To not paint my toenails for my friends wedding tomorrow

Hairsayitdontsprayit · 09/06/2023 12:25

First world problem I know! I have painted my fingernails a lovely red but I have lost my toe separators and find painting my toes boring, plus I have a 10 month old baby who makes every task 10x more difficult to complete! My toes will be on show as I have sandals to wear with my dress tomorrow.

UABU- paint your toenails to match your fingernails
UANBU- nude toenails are fine

I never paint my toe nails and always wear sandals. I never knew that it was such a big deal to some women. I’m really into makeup but for some reason never got into nail varnish.

God, some of these answers are depressing. Even if nails are yellow or manky, it’s just a tiny part of a body and who cares what other people think? Personally I don’t think painted toenails always look lovely, especially bright colours like red look tacky imho, but that’s for myself, I don’t care if other people like them for themselves. No wonder we’ve got swathes of young girls wanting to opt out of being girls when they have these kinds of pressures on them, this is only the toes! When you are lying in your deathbed, will you think ‘I’m glad no one judged my toenails’?

Love this! ❤️

I use loo roll!!

Workawayxx · 09/06/2023 12:50

I'd say don't worry if you don't feel it will bother you! Having said that, I ran out of time to paint my toe nails for my best friend's wedding. I was a bridesmaid wearing sandals and i did sort of wish I had lovely painted toes, mainly because it makes me feel happy to look at them. Can you do it tonight when your DS is in bed or your DH/DP can look after him?

Are unpainted toenails meant to look slovenly now or something? WTF?

I get this is probably meant to be "lighthearted" but has anyone ever actually given a shit about the colour of someone's toenails?

This: is it bad form to not paint your toes? No one told me.... Is it poor etiquette to show a part of your body ungroomed?

I actually do paint my toenails but I literally couldn't give a monkeys whether anyone else does or not. Anyone who has time to worry about what your toenails look like isn't worthy of your consideration.

DS sleeps with me in bed and I wouldn’t want to crack open the nail Polish while he’s sleeping firstly because I don’t want the smell to bother him and secondly if he wakes I will have to get into bed with him and smudge them! DH is going out for a curry with the groom tonight and all the male friends. So all the women left with the babies, very fair!

To all the people saying it takes 2 minutes - how?! Is that just for one coat? It takes ages to do a couple of coats, waiting for them to dry in between

MrsKwazi · 09/06/2023 12:55

I have never used separators, you really don’t need to. It literally takes 30 seconds and if you don’t put it on too thick 3 mins drying time.

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 09/06/2023 12:55

Ooh, someone had unpainted toenails at my wedding and it ruined all the pictures and everyone is still talking about it ten years later.

Just kidding. Nobody will notice or give a shit.

Workawayxx · 09/06/2023 12:55

Ah, I had a DS who was just like that so totally get it. I'd just leave them and see if you get a sec tomorrow morning but otherwise just leave it.

It has taken me 10 minutes just looking for the toe separators. I still haven’t found them and in the process knocked my babies cosleeping crib off the furniture risers and I can’t lift it back onto them again. 2 mins my arse 🤣

ti be honest I’m weird about this (for myself, don’t care about other people!)- if I didn’t do toenails I wouldn’t have nails done, but red I’d need both- like hands would be glam/flashy-toes would say nude/natural/pretty!

SirTarquinasTrevelyan · 09/06/2023 12:56

Roll up loo roll to make separators.

Kitchen towel is much better as it is longer, stronger (to coin a phrase) but more importantly doesn't shed those little microfibres that float about and get stuck in/on the varnish.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 09/06/2023 12:57

Oh come on. You don't need toe separators and it takes about a minute.

askaway2023 · 09/06/2023 12:58

As pp said, I'm sure you can get away with doing them quickly and without separators - people don't usually get close enough to inspect how well you've done them.

mistermagpie · 09/06/2023 12:58

I honestly admire these parents who are so dedicated to their kids that they won't even take five minutes for a bit of self care. Not a dig, I'm being serious, I'm too selfish for that level of childcare. I had three under five at one point and still put a full face of makeup on every day, but that sort of thing matters to me.

If it matters to you then do it, I don't believe for one second that you don't actually have the time. Just stick the baby in the cot for five minutes, you can literally sit next to him and do it. If he screams so what? It's five minutes.

But if it doesn't matter or you don't want to then don't bother, nobody will mind or care or even notice.

Hairsayitdontsprayit · 09/06/2023 12:59

I also can’t find any of my nail polishes apart from this red one so my toes would have to be red ‘cheap’ looking or whatever PP said about bright toes 🤷🏻‍♀️

Can you nip anyway to get gels done, they are instantly dry so you don't need to worry about smudges afterwards?

Thisisbollocksmark · 09/06/2023 13:00

It's really not that hard to paint your toenails.

briarhill · 09/06/2023 13:00

Do men paint their toenails for people's weddings?

Whatkindofuckeryisthis · 09/06/2023 13:00

This is all very dramatic! I assume light hearted?! There has to be half an hour when you’re not attached to him? To paint and let them dry between now and tomorrow?

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 09/06/2023 13:00

Side point...who are all these people who do it in two minutes and it dries in three???

Even if I just do one colour coat rather than the full base coat, two colours and top coat shebang, it takes more than two minutes. And drying in three??? Without a dryer??? What brand is that? Every "quick dry" brand I've ever bought has been a fucking liar.

MatildaTheCat · 09/06/2023 13:00

Quick question: how did you get time to paint your fingernails? That’s in my experience much harder to get looking nice. Everyone who is saying they’ve never painted their nails a slightly missing the point that OP clearly does.

It matters not but come on, sometime in the next 24 hours I reckon you could manage this. If you want to.

almostoverthehill · 09/06/2023 13:01

Urgh I can’t stand unpainted toes. Mine are painted all year round

It’s more that my time is so precious now. If I have 10 minutes to burn do I really want to do it painting my toes, which I don’t find fun at all or I could be having a cup of tea reading my favourite book which I never get to do. But yes, I also don’t like being screamed at by my baby 24/7 so try to limit the amount of time I leave him to cry/scream 🤣
