I've been on Mumsnet for around 10 years now, I have read some crazy threads.

I'm lying in bed hungover and looking for some stories to brighten up my shameful Saturday afternoon.

If anyone wants to share it would be greatly appreciated Grin

OP posts:

The one where the OP was a landlord and having some kind of issue with tenants and people suggested that she gift the house to the tenants

Snap.

Was that the one where the renters made out they owned the house, the man had told his wife that they owned it. and she didn't believe the landlord when she said it actually belonged to her.

The holiday house in Mexico that the neighbours made a copy of the key when they were allowed to use it one time and had been going out on holiday without permission.

Er, well, you were laughing at my "artisenal" (sic) slippers and how much the idea amused you, so it's really not that I took it any way, it's about what you objectively said. You can laugh if you want, just please don't try to blame me for it. Own it.

But don't worry, I don’t actually give a shit. I was called a "fucking weirdo" on the thread for doing it (was that you?) so I do realise not everyone likes the idea. I got it from a Muslim friend who has a shoeless house and has a basket of guest slippers. Stopped my feet from getting cold at her place, plus I don't really like being barefoot.

But they really aren't very artisanal. Don't know where you got that from. Maybe someone asked what they looked like.

Glad you've realised I wasn't talking about you, and no I didn't go from saying I found something amusing to calling you (or anyone) a fucking weirdo. 🙄

If the poster who started that thread over a decade ago is reading this, I'm so sorry for saying it amused me. Obviously it could somehow be construed as offensive.

Lacucuracha · 17/06/2023 19:38

Is it a coincidence that most of these are from 2018? 🤣 Was that the year of a bumper crop?

Doris86 · 17/06/2023 19:40

The one where the OP was reluctant to engage in polite casual chit chat with Dads on the school run, in case people got the wrong idea and thought they were shagging.

itsgettingweird · 17/06/2023 19:40

Yep - super soakers for me!!!

Closely followed by the woman who's toddler fell over in a chain restaurant/pub type place and cut their head open on a coffee table. She was absolutely convinced having a table to out drinks on in a place designed to sit and drink was health and safety failure and she could sue

MagentaRocks · 17/06/2023 19:40

The op that kept mentioning TONGA and wrote it in capitals each time. I think it was something to do with a book that she didn't know the title of but I might be mixing it up with something else. I seem to remember something about a princess

TheHandbag · 17/06/2023 19:41

The one where the OP went to the sistine chapel I think where she cried and shrieked uncontrollably. I can't remember if it was made up or not but it was funny. Loads of posters we're taking the piss out of her.

The woman who wanted to let her son bring his super soakers to someone else's party in the park. The mother of birthday child had said no and she still wanted to bring them.

This was my favourite too! It was so brilliantly bonkers 😂

It was definitely made up but a good example of why some made up threads should not be deleted!

Doing T-Rex in Asda. I discovered that old thread recently and lay in bed genuinely loling. 😂

All the competitve hygiene ones are ridiculous, as are the class marker ones. Literally just got here from yet another post where someone says that their duchess relative says X is lower class, although she hasn't said why anyone should give a toss. The class obsession on here is insane.

You'll often hear about the "give them the house" thread where someone inherited a house with sitting tenants and didn't know what to do. That one was disappointing when I found it. Nobody had seriously suggested giving them the house, someone said it sarcastically in response to a particular post.

There also appear to be a number of things that many MNers declare themselves incapable of understanding, that have always baffled them. Off the top of my head, the things they can't understand includes hot chocolate, Christmas pyjamas, carpets, designer handbags, toilet seats, fruit bowls, cake smash photo shoots and wedding dresses.

Also people living in /buying New Builds Mumsnet hates them!

There was a thread on here the other day when someone was bemoaning british teen style, especially in comparison to elegant European teenagers...how dare teenagers dress in their own style, they should all be running around in stripy tops and ballet flats, bonkers!

The one where the woman was aghast that her husband came in from outside and lay on their bed covers without taking off his clothes - clothes that had been outside and must have been seething with germs!

that was a massive eye opener for me. Some people are insane.

She sounds like my dad. 'Get off my bed with your outdoor clothes on' was a phrase I remember from childhood.

BlinkeredBay · 17/06/2023 19:48

CoreyTaylorsSoggyTshirt · 17/06/2023 16:09

There was one some years back where the op saw a lady with a crying baby in the supermarket, offered to carry the baby while the mum shopped, the mum declined, and then her mum appeared and they sorted the baby/shopping between them.

Op then stalked them around the supermarket, gossiped about them with staff, and then started a thread.

The posters all whipped themselves and op up into a frenzy and decided this woman had PND and op should go to the supermarket, get the CCTV footage, get the numberplate of the car, find out who this woman was and where she lived, then report her to SS because she may have PND and harm the baby - because she didn't want a stranger carrying her newborn around the supermarket.

It was wild.

Another of the weirdest ones I've read is in classics I think, I'll try and find it.

Jesus! I wish I’d seen that one! But poor mother of that baby!

Lwrenagain · 17/06/2023 18:03

Not threads because I can't remember them but 2 of my fave comments have been -

A poster was dumped for ordering anchovies on her pizza and someone suggested she reply with, "plenty more anchovies in the sea"

And cannae remember the thread but a poster said something like "men literally shag piles of leafs" and it killed me because I've seen more than one bloke humping leaf piles at a place I worked 😂

It's an honour to be remembered for such a classy comment.

Grumpigal · 17/06/2023 19:53

a very old thread about what did people consider “stylish and elegant”.

The OP insisted all of her friends and gay men told her she was the epitome of style and elegance.

I swear at one point the OP describes herself in some sort of boating outfit. Absolute madness

Rubycoola · 17/06/2023 19:56

I haven't read everything on this thread so apologies if it's been mentioned but the one where a co worker punched cakes in a staff room, then denied it despite sitting with cakey hands. Put a fork.in a wall and drew on a cook book I think it was.

It made my husband and I laugh so much but I've never been able to find it since! Think it was 2019/2020. Maybe 2021.

ItsNotRocketSalad · 17/06/2023 19:57

Most of the "classics" that always pop up in these threads are probably made up.

Of the ones that were probably real... I remember one where the OP was moaning her FIL hadn't offered her any champagne. As the posts continued it turned out she'd gatecrashed a party and was very offended not to be welcomed with open arms. She couldn't understand what was wrong.

Not sure if it was a different poster or also part of that story, but one where the OP's brother had requested she keep her new boyfriend and his kids away from a family event because the brother wanted to propose to his girlfriend, and wanted it to be just family. The OP ignored him, gatecrashed, and now was whinging that her boyfriend's children wouldn't be included in the wedding. Again, she couldn't understand what she'd done wrong.

It's fascinating getting an insight into the minds of people so self-centred and unaware.
