To think she made the coffee too hot on purpose?

Just need some perspective as I nearly complained but then didn't want to be "that person" especially in front of my son. I've just been on a long walk with dogs and son, all lovely and we ended up in a little coffee shop that also sells plants and groceries.

I've been in once before and whenever I go, the lady that works there ways seems to look me up and down in a judgemental way. I thought I was imagining it so went again today.

I ordered a cappacino for me and lemonade for my son. We got the lemmondae instantly but then I had to wait about 10 to 15 minutes for my coffee. She literally served everyone else before me (even the people that came afterwards). My son had finished his lemondade. When I finally received my coffee it was scalding hot and I burned my tongue. I had to wait another 10 minutes for it to cool down. AIBU to think she has something against me for no reason? I've never been rude to her and don't know her. Or am I being paranoid?

Or maybe uk service has a lot to learn.
Loads of places are busy because there’s little choice in some areas and crap food/service is what we expect.
If you live somewhere with choice or just better service you get it.
I’ve been to plenty of cafes ( usually garden centres because my mum needs a sit down) where the food and drink are appalling, Stale cake, cream with scones that tastes a bit of fir fridge burnt, overly expensive cold coffee. Served by people that give no shits.

To be fair, if I want decent coffee and cake I go somewhere where that is their priority. To follow through I wouldn’t buy plants from a cafe because they wouldn’t be their priority.

I must remember never to order coffee from someone that looks you up and down in a judgemental way.
😉😁😁

I've been in once before

And

Whenever I go?

ilovesooty · 12/06/2023 10:39

Sorry I see you clarified that.

Rollonannualeave · 12/06/2023 11:38

Back of throat still hurting. Can only conclude she nuked it in the microwave. Still can't drink hot drinks. I'm livid today to be honest!

Avoid her establishment. Customers should be served in the correct order.

Cam22 · 12/06/2023 12:53

She’s probably resentful that she has to serve the public. I wonder why people like work in a public-facing role? Weirdos.

Cam22 · 12/06/2023 12:53

*like that work

Rollonannualeave · 12/06/2023 14:10

@Cam22 i thibk you are right.

@Rollonannualeave how are you today? I see you said about still being sore.
Please tell me you have contacted the establishment now as it is not acceptable.
Thinking of you.

Gee I don't know, maybe she needs the money? Maybe she took whichever job was available to be able to support a family? None of us know enough to judge.

If you filter the OPs updates you’ll see that was fine yesterday!

Innachu · 12/06/2023 17:58

She probably forgot it at first and then rushed it

She should buck up then and do a proper job. That does not include being rude to customers. Obviously.🙄

Rollonannualeave · 12/06/2023 18:22

This was all I got from the establishment

"Ok I'll look in to the matter , thank you for the feed back , again our apologies"

Nothing since.

If it was that hot the milk would have been scalded and undrinkable, which doesn’t seem to be the case?.

It was pretty watery to be honest. Perhaps not enough milk in it. I know I am overthinking this but the whole experience was just shit and my tongue is still scalded from that first sip.

As a barista, sounds like she made it, forgot to give it to you, and rather than make you a new one, she added hot water to it which is how it was watery and hotter than expected without burning the milk.

Between her thighs? 😮 What part of her body was she planning to drink it with?

She was getting into her car, held the cup between her thighs as she settled into the driver's seat. I do it all the time.

Possibly worth a follow up message or call to the place to let them know you are still sore today.
@Billyho I don't know how to do that on the app.

Readyplayerthr33 · 12/06/2023 18:40

I was in your side OP, but you’re gilding the lily a bit now. Just have a cup of tea. You really cannot have that bad an injury.

What do you actually expect them to do?

I’m pleased that not everyone here thinks coffee should be scalding hot. The fact that so many do explains why it is so hard to get a decent cup of coffee.

vote with your feet OP and find somewhere nicer.

Agree...

If it was tea, then yes you would expect it to be scalding as the water has to be boiled.

If coffee is made with boiling water, it will cause a loss of quality and taste acidic.

SylvieB74 · 12/06/2023 18:51

I’ve had this a couple of times. About 8 years ago a first visit to a hairdresser and she hacked my hair into an absolute mess, when a couple of other ones were sorting it out the following year they couldn’t really work it out, said it can’t have been accidental basically. And then about a year ago a miserable old bitch on the pizza counter in asda glaring at me it was unbelievable, she wasn’t even going to serve me until someone told her to, then the pizza wasn’t cooked I had a look before I went to pay and she’d just sort of not even half cooked it.
People can just be odd at times I suppose for all sorts of reasons, it’s her problem not yours if she likes to go to bed at night thinking she’s been an absolute bitch to a stranger for no reason, she’s not happy is she. But don’t you loose any sleep over it.

Isinglass20 · 12/06/2023 18:55

Next time stir with the wooden spatula and taste to see how hot. Surely the cup must have felt hot and smile at the barista.

Gingernan · 12/06/2023 18:55

Isn't coffee that you get in coffee shops always ultra hot? And usually at least 4 times the volume that you actually want?
