I like Legally Blonde and Jennifer Lawrence.

it's a shame if she can't get parts in good films anymore.

Just watched the trailer and I'm cringing for JL. Is she really that desperate? Or does she think she's untouchable and can make any shit she wants , she'll always be popular?

Legally blonde is like the polar opposite though, could be said to be quite empowering? Dumb blonde isn’t actually a dumb blonde?

It's got nothing to do with sophistication or whether it's high or low brow.
It's the grotesque premise of a 32 year old sexually pursuing 19 year old for money.
Finding someone being subjected to unwanted sexual harassment funny is beyond my comprehension.

I think someone in the Youtube comments has it, he's gay and she helps him come out to his parents.

So that would make the actions of the parents and the JL character ok ....??

Pretty Woman was also over 30 years ago. Not sure they’d make a lighthearted fluff film about a man buying a prostitute these days……or maybe they would. 🤷‍♀️. But it wouldn’t be great.

No its cringy AF but I think its how the producers would justify it to themselves. Maybe even giving themselves a pat on the back for being progressive :)

She’s made some terrible films - Red Sparrow was one.

I’m guessing they have run out of ideas, Marvel films have run their course and they can’t find a classic film to remake/ruin.

She's got to pay the bills. Oscar winners appear in Marvel films these days as the money is so good.
Is this her first movie since having a baby? She was often associated with Weinstein during her rise - I hope that this isn't why she's not getting decent roles any more.

It does seem like the kind of thing that would have been popular around the turn of the century. I'm surprised they're reprising it. I thought we'd progressed from movies basically about women being good for being used for sex and not much else.

Your comment is irrelevant to the discussion about a lighthearted comedy.
In this trailer, the main protagonist is a character who clearly we're supposed to like, not fear. The humour is supposed to arise from the disparity between the paid harrasser and the young non-consenting individual. The humour glosses over the underlying gross premise of paying someone to pursue someone much younger sexually.

I thought it looked funny, I wouldn't rush to watch it at the cinema, but would happily watch it on prime or whatever. But then I'm generation X-er who doesn't overthink pop culture.

The posters alone put me off.
