Another dog attack

Unsure33 · 07/06/2023 19:04

There is a horrific video on twitter of a young woman being attacked in east London by three dogs

owner in hoodie , pit bull types .

I am a dog owner but also have ended up in hospital after a dog attack and it made me feel sick

honestly I think we need dog licences , dog wardens and more accountability because the current laws don’t seem to be deterring people letting dogs off their leads and having no control . If it prices some owners out I am sorry tough luck . Dogs are expensive and there needs to be some more incentive to keep them under control .

What, a separate area for the 92% who agree?
OR how about this: the small number of idiots who value dogs more than humans should be confined to a separate area

These threads run and many post and same with comments in news

If people want to petition something else other than banning they can

It’s clear chat forum threads are not doing anything though.

And 92% so far are saying yanbu so the sentiment is there

ThisSummerBetterBeDarnGood · 07/06/2023 20:01

Yes because pit bulls are good dangerous and are banned. These are dogs seem even worse.

Seriously, can’t MN make a special dog haters page, so the rest of us don’t have see these miserable, now multiple starts per day, threads.

What is your problem? Want to live in denial?

I think it's the same poster under a name change. I have also noticed a spate of these threads in AIBU, when there's no "AIBU?" involved. The amount of irresponsible owners is awful, but I don't understand the need to point out every attack when the news is there for everyone to watch/read. Or at least put it in Chat.

The reason there are so many threads is because there are so many attacks at the moment.

I’d like to see a zero tolerance approach to it. Your dog attacks anyone, it is euthanised immediately and you get a hefty fine too. I’d happily include the yappy little bastards in that as well as the “gentle giants” who always seem to be the ones who rip people’s fucking throats out despite what posters like to claim about the real dangers being cocker spaniels and daschunds.

Good dangerous??
Banning breeds doesn’t work. We have banned several. More dog attacks. It isn’t the answer.

ginghamstarfish · 07/06/2023 20:03

I hate dogs, and am constantly amazed that week in week out we hear of people being attacked or killed by the manky things, but nothing ever happens. If it was any other kind of animal doing this people would be up in arms. And ANY dog can bite or attack in certain circumstances, although most dog owners think that of course theirs wouldn't, just as they think they have perfect recall so can let them run around loose. It's a tiny minority who can actually be arsed to put in the time to achieve any sort of training.

RipWheelersHat · 07/06/2023 20:04

The kind of people who own these dogs are not the kind of people who are going to pay for or adhere to a licence with any rules. There will just be more backyard breeders breeding them and people finding other ways to get hold of them

Repeal the current Dangerous Dogs Act and replace with new framework

This is a much better petition. It specifically calls out that targetting breed has not worked and wants the laws doing so repealled in favour of better methods...

"We want the Government to repeal the Dangerous Dogs Act and replace it with legislation that focuses on early intervention to prevent dog bites and tackle dog-related issues regardless of breed or type, based solely on their behaviour.

The Government commissioned a steering group to provide advice on policies aimed at reducing dog attacks and promoting responsible ownership of dogs. However, their report is not due until next year.

In view of shocking and tragic events that continue to result from the current legislation, urgent action is required NOW, in the interest of public safety and the welfare of dogs. Organisations involved in the Government's steering group oppose Breed Specific Legislation and agree breed is not a prediction of aggressive behaviour. We believe the current legislation is enabling more fatalities and failing to prevent the dog attack trend. It needs repeal immediately."

ThisSummerBetterBeDarnGood · 07/06/2023 20:06

Too dangerous.

I did say the dog that attacked me years ago was not one of the banned breeds. And actually nothing happened to the owner . The dog was put down after it attacked someone else. It turned out it was actually Ill and in a lot of pain , but that was not the total reason .

Because of the sheer amount of deluded entitled dog owners who think dogs take precedent over humans.

Elysiaxo · 07/06/2023 20:07

The UK has so few banned breeds compared to the US and most European countries. 🤔

ThisSummerBetterBeDarnGood · 07/06/2023 20:08

@RipWheelersHat of course they are not and probably already used to evading they authorities and living away from the law.

SidekickSylvia · 07/06/2023 20:08

Is she okay? It looked like the guy was keeping hold of two of them, to give her a fighting chance with the one locked onto her arm or sleeve, because his two were trying to join in. One of his dogs briefly got free as he tried to pull the attacking dog from her, and it immediately jumped up towards her throat/face, fortunately missing her. The guy seems to get hold of it again, and the video ends.

I really hope it was her sleeve, and that she's okay. She was on the ground at one point and did well to quickly jump up again.

ThisSummerBetterBeDarnGood · 07/06/2023 20:08

Oh thank d this is there closed kne, any new one a?

So take the dogs away and they can’t own another one which is why I was leaning towards compulsory licences , but I understand that needs man power and resources that all needs paying for . We can’t give up can we?

No responsible dog owner will tell you their dog isn’t capable of attacking - I’d trust my dogs 100% but I don’t trust them enough to put my children’s lives in danger which is the crux of it. People who mince about with dogs with no recall or training are just bad bastards.

It’ll be interesting to see what this would be.

I don’t mind if people disagree on breed banning, I’m glad that petitions are being signed. If we want change it needs to be evident beyond chat

No idea . I just could hear those screams and could not watch tbh .

It'll be a tall order to get the RSPCA on board, I think. They are very vocial about opposing BSL.

https://www.rspca.org.uk/getinvolved/campaign/bsl

End Breed Specific Legislation | BSL Dogs | RSPCA

End Breed Specific Legislation and join our campaign to help put an end to the suffering of dogs based on appearance.

One hopes she is OK. I imagine she would tire before then dog. Maybe people standing there watching could call police and ambulance.
