit hugely from being able to recognise and manage addictive behaviours . Whether or not your relationship can survive in the longer term may be another matter. You have experienced a big shock, with loss of trust.

It doesn't matter the actual figure he spent - these threads are t just entertainment for the masses .

The fact is he clearly spent more than is reasonable when he has a family that should take priority.

That's why the op is upset - it's relative . If he was a millionaire and spent all his disposable income or if he's on UC and did the same the figure is irrelevant.

Have you seen any statements? Its highly dubious he's spent such a large amount just on the xbox.

You can look at it in different ways.
some men drink to let loose, some gamble,
some men play games. Clearly he’s not a happy guy if he’s wanting to bury his head in games and spend a small fortune on it.
on a positive note it’s not harmful to his physical health and you don’t have to worry about him dying on a night out.
i think compromise needs to be made here and he needs to find a way to get out of his addiction. have you talked to him about this much and what is his response?
