I don't get it. Both are charlatans but seem to have a core fan base.

If you're one, can you say why and do you believe they tell the truth?

Also why the sneer about 'Home Bargains'? Couldn't you have said 'there's jumbo bottles in Tesco'. Do you look down your nose at Bargain shops, hmm?

I didn't see any arses been handed? Rather a lot of wittering on without any actual explanation or defence of said highly critical tweets.

As an aside obviously shops at the same necklace shop as Theresa. What is is with these greet mahoosive contraptions round their necks.

Right back at you.

Show me the dead bodies.

One of us has researched, the other has read the BBC.

I love how low-information voters have always 'researched', i.e. fallen down a youtube, Fox, OANN disinformation hole.

That's your answer, OP, unfortunately. Simple as that.

Trump -like him or hate him is one of the few politicians who has the courage to say what he really thinks . Corbin in the same

@Glowie

Steps toward peace: Relations with NK and Saudis were improved under Trump, and he got Russia to stop invading Ukraine for 4 years.

North Korea: he only elevated the position of KJU to his own people by having an American President openly coo over him and bend to his demands. He never stopped firing missiles and relations between the US/North Korea/South Korea did not improve by any measure.

Saudis: Vast amounts of money - oil and blood money - were involved here. You can expect a good deal went into Trump's coffers and those of Kushner. If you think relations improved, ask yourself how.

Russia/Ukraine: Please look this up. This is laughable. Apart from Russia and Ukraine having such an extensive history, do you not remember the reason Trump was impeached? Remember an incident with Ukraine's US ambassador to Ukraine? The idea that Trump held off a Russia/Ukraine war, or could stop it now within days, should be put to bed now.

North Korea: he only elevated the position of KJU to his own people by having an American President openly coo over him and bend to his demands. He never stopped firing missiles and relations between the US/North Korea/South Korea did not improve by any measure.

And inasmuch as there was any degree of improvement at all, it was largely engineered by South Korea's president.

My step mums boyfriend thinks he's like Churchill but honestly he is a dick. And my step mum is lovely but an avid Daily Fail reader so not the brightest.

We live in France so have a slightly different view. DH thinks Trump played a blinder. Doesn't like his politics though.

Wallaw · 15/07/2023 16:32

@LoonyLois

Trump is passionate about his country, you can’t deny that.

Out of curiosity, in what ways do you see this? To my mind, if you're passionate about your country you don't encourage the overthrow of its electoral system.

@StefanosHill
are you in the US, do you think Trump will win next time?

It's worth reiterating that Trump did not actually win the popular vote in 2016, more people voted for Hilary Clinton, but the US system is set up in a way that doesn't necessarily reflect the popular vote. He seems to consistently maintain about 30% of the electorate, but with low voter turnout and engagement, voter suppression, and picking up some independents, it's very possible this is enough for a win. There is some question as to whether or not the support of this 30% is elastic enough to absorb the constant stream of criminal indictments and the information that comes out of them.

Florenz · 15/07/2023 16:56

US elections have never been decided on the popular vote, and Hillary Clinton knew this. If they were decided on the popular vote, politicians could lose in 45 states, win in 5, and win the Presidency, and the United States very soon wouldn't united anymore.

The left seem to have the same problem here. There's no point piling up votes in cities where you already win if you can't get voters in the "Red Wall" towns to vote for you.

Florenz · 15/07/2023 16:57

Actually, if the presidency was decided on a popular vote, you could lose in 49 states and still win. Or even lose in all 50 states and still win. It wouldn't make any sense.

Yeah, not commenting on it, just pointing out to someone asking if Trump will win that it's not as simple as winning the popular vote. What do you mean, 'Hilary Clinton knew this'? Every American over 10 knows this and she did not, to the best of my recollection, make recorded phone calls telling people to change the result.

Red wall not exactly certain these days.

I get there’s different systems but when I’m asking if he’ll win I mean the system that results in him being President

I was just trying to point out that it's much more complicated than x number of supporters vs x number of supporters.

I think if anyone could give you an answer to that question they'd be the most sought after pollster/political prognosticator in America, and likely not posting on Mumsnet on a Saturday afternoon 😀

Sarah Longwell is a strategist who does lots of focus groups, she's an interesting person to follow (her answer so far has been that she doesn't know). Previously, she had said the statistics seemed to lean towards Biden beating Trump but losing to almost any other Republican nominee. I don't know whether she still holds that opinion or not.

Although we do all pick up different outlets and I’m in the U.K. whereas US may have more commentary

All I’ve heard is Biden small lead but not known, but I haven’t heard that much on it recently

But at least they both know what a woman is and for.

Well they certainly think they know what a woman is for🤣

No sneering from me. CoL crisis and all that, we all need to tighten our belts. Apart from the Tories who probably have to let theirs out a few notches as they scoff the little that is left in the trough before they are booted out of office.

It says his wife was at work? not getting chemo. And no, that is not ok but as we know many people have affairs <and worse> but this 'he was fucking others whilst his wife had chemo' that a pp spouted is just not true. They were separated.

Well thanks to The Evil Tories we had a 10% raise in all benefits and also we had those nasty cost of living payments. Even 2 lots of £150 for PIP claimants and PIP isn't even means tested. I mean, God there was Truss implementing the energy price cap so folk could heat their homes last winter. Bastards.

Yes and again they gave lots of handouts and raised benefits 10%. This is a good thing, yes?
Energy price cap remember?

IClaudine · 15/07/2023 18:09

10% of not very much is not very much. Benefits were too low in the first place and were frozen for five years up until 2020. So in real terms benefits have fallen during the past 13 years, despite the 10% increase.

PIP and its precursor DLA were never means tested. They are meant to meet the extra costs disabled people face. The extra payments were welcome, but hardly put a dent in many disabled people's fuel and food bills.
