To not paint my toenails for my friends wedding tomorrow

Hairsayitdontsprayit · 09/06/2023 12:25

First world problem I know! I have painted my fingernails a lovely red but I have lost my toe separators and find painting my toes boring, plus I have a 10 month old baby who makes every task 10x more difficult to complete! My toes will be on show as I have sandals to wear with my dress tomorrow.

UABU- paint your toenails to match your fingernails
UANBU- nude toenails are fine

I've put YABU, but with light-hearted intentions! Personally I think you'll feel waaaay better with matching toenails, and speaking as someone who is atrocious at painting my own toenails (and has never owned a toe separator), you really can't tell from the natural distance most people are from your feet whether your nails are neatly painted or not. You just get the glancing impression of matching red nails, and it's super aesthetically pleasing! So I say go for the toes, don't over worry about doing it neatly - just have some tissue on hand to dab away any rogue nail varnish.

What is it with MNers and pure lies? You can’t feed a family of four for a week on one free-range chicken and you can’t paint your toenails in two minutes (or even one, according to the most delusional pp).

MooMooSharoo · 09/06/2023 13:23

I tried to use a toe separator once. Do I have odd toes, or is it supposed to feel like they're all being dislocated??

I just use a sheet of kitchen towel now, rolled in to a sausage shape then weave them between my toes. Much easier!

I can if I don't mind them looking a bit shit and not lasting!

If I want them to last then there's a clear base coat, two colour coats and a top coat. No way you're doing that in 2 mins!

howlismoving · 09/06/2023 13:25

What nail polish are people using that takes longer than a minute to dry? I'm just using cheap 60 second ones from Rimmel and they take hardly any time to dry at all.

I don’t like gels as they make you go back to get them removed and I don’t want that commitment tbh. You could leave them and they grow out and start looking nasty. Would rather bare nails than grown out polish!

Having gone back to RTFT, I urge you to reconsider the gel option OP! Gel polish lasts AN AGE on toes, because they're not often exposed the same way finger nails are to wear and tear, and honestly, you can just peel the gel off toenails super easily when it begins to grow out. You feel really nice and glam with shiny gel toenails as well. I vote this option!!

StarGuide · 09/06/2023 13:25

@Tinybrother It was mostly tongue in cheek in response to the implication that if you don't paint your toenails then you are somehow lacking in something or unattractive but there is truth that if someone has something healthy be it amazing hair or naturally good nails, it is something that people generally strive for... there's a whole world out there just dedicated for nails. cuticles and fungus nail problems. It affects people's confidence to have nail problems.. if someone has healthy toenails when fungal nail infection is so common, this is a great thing to be grateful for and want to have.. a nail bed can say so much about your health.

God I don't think I've said fungus and fungal nail infections this much ever. 😂

SheDragonheart · 09/06/2023 13:25

How can it be a two minute job? When it takes at least 5 minutes if not longer to dry!

Roll a sheet of kitchen roll or tissue up and weave it through your toes, one over, one under, to separate them.
Whether you paint them or not is totally up to you. I would paint them to match my finger nails if I was wearing open toed shoes to a wedding, but that's just personal choice. As you can see by the other responses nobody will really notice or care.

Am confused... how to paint the toenails of the toes where the kitchen roll has gone over?
Oh and more generally, no need to paint your toenails! Tis just the patriarchy.

Why do women do this to themselves. There is nothing bad about unpainted bloody toenails.

And 'urgh' from PP above... what is 'urgh' about unpainted toenails?

We are so conditioned to need silly standards of ornamentation and grooming. Why do we buy into it?

I get 'I like it and I do it for me' but 'urgh' and 'i couldn't stand it' is an odd way to react to something totally normal.

There does seem to be a tendency among some to elevate grooming preferences to moral standards. Can only assume they have little else to occupy them

It doesn't matter how long toenails take to dry in summer, you aren't putting socks on at any time! You can go barefoot or chuck flip flops on until they're rock hard.

Obviously OP isn't arsed but just wanted to mention that minor point.

Just had to mention I love your user name. :)

That stuff takes ages to dry properly. It chips in half a day if you're not careful.

KimberleyClark · 09/06/2023 13:27

Paint them, doesn’t matter if they are not perfect, no one is going to be looking that closely at your toes unless they are some kind of foot fetishist.

CoalCraft · 09/06/2023 13:27

I have been to several weddings and have never painted my toenails in my life . Don't bother.

Sothisisitthen · 09/06/2023 13:28

I don’t ever use nail polish so I’m puzzled by your post.

Softoprider · 09/06/2023 13:28

I wear flip flops (crocs ones) all the time in summer as they are sooo comfortable. Toes are on display all the time and I like seeing them painted but I find the toe separators very painful to use and I have to use them as my toenails all sort of sit on each other.
I use make up removing pads rolled up instead. Much more comfortable and I use the Sally Hansen quick dry varnish - you can get it in ASDA and there are lots of colours. It goes on like gel and dries very quickly.

All the more reason not to bother, surely??

Tiddlypomtiddlypom · 09/06/2023 13:28

I’d never paint my own nails. I can’t be arsed. If I can’t get someone else to do it, I simply don’t bother.

Slightly amused that the majority think you’re unreasonable 😆

So why bother?!

RampantIvy · 09/06/2023 13:29

Just noticed my silly autocreect. My kindle substitutes all kind of strange words even though I have switched auto correct off.

My post should have said

As long as your toenails are in good condition and not discoloured it will be fine.

I don't judge people who donn't paint their toenails. How shallow is that?

howlismoving · 09/06/2023 13:29

@DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder how often do you use it? I use it all the time on my toes and have never seen it chip throughout the day while I'm wearing sandals 😅

I'm talking about fingers. Toes don't do anywhere near as much stuff and don't chip so easily.

Elevel · 09/06/2023 13:30

I can't say I'd even consider painting them, I think I've done it maybe twice in my entire life and it's felt weird each time. I dunno, it's probably just me but I find painted toenails a bit yucky. I wouldn't, however, even be registering never mind judging other people's feet!

Do what you want - I guarantee no-one will be judging the men at the wedding as harshly as some of the replies you've had here!

itshimright · 09/06/2023 13:31

How is this even a question?!

Absolutely no-one will notice or care if you don't paint them!

Lcb123 · 09/06/2023 13:31

No one at the wedding will notice or care. But you could have done it in the time you wrote this post and replied… I’ve never used toe separators and it takes me about 60 secs to paint mine
