Tomorrow there is a big concert in our city.
60,000 so hotels are now all full or ridiculously expensive.
A week ago a "friend "(hasn't spoke to him in 10 years ) messaged asking if he could park his camper van on our drive tonight and my partner said yes (which okay it's fine )
Now tomorrow we are also going to this concert and I'm really excited and bought a new outfit and want to look nice.
The plan is to head into town around 1pm (we are lucky it's a 5 min walk to town and 15 to stadium )
Now he is saying they are coming inside for breakfast and a chat -I said okay no worries but in the morning il be getting ready (I want to do my hair /make up nice etc -I don't feel confident without makeup and would never be out with strangers without some make up on)
Partner has said no that's ignorant come and sit with us before you get ready and have breakfast and then quickly get ready.
I said no I'm getting ready then I'll make some breakfast -he said from what he remembers his friend likes early breakfast
Oh well -
Aibu here ?
What difference does it make if I'm getting ready whilst he is chatting with them?
I don't even know the guy

Do not give in OP! He agreed, he can make breakfast. If he acts like a prock at you having your own autonomy then you need to have a rethink about your relationship. Never ever allow anyone to make plans that makes more work for you. It's so fucking arrogant.
Also depressed to see the amount of posters suggesting you do what he tells you to. Depressed but not surprised.

Batalax · 10/06/2023 15:32

If he doesn’t want to make his breakfast himself then they can go out for breakfast. I’m not fussy about my appearance but even I wouldn’t want to entertain a stranger early in the morning.

Rightnowstraightaway · 10/06/2023 15:34

Tell boyf to join them for breakfast in their campervan?

Or tell him to make breakfast for his friends. But in this scenario I would join them for breakfast (compromise on 0930? 1130 isn't breakfast).

SallyWD · 10/06/2023 15:37

He sounds awful! Just bossing you around, telling you what's going to happen and expecting you to get up early wait on HIS guest!
Any normal person would respect your plans for the morning and cook themselves.

SallyWD · 10/06/2023 15:38

Even better - why don't they go out fir breakfast and you can get ready in peace.

Equalitea · 10/06/2023 16:24

Yanbu

TheRowdy3 · 10/06/2023 16:50

Why do YOU need to make breakfast?

Your OH and friend can sort it.

In this situation I would stick to my plan. I might meet for a drink before the concert.

SavvyWavvy · 10/06/2023 16:52

Your partner doesn’t understand what the word ignorant means.

NumberTheory · 10/06/2023 16:59

I wouldn't have called you ignorant, but you don't sound very hospitable and the whole "won't be around someone I don't know without makeup" is extremely tedious.

Yes, he does

DuesToTheDirt · 10/06/2023 18:30

Look at this from the point of view of the guest. If you were going to visit a friend, and your friend's partner, who you'd never met and was the opposite sex to you, was hanging around in their pyjamas making you breakfast...is it just me that would find that weird, uncomfortable and inappropriate?

Tribblesarelovely · 10/06/2023 18:43

Perfect28 · 10/06/2023 10:11

It's not ignorant but yabu for never wanting to show the world your unmade up face

Not unreasonable at all, I’m the same. We all deal with life in our own way.

ThursdayFreedom · 10/06/2023 19:05

@aaratty

HE said he could park on your driveway, HE has arranged breakfast, all for someone who just wants a favour after 10 years if no contact. I'd have no problem with that, but wouldn't be changing my plans to run around making breakfast.

I'm not remotely bothered who sees me in leggings & a T-shirt, bare feet & braless, make up last applied at least 15 years ago... your morning sounds like hell to me BUT it's your thing & your morning to do as YOU please.

tell him to sort breakfast & leave you alone. Tell him HE didn't ask if it was ok before agreeing, HE didn't ask what plans you have, HE expects you to make them breakfast AND at a time to suit someone he last saw 10 years ago & might be a committed brunch person now🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

HE is the ignorant one!

shout down the stairs..

'Hello Fred, I'll be down in a bit, I've a few things to do this morning!'

Just because people do it, doesn’t make it reasonable.

ReachForTheMars · 10/06/2023 19:51

Why did you volunteer to make breakfast at all?

Yeah; no way would I be comfortable with someone doing this, let alone a stranger. I would know I had inconvenienced them by arriving before they were ready to start their day.

ThatFraggle · 10/06/2023 20:48

I don't wear a bra with pyjamas so I would feel very exposed for a stranger to see me in them.

And he's not a friend. He's an acquaintance of your husband. No need to bend over backwards.

LBFseBrom · 10/06/2023 20:57

If she bent over backwards, not wearing a bra would be no problem, they'd flatten out or go under the arms....... It would be difficult to keep that position for a long period though.

Ah here, when I was young I wouldn't have let anyone see me without makeup either. Not the industrial amount of potions foreign to me that my daughters use, but makeup. It's only been since lockdown that I cba putting makeup on every time I leave the house and I'm 60.

My daughters also spend an inordinate amount of time putting makeup etc on - so what?!

I couldn't appear in front of anyone in my pjs because my nipples are too prominent!!! My kids object to them lol and I just say, "do you want me to cut them off?"!!

DeeCeeCherry · 11/06/2023 01:16

It would be an 'absolutely not' from me. You can pop your head round door, say hi then go get ready. If your boyfriend can't host his friend without your presence then don't let his insecurity become your problem. He's being ridiculous. Why cant they go to a cafe instead? I hope hes not going to pester you to make or help him make breakfast.

MrsCatE · 11/06/2023 02:18

Oh dear. They're taking the piss - literally. Obviously, want to use your place for bath, loo, kitchen, lounging and your DH expects you to cater for them. I'm sorry that your long awaited concert has turned into dealing with cheeky fuckers but your DH is really to blame.

MrsCatE · 11/06/2023 02:21

Forgot to mention cat issue; how old is DH? Sounds like a petulant child.

turtool · 11/06/2023 03:32

Sounds like your boyfriend cares more about a friend he hasn't seen in a decade than you.

theGooHasGone · 11/06/2023 03:47

Tell your boyfriend to get his freeloading pal to supply breakfast. Least he can do after the amount of money he's saving on a hotel. Frankly couldn't give two shits if he likes to eat early - well McDonalds is that way mate, bring me back a bacon roll meal would you?

Also all the people saying "ignorant" doesn't mean rude are themselves ignorant, because it can.

bladebladebla1 · 11/06/2023 08:21

Merryoldgoat · 10/06/2023 10:10

That isn’t want ignorant means.

He sounds like a twit.

I used to get this wrong all the time when I was a teen, young 20s. I've still no idea why I thought that's how to use the word for so long
