To tell those who lecture me on vaping to Fuck Off

I'm in my 50s and was a long term smoker. I switched to vaping in January. I am considerate and only vape outdoors and move away from other people or into a smoking area. People sometimes
comment, there's a brief convo around my giving up smoking, and 9 out of 10 respond nicely in a 'well done you' kind of way.

The 1 out of 10 though start lecturing me on the evils of vaping. These can be complete strangers, or acquaintances. They go on and on.
Usual themes:

1. Just as bad for you or worse for you than smoking.
2. Children are vaping.
3. Environmental impact of disposables.

I respond politely. I acknowledge there is a concern around all of this, and
1 - I know they aren't exactly good for me but I think they are not as bad as cigarettes, and it's my intension to also stop vaping this year
2 - I agree the manufacturer's should stop targeting non-smokers with the sweet flavours
3 - I agree, I use a rechargeable, but there's probably a lot more all of us could be doing for the environment.

But they do not let it drop. I've literally been lectured at on and on.

YANBU to stop being polite after my initial response and tell them that if I stopped vaping today, I'd be back on the fags tomorrow so mind their own fucking business?

Resurrecting this thread! I was bullied on this thread a couple of years ago for having an opinion on vaping. So much evidence has come to light over the last couple of years in the health risks to vaping. Another study is concluding shortly that once again proves how bad vaping is to health (as I said at the time) - I would just like to share this with those who told me I had health anxiety and paranoia for worrying about how much other people's vaping affects my asthma. Vaping is very much indeed DANGEROUS!

Secondly, study hadn’t concluded yet. Let’s wait until it gets reviewed and published, yes?

Thirdly, the article says fuck all about ‘passive’ vaping which is what you were complaining about.

Fourthly, I was a bit at them raising Paul Danan. I cannot see any article anywhere saying it was actually vaping that caused his death - let alone that his collapse was definitely because of vaping and not simply ‘linked’ to it.

My point was that vaping (and smoking) is extremely dangerous - as it is being proved more and more not just by this 1 study (that will conclude next month)
I am interested to know what you think about this article - maybe read it properly whilst you inhale your poison

No issue with vaping as long as I’m not walking behind a vaper in their cloud of smoke or sitting near one in a beer garden etc

I've also been bullied on Mumsnet for expressing an opinion that vaping is harmful and for simply posting that I had been subjected to it in various places it wasn't allowed and that it was unpleasant to have to be subjected to it.

I was told by numerous posters that is was just steam. I posted a list of ingredients but no apparently it was just steam and it was fine for them to be rude and ignore facts whilst being sneery.

They know they're wrong, they're just so addicted that they can't admit it. Vaping has given nicotine addicts the chance to massively indulge their habit despite the smoking ban amd addicts are rarely reasonable when they feel their fix is threatened.

Vaping is fucking disgusting and I don't care if anyone disagrees. I don't want to walk through a cloud of your sickening strawberry-scented breath, I can't imagine how anyone would think that breathing chemicals is much better than smoking.

Nicotine is the addictive part of smoking. Those who acknowledge they have an addiction use patches, gum, or low nicotine cigarettes to slowly lower their usage. Others just switch to vaping because "it doesn't hurt anyone".

I wish people would not overuse the term ‘bullied’.

You weren't bullied at all, you just took offence whenever someone suggested it was highly unlikely to be a vape setting your asthma off.

Im not surprised that these posters have used this term, considering the rest of their views are posted using such hysterical and over the top language. I would hate to meet this people in real life. I prefer to speak with people who understand nuance and can think critically

I gave up smoking decades ago. I've never vaped. Two of my friends smoke and one vapes. Couldn't give a damn. Can't stand the smell of smoking these days but I put up with it because they're worth it. The vaping doesn't bother me at all. I'm not exposed to it enough for me to have real health concerns about any of it.

I never lecture any of my friends in their habit, even though I worry about the impact on their health (and wallet). It may have been a long time ago but I remember very well that the first thing that I wanted to do whenever anyone lectured me on smoking was light one up! I'm not going to pretend smoking/vaping is harmless either but unless I'm asked for an opinion on what is essentially an addiction and nowhere near as simple as 'just quit', I don't offer one. The only thing I'm entitled to do is put my own boundaries in place (eg don't smoke in my home).

Like alcohol, which is far more dangerous not just to the drinker (in excess) but to others too, vaping and the purchase and use of is perfectly legal.

Until it is banned along with alcohol and cigarettes, then I'll take note. For now none of us has the power to stop anyone drinking, smoking or vaping. So the vibrant anti vapers need to calm down a bit.
