Anyone seen the No Hard Feelings trailers? I feel like I’ve been vaulted back to 1993. So so bad.

OP posts:
MoggyMittens23 · 16/06/2023 16:45

I love films like this, I am looking forward to seeing it. They don't make them like they used to! That said, I am not a fan of JL. But, I will watch it anyway

44PumpLane · 16/06/2023 17:24

Just watched the trailer....looks fun!

QuintanaRoo · 16/06/2023 17:32

Sorry, not sure what you mean. Do you think it looks like a rubbish movie or is it the theme of the movie you think is a bit odd?

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 16/06/2023 17:35

I imagine she was thinking "this'll pay for my new extension"

But I've just looked at the trailer and can't see the issue personally.

dudsville · 16/06/2023 17:45

Just watched the trailer. What a shame, I love JL in everything I've seen of her but this does not appeal in the slightest.

Thisisabsolutelyfine · 16/06/2023 17:52

OP thought exactly the same!

Toottooot · 16/06/2023 17:52

Yaaaasss min - here’s a multi million dollar pay cheque - probably.

LizzieSiddal · 16/06/2023 17:54

What’s the film about?

Bingoballs · 16/06/2023 17:54

It appeals to my younger self.
I imagine it will appeal to teens and young adults just like legally blonde, 10 things I hate about you, how to lose a guy in 10 days etc etc when I was that age.
Jessica Lawrence is a great actress, I'm going to watch it before I judge the movie.
Maybe she just wanted something less serious and better for her work/life balance to do this movie.

What’s the film about?

Parents of a boy about to go college employ Jennifer Lawrence to bring their son out of his shell and make him a man before he leaves home.

QuintanaRoo · 16/06/2023 18:03

Jennifer has given an interview saying what she was thinking….apparently she thought it was hilarious;

It didn’t take long for Stupnitsky to share the concept with his long-time friend Lawrence, who was immediately hooked: "Gene read the Craigslist ad to me, and I died laughing," she told the same outlet.

"I thought it was hilarious, but there wasn't a script or anything. I just thought he had a funny idea. And then a couple years later, he handed me the funniest script I've ever read in my life."
According to the film’s official synopsis (and its red band trailer), unlocking Percy’s libido — and saving herself from bankruptcy — proves trickier than first expected for Maddie.
“Awkward Percy proves to be more of a challenge than she expected, and time is running out. She has one summer to make him a man or lose it all.”

Jennifer Lawrence recalls private plane emergency landing in 2017: 'We were all just going to die'

“My skeleton was all that was left in the seat,” Lawrence said. “We were all just going to die. I started leaving little mental voicemails to my family, you know, ‘I’ve had a great life, I’m sorry.’”

It does sound more than a bit yuck. Read an article saying Jennifer asks if the parents want her to date their son, or date their son. With the answer being date. So she’s basically a paid prostitute pretending to be his girlfriend. And then there’s the issue of what’s wrong with being an introvert?

imagine if it was a female 18yo who’s parents were paying an older man to shag their daughter while pretending to be in a relationship with her?

im sure there is a vague happy ending with them falling in love, etc but the premise of it isn’t great.

GeraltsBathtub · 16/06/2023 18:08

Haha, I haven’t seen the trailer but I did see the poster on a bus and thought the same thing!

lljkk · 16/06/2023 18:09

I get it, but then I have an over-sheltered nephew who has gone to Princeton...

It's a film, not a bloody self help guide. Pretty Woman is a great film but not a great life plan.

cantcopenow · 16/06/2023 18:17

I went and watched it just now.

I'm speechless.

It's somehow meant to be funny that a (young) man feels threatened by a woman's come-on when she's driving the car, so threatened that he maces her?
Because women aren't scary at all, right? And there must be something wrong with a boy who doesn't want to fuck JL.

I just... I mean... it's 2023.

whatcanidotobelieve · 16/06/2023 18:19

Maybe she is trying to get on any movie? Isn't she having trouble getting decent scripts etc since Harvey Weinstein got #metooed and couldn't back her anymore? Or so I read...

LizzieSiddal · 16/06/2023 18:20

@cantcopenow that sounds dreadful and the opposite of funny.

RegainingTheWill2023 · 16/06/2023 18:21

I've just watched it and equally speechless.
Utter disbelief that anyone thinks it's an OK plot line. WTF?

OooPourUsACupLove · 16/06/2023 18:21

Hey I like Legally Blonde! /misses point of thread

lljkk · 16/06/2023 18:24

It's fluff. I don't think it aspires to be more sophisticated than that.
There are lots of movies I don't watch, just put it in that category if you don't like this.

cantstaymadatyou · 16/06/2023 18:30

If you thought the movie Failure to Launch was too high brow and sophisticated for your tastes, well they’ve remade it but even dumber.

This is exactly it! That style of film is in its nostalgia period so they’re trying to capitalise off it - smart really.

not everything is for everyone.

Given the way society is influenced and/or reflected by popular culture, it does seem a bit retrograde.

Spareus · 16/06/2023 18:44

Trailer is cringe. Really dreadful.
