To not paint my toenails for my friends wedding tomorrow

Hairsayitdontsprayit · 09/06/2023 12:25

First world problem I know! I have painted my fingernails a lovely red but I have lost my toe separators and find painting my toes boring, plus I have a 10 month old baby who makes every task 10x more difficult to complete! My toes will be on show as I have sandals to wear with my dress tomorrow.

UABU- paint your toenails to match your fingernails
UANBU- nude toenails are fine

Having gone back to RTFT, I urge you to reconsider the gel option OP! Gel polish lasts AN AGE on toes, because they're not often exposed the same way finger nails are to wear and tear, and honestly, you can just peel the gel off toenails super easily when it begins to grow out. You feel really nice and glam with shiny gel toenails as well. I vote this option!!

Agree with this.

Come on OP make the effort and paint them. You will be glad you did tomorrow.

I can if I don't mind them looking a bit shit and not lasting!

If I want them to last then there's a clear base coat, two colour coats and a top coat. No way you're doing that in 2 mins!

Well that is at least an honest caveat.

I can't go anywhere without my toes done in an open toe, I know no one cares but it makes me feel put together. I go to the nail salon as I hate doing them myself and the whole waiting for them to dry, it's not cheap and is definitely a treat though!

I have to go to the salon to have mine done.

I have to wear varifocals, and when I bend over to do my toenails, I'm looking through the wrong bit of my glasses and can't see wtf I'm doing! When I cut them, I more or less have to do it by feel. This has led to the occasional nick before now ...

But I'd do them, OP. Open toed shoes and unpainted nails look strangely unfinished to me.

God, some of these answers are depressing. Even if nails are yellow or manky, it’s just a tiny part of a body and who cares what other people think? Personally I don’t think painted toenails always look lovely, especially bright colours like red look tacky imho, but that’s for myself, I don’t care if other people like them for themselves. No wonder we’ve got swathes of young girls wanting to opt out of being girls when they have these kinds of pressures on them, this is only the toes! When you are lying in your deathbed, will you think ‘I’m glad no one judged my toenails’?

Well I definitely don’t want to be shovelling in a canapé and catch a look at someone in sandals with yellow manky toenails next to me so I think that bit DOES matter a bit to be honest.

Purplecatshopaholic · 09/06/2023 13:35

To those who asked, I guess I think it’s lazy not to bother, and if you want bare toes (or, the horror, chipped nail polish), then wear closed toed shoes. I accept I am bonkers btw, and give no fucks - like I say, I wouldn’t comment on it, just silently judge, lol.

Thoughts and prayers.

I always feel 100% better when I paint my toe nails & wear open toed sandals (my toes & feet aren't great).

If it makes you feel better - paint them. Use loo roll as toe dividers

Softoprider · 09/06/2023 13:36

To be honest, it's not so much about whether or not the nails are painted - it's more about the condition of your feet. I have seen women wearing sandals in queues in supermarkets. shops etc and been revolted by the disgusting hard skin on display. If they don't look after their feet then what else don't they care about?
Give yourself a pedicure and the nails can be an afterthought OP

Why are you staring at strangers' feet?

ABugWife · 09/06/2023 13:37

So many things to consider from such an lighthearted thread.

Ok firstly, if you don't want to paint your toes, it's fine not to, if you need some kind of approval not to, here I give you mine. Go naked nailed.

Secondly, if you did want to pain them, next time you go to the loo, take the polish in and do the first coat there, takes maybe 30 seconds and then wear flip flops to dry. If you need another coat, do it next time you go the loo. Toe separators aren't required unless I have weirdly neat toes?

Thirdly, if you aren't getting nay time to relax maybe you and dh need to work together on helping the baby to be a little less high needs or dh needs to pull his weight more.

StarGuide · 09/06/2023 13:37

@Purplecatshopaholic what if her toenails are painted but her feet are really crusty with a hairy toe?

It's going to differ from person to person though. I can honestly say I don't register people's feet, and until this thread didn't realise how many people seem to take a real interest in the feet of others out and about, but I find painted toenails tacky and a bit, I dunno, icky? I wouldn't judge someone with them, but just don't like the look of them and wouldn't do it myself.

@DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder well enjoy your tiny miniature beef Wellington with a side of dermatophyte but not for me thank you!

Absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Justcallmebebes · 09/06/2023 13:39

I would never wear sandals to a wedding without painting my toes especially if I'd done my nails. It will look weird

Kokeshi123 · 09/06/2023 13:39

I think people should paint or not paint their toenails as desired, but like other posters I am pretty depressed at the number of people who think "unpainted toenails" constitutes slovenly behavior, akin to not washing or not combing your hair.

Of course, it's only women's toenails that are nasty enough to require covering with paint. Men's toenails do not require paint, because they are already so very beautiful.

MindIfISlytherin · 09/06/2023 13:39

Personally I think it's odd to have painted fingernails but not toenails only because it's so much easier to paint your toes (you can use your dominant hand for both feet!).

But I'm one of those people that has a weird thing about toes (the thought of them wiggling is just 🤢) so I'm probably the weird one here. I even paint DH's toenails to make his feet more bearable to look at 🤣

You do you as long as you don't regret the decision not to paint 5 mins before leaving the house tomorrow!

NightCzar · 09/06/2023 13:39

OP, you obviously don't really want to do it, so don't.

If I hand misunderstood and you do:
A) gel nails don't take long and on out a you can let them grow out.
B) one cost of nail varnish will be ok. Let baby cry for a bit if needed. Or walk around with them while nails dry.

deathbyhayfever · 09/06/2023 13:40

Oh and more generally, no need to paint your toenails! Tis just the patriarchy.

😂
oh please, some of us can make decision for ourselves, not all based on the "MEN" around us. Knowing that many men are not that keen on painted toes and make-up, but are superbly ignored by their partner who like the colour 😂

Elevel · 09/06/2023 13:41

Okay at this point I have to ask - are a lot of posters here unusually invested in feet or is this level of interest normal and I'm the weird one?!
We have a poster fretting about eating a canapé beside unacceptable toenails, I wouldn't even know what shoes the person beside was wearing because my eyes would be on the food/someone's face/the speaker, etc. Someone "shovelling" a canapé in would be worse than a foot tucked under the table if I'm honest. 🤣

deathbyhayfever · 09/06/2023 13:41

I always paint my nails, because I want to, but I personally can't stand matching hands and toes, looks far too mumsy

Softoprider · 09/06/2023 13:41

I don't think its getting overinvested in feet on a thread talking about - feet

ThanksItHasPockets · 09/06/2023 13:42

The timing is getting competitive. We’ve got from two minutes to 60 seconds to 30. Any advances? Anyone want to claim that they actually gain time in defiance of the laws of physics when they paint their toenails?

CovetedAsFuck · 09/06/2023 13:42

It might take two minutes to paint your toenails very, very badly but if you want them to actually look good, it's a longer process.

I would say natural is far better than a sloppy, desperate-looking paint job, but that's just me
