To think she made the coffee too hot on purpose?

Just need some perspective as I nearly complained but then didn't want to be "that person" especially in front of my son. I've just been on a long walk with dogs and son, all lovely and we ended up in a little coffee shop that also sells plants and groceries.

I've been in once before and whenever I go, the lady that works there ways seems to look me up and down in a judgemental way. I thought I was imagining it so went again today.

I ordered a cappacino for me and lemonade for my son. We got the lemmondae instantly but then I had to wait about 10 to 15 minutes for my coffee. She literally served everyone else before me (even the people that came afterwards). My son had finished his lemondade. When I finally received my coffee it was scalding hot and I burned my tongue. I had to wait another 10 minutes for it to cool down. AIBU to think she has something against me for no reason? I've never been rude to her and don't know her. Or am I being paranoid?

I find most cafes are incompetent at making cappuccinos and lattes and they're served hot all the time. Gets my goat. They are not supposed to be hot, they are supposed to be cool enough to drink immediately. She was probably just clueless.

sunglassesonthetable · 11/06/2023 19:22

Hot drink is hot.

Nope it isn't.

Citrines · 11/06/2023 19:22

I was livid when DS' Ice lolly gave him brain freeze. Sainsbury's must have it in for him. The freezer was too freezing.

I'd say they do. Tweet them. You won't sound like an idiot.

Citrines · 11/06/2023 19:24

Their water is too watery as well.

Somebody clever explain this part of the sentence to me please.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 11/06/2023 19:30

I don't understand the bitchy responses on here.

Clearly you got a vibe and generally I think git instincts are correct.
It was weird to serve everyone before you, to dump it carelessly and probably had been switched from a lava got cup to a cold one to throw you off.

Either go back and see one last time what it's like or just don't go back, don't give them your money.

ladydimitrescu · 11/06/2023 19:44

Shaky?? Really??

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 11/06/2023 19:46

If people feel intimidated they can be shaky. Seriously why are folk being mean?!

I questioned this… because I like you was confused!

Apparently, once for coffee and other times for dog food, so the barista is clearly multi tasking, which leads me to believe that it’s not the highest quality coffee shop on the land…

Oh dear god, now you’re adding switched cups into the mix…..

Evil barista !

Because it’s totally ridiculous as 86% of people agree?

isthismylifenow · 11/06/2023 19:08

😂 got to agree. A toastie with tomato lawsuit could be in the news soon.

Especially if it has pickle in it. Molten lava has nothing on a bit of branston that has been superheated in a toastie.

Casilero · 11/06/2023 20:01

I'm really surprised at all these posts thinking it inconceivable to deliberately make a hot coffee out of spite. Not saying that's what happened, but I know from occasionally screwing up my own coffee at home, it's certainly possible. Yes, the coffee is a set temperature, but you can quite easily either overheat the milk, or reheat the coffee in a microwave to reach lava temperatures. She probably is just a terrible barrista, but it's also possible she's a spiteful twat. Some people just are?

Also, the amount of people making fun about "coffee being hot" and the McDonald's case without actually understanding more than the tabloid reporting in the McDonald's case. Please don't any of you people ever open a coffee shop. Or a shop selling apple pies. You'll be terrible at it.

I think what we’re saying is don’t rely on other people, check your own coffee is drinkable. People seem to want be spoon fed these days.

The McDonalds case is different as the lady had scalding burns.

Casilero · 11/06/2023 20:07

ladydimitrescu · 11/06/2023 19:44

Shaky?? Really??

Maybe shaky is the wrong word, but if you get burned, you do get that weird hot and cold clammy, slightly faint feeling as your body tries to adjust internal temperature. Surely, you've experienced this? Have you never ever experienced extreme temperatures where this has happened? Either from a hot country, burning yourself on the grill, oven, or indeed scalding your mouth?

Maybe you're very young/lucky/not clumsy and this has never happened to you. But it's a bit mean to openly mock someone who has experienced this.

Citrines · 11/06/2023 20:08

Don't ever have a bibimbap OP. Anything could happen.

But we all check it by sipping it surely? That's how I check it. I don't carry a milk thermometer with me.

There are a lot of obtuse posters on this thread who think that workers should be allowed to do a shit job !

The woman in the McDonald's case held the coffee cup between her legs (near her crotch) while driving.

Florissant · 11/06/2023 20:17

I should add that her damages were limited due to this fact.

Why post stupid stuff. Lots of people have explained the difference in temperature between coffee chains and the temperature professionally made coffees should be served at.

Given this is clearly a busy coffee shop with people coming in after OP, you also have to consider that OP
is a shit customer? Because surely if it was shit service, it wouldn’t be so busy?

Just a thought…
