...On his fucking Xbox in the past year. I'm furious. Absolutely furious.

Why did he feel the need to conceal the costs? That’s what worries me the most in all honesty. X-box /gaming can be a valid hobby that costs some amount of money, but in a good relationship both partners would know how much is being spent and have agreed on a budget for it.

If it was £500 that's more than they can afford on their income and she;s said it's in the thousands.

So what more do we need to know?

I don’t think it is about the money per se, but about the lack of transparency and the fact you mention your relatively low salary and soft play as a treat. My DH has come home before with new vehicles that I thought he was test driving, when he had bought them, but we have a good salary and individual accounts. When we had little spare money and I was working part time we had Excel sheets with our expenditure.

His take home pay is £2k a month. He’s spent more than £3k on X box but we don’t know how much more than 3k.

She has said:

• He earns £2k a month
• She earns £850 a month
• He has spent more than £3k on the x-box over the year.

So that's more than a month of both their earnings.

To be honest it sounds like he has a addiction to gaming. Take out the finance from the equation for a second, how else does his gaming impact on family life? How much of the day excluding work does he spend gaming?

Honestly, this would be a deal breaker for me unless he gets serious help for his gaming addiction.

Oof. I love the xbox, it's my husband's main hobby and he quite possibly has spent a considerable amount of money over the last year or so (though probably not as much as I've spent on yarn 😬)

But we've got reasonable disposable income and generally he runs by me whether there's any other priorities he's not aware of this month before he goes spanking his money (as do I).

I imagine it's not about the Xbox, or the actual amount of money, it's about him prioritising his own wants at the expense of the rest of the family.

Yes he brings in £2k a month, but she responded more when someone guessed £3k so we know it’s at least more than £3k.

I'd be furious when your household has such small income and hes spending that much on a game for himself. You could have one or two family holidays for that.
