To not paint my toenails for my friends wedding tomorrow

Hairsayitdontsprayit · 09/06/2023 12:25

First world problem I know! I have painted my fingernails a lovely red but I have lost my toe separators and find painting my toes boring, plus I have a 10 month old baby who makes every task 10x more difficult to complete! My toes will be on show as I have sandals to wear with my dress tomorrow.

UABU- paint your toenails to match your fingernails
UANBU- nude toenails are fine

@DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder well enjoy your tiny miniature beef Wellington with a side of dermatophyte but not for me thank you!

Why are you eating off people’s feet at weddings? You must move in niche circles

Kanaloa · 09/06/2023 13:43

Purplecatshopaholic · 09/06/2023 13:35

To those who asked, I guess I think it’s lazy not to bother, and if you want bare toes (or, the horror, chipped nail polish), then wear closed toed shoes. I accept I am bonkers btw, and give no fucks - like I say, I wouldn’t comment on it, just silently judge, lol.

It’s lazy not to paint your toenails? Why? Do you think it’s lazy not to do other things?

Keeping up with personal care and basic hygiene is of course a necessity. Saying it’s lazy not to paint your toenails would be like be saying ‘it’s lazy when people don’t bother to get a fringe’ just because I personally have a fringe because it suits me and looks nice.

I don't think its getting overinvested in feet on a thread talking about - feet

But the thread only exists because multiple people are cheerfully staring at strangers' feet. Which is pretty weird.

The timing is getting competitive. We’ve got from two minutes to 60 seconds to 30. Any advances? Anyone want to claim that they actually gain time in defiance of the laws of physics when they paint their toenails?

still just as long as it takes to be on this thread to be fair

It's not the discussion - it's the posters who mention judging feet in the supermarket, being put off feet while eating, making assumptions about people out and about based on their toenails... I mean, unless the foot in question was being rubbed over my shopping or whacked onto the table as I ate, I wouldn't notice or care. 🤷‍♀️

Not really. I like shoes. When I see a woman, especially at an event, I look at what she's wearing, shoes included - I am marginally less interested in men shoes.

Painted toes are pretty obvious with sandals.

DanceMonster · 09/06/2023 13:44

I’ve never used a toe separator. I just paint them! My nails don’t touch any other part of my foot anyway.

Kanaloa · 09/06/2023 13:45

Elevel · 09/06/2023 13:41

Okay at this point I have to ask - are a lot of posters here unusually invested in feet or is this level of interest normal and I'm the weird one?!
We have a poster fretting about eating a canapé beside unacceptable toenails, I wouldn't even know what shoes the person beside was wearing because my eyes would be on the food/someone's face/the speaker, etc. Someone "shovelling" a canapé in would be worse than a foot tucked under the table if I'm honest. 🤣

You mean you don’t eat your wedding canapés lying on your stomach on the floor with your face on another person’s sandals? Hmm… maybe that’s the problem.

Or are you just a normal person who tends be eating and chatting and dancing, leaving no time to examine other people’s toenails to decide if they’re acceptable or not?

Catsmere · 09/06/2023 13:45

DappledThings · 09/06/2023 12:34

Are unpainted toenails meant to look slovenly now or something? WTF?

I get this is probably meant to be "lighthearted" but has anyone ever actually given a shit about the colour of someone's toenails?

My thoughts exactly. Are women being conned that painting their toenails is some sort of grooming requirement now? Bad enough when it’s fingernails.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 09/06/2023 13:46

I always have my toenails painted.

I bet if you do them, you'll feel more "polished" tomorrow.

BadNomad · 09/06/2023 13:46

Painted toenails is like lipstick on a pig.

Softoprider · 09/06/2023 13:47

@Elevel
I think if you are behind someone in a queue and notice they are wearing sandals and then see really disgusting feet inside those sandals it is like staring at a boil on a face............. just why? Why not at least wash your feet first before exposing them to an innocent stranger waiting to pay for her shopping?

LOL

Beginningless · 09/06/2023 13:48

StarGuide · 09/06/2023 13:37

@Purplecatshopaholic what if her toenails are painted but her feet are really crusty with a hairy toe?

This made me giggle a lot. I’m also curious to know the answer!

But less funny is the theme of disgust about the natural state of women’s bodies. To the pp who derided the idea of the patriarchy being related here…who ultimately benefits from all of these beauty practices? Yes we often do them for ourselves, but look at the lineage of these ideas and WHO are the people spending hours doing things to their bodies in order to not be ‘disgusting’ ‘hairy’ or godforbid ‘discoloured’. What are we teaching our young women today, it’s worse than ever.

googlejourney · 09/06/2023 13:48

It's taken you longer to start this thread than actually just painting them Grin

Personally I love having painted toenails - especially bright red! I'd feel more glamorous with them painted. So I'd do if for myself.

Nobody else will notice or care, so it's about how you feel!

Enjoy the wedding!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 09/06/2023 13:49

IMHO unpainted nails look way better than brightly painted ones, so long as they're cut and filed properly and not all ragged. It's such a daft thing to paint tiny bits of your body, if you think about it! Also, chemicals from nail polish have been found in breast milk, which is one reason I gave up painting my nails - I don't want to be poisoning myself.

KimberleyClark · 09/06/2023 13:49

I like to paint my toenails in summer when wearing sandals, but don’t bother painting my fingernails (though I might if I was going to a wedding). Is that weird?

Softoprider · 09/06/2023 13:49

Nah - you're overthinking it - just wash your feet mate

Kanaloa · 09/06/2023 13:49

It seems really odd to me as well that people keep calling them ‘bare toenails.’ As in ‘you can’t wear sandals with bare toenails.’ Do you call natural colour hair ‘bare hair?’ If someone doesn’t tattoo and tan every inch of skin before wearing a short dress is it ‘bare skin?’ There’s an implication that to be acceptable it has to be decorated. They aren’t bare toenails. They’re just toenails. That’s how they’re meant to be - putting the moral implication on the decorating of them implies that painted is the correct state, when in fact it’s not.

CovetedAsFuck · 09/06/2023 13:49

How can it be 'lazy' not to wear toenail polish? Hmm It's not mandatory, it's an optional adornment that won't suit everyone's look or lifestyle.

Well-cared-for unpainted toenails can look great and it's pathetic to assign arbitrary moral values to the use of fucking nail polish

TheMurderousGoose · 09/06/2023 13:49

MooMooSharoo · 09/06/2023 13:23

I tried to use a toe separator once. Do I have odd toes, or is it supposed to feel like they're all being dislocated??

I just use a sheet of kitchen towel now, rolled in to a sausage shape then weave them between my toes. Much easier!

Toe separators feel icky to me. I'm the same way about sandals with a toe post. Bleurgh.

A piece of tissue or kitchen roll works much better.

Are you confused? Nobody is talking about washing. Why are you conflating washing and personal hygiene with decoration? Do you think if someone doesn’t wear earrings they don’t shower?

Excellent question!

pillsthrillsandbellyache · 09/06/2023 13:50

My toenails are painted year round, that's my preference but I don't think I have ever noticed if someone isn't wearing any. It's part of my Sunday evening routine cos I love a routine.

This, use toilet roll

Holy shit, you're doing it wrong.
