So this happened a few miles away from where I live.
Call me old fashioned but I think this is totally inappropriate and somebody should have called the police.
I have been a naturist for 40 years but the old fashioned kind who doesn't think dangling your genitals in front of families and young children who have gone for a meal is at all appropriate.
I would question why they found the need to do this. There are plenty of naturist clubs in the area.
People go to naturist clubs to get an all over tan and be a member of an organisation that usually has a pool and cheap membership.
My non naturist friends think I'm being stuffy and ridiculous am I?

Diners shocked as naked pair enjoy meal in Burnham-On-Sea pub

Diners at a Burnham-On-Sea pub say they were shocked after a naked man and woman walked into the bar and were served a meal.

I mostly think this is funny and just can't get worked up about it. I don't have the hang ups about nudity that most British people seem to have though.

Fraaahnces · 07/06/2023 12:52

Sounds both chilly and impractical too. Hot grease spilling all over the bits could lead to terrible injuries.

SlashBeef · 07/06/2023 12:53

I honestly feel there's some sort of fetish aspect when people inflict that on unwilling members of the public.

Of course there is. It's one thing being topless on a beach, but sitting eating dinner in a restaurant? Who wants a naked bum on a restaurant seat, never mind anything else.

Loverofoxbowlakes · 07/06/2023 12:55

I seem to recall that it is not illegal to be naked in public as long as you don't intend to cause offence.

Going into a non-naturist pub for lunch is undoubtedly going to upset the majority, you're right op, disgusting and the landlord should have kicked them out.

quitefranklyabsurd · 07/06/2023 12:57

As the article says it’s not against the law. The police I doubt would have attended.

adriftinadenofvipers · 07/06/2023 12:57

Definitely should have been kicked out! I’d have walked. Would put me right off eating 🙄

HerbsandSpices · 07/06/2023 12:58

I don't think it's disgusting but, given cultural norms, I think it is unnecessary and shouldn't have been done.

Saddlesore · 07/06/2023 13:00

Naturist, maybe. Exhibitionist, definitely.

5128gap · 07/06/2023 13:00

So many special people these days who simply have to 'express themselves' by drawing the maximum amount of attention they can. Nothing remotely remarkable about them, so they have to breech social norms to get noticed. Its extremely tiresome and intrusive for other people, as much as you want to myob, they make it nigh on impossible for you to ignore them. They need to grow up, and the pub needs to give over trying to appease this nonsense.

HoldingTheDoor · 07/06/2023 13:00

Even in places where it's more generally accepted, nudity is generally only expected and accepted in certain places. It's not a free for all.

Letitrow · 07/06/2023 13:01

Of course the pub said this:

we pride ourselves on inclusivity

There's nothing inherently wrong with nudity, human bodies are not disgusting or whatever else, but I do believe there is a time and a place. I wouldn't want or my child to be around a naked couple whilst eating. Of course if its an advertised thing of a place that is very open to naturists then you make an informed decision when you go, in this case though the pub made that decision on behalf of the people who had already paid for their food and drinks.

Just because something isn't illegal doesn't mean its something that people are generally comfortable with.

I agree.

SmartHome · 07/06/2023 13:03

I really couldnt care about the visibility/fetsh side of it and my kids would just laugh at them. I think it's really unhygenic to sit in public places that other people have to share without pants on though. It's also really silly an impractical as a PP said - if you drop a hot chip down your front it's going to hurt a lot more.

I'd have walked out.

I am not willing to participate in someone's proclivity to be naked in front of strangers. They obviously get a kick out of it.

And how do you know if offence is intended or not? Read their minds?

Surely it's indecent exposure.

Stupid comment.

I saw a documentary about naturists a while back and they said it was the normal etiquette to sit on towels. So hopefully they did that.

thenightsky · 07/06/2023 13:07

Is there no such crime as indecent exposure anymore?

Scabbyknackers · 07/06/2023 13:08

Not read the article but meh, I wouldn't be bothered about a couple of nudists. The human body is both the most and least interesting thing about my work. I'd be a bit irritated if they were looking around to check who was staring etc. Anything exhibitionist would be gross.

Maddy70 · 07/06/2023 13:09

I can't get annoyed by this tbh. Each to their own. Although I don't want a sweaty arse on the seat I'm about to sit on next

HecticHedgehog · 07/06/2023 13:09

@MistyGreenAndBlue that's literally what the law about indecent exposure says. It's only an offence if intended to cause alarm and distress.

Yet The Naked Rambler was arrested multiple times and spent time in prison too.

And how is such intent determined?

Possibly going to a non nudist public place with young children there?
Sounds deliberate to me
