So this happened a few miles away from where I live.
Call me old fashioned but I think this is totally inappropriate and somebody should have called the police.
I have been a naturist for 40 years but the old fashioned kind who doesn't think dangling your genitals in front of families and young children who have gone for a meal is at all appropriate.
I would question why they found the need to do this. There are plenty of naturist clubs in the area.
People go to naturist clubs to get an all over tan and be a member of an organisation that usually has a pool and cheap membership.
My non naturist friends think I'm being stuffy and ridiculous am I?

Diners at a Burnham-On-Sea pub say they were shocked after a naked man and woman walked into the bar and were served a meal.

Safeguarding kids from inappropriate behaviour = you are as bad as the Taliban

Grin

When someone brings in something like the Taliban to "support" their point, they have already lost. It's an exaggerated response to make people feel like they are "just like the Taliban" if they don't want weenie waggers in family restaurants.
I don't care if people want to be naturists. They can do it in their own environment all they want. The rest of us have the right not to have to see it and think about the grossness of them walking around a restaurant naked sending all kinds of bodily matter floating around.

YUCK!

ellyeth · 12/06/2023 16:39

I am rather inhibited about such matters, but I don't necessarily see that as a desirable trait, and I do not think nudity is disgusting.

Having said that, we live in a society where many people do not feel comfortable with nudity - and it is not something we expect to encounter in a public space. I think the couple must have known that it might cause some discomfort to others. I suspect they are people who like to be the centre of attention, even if it is in the form of outrage.

I don't really understand the law because how would it be possible to define if someone intended to cause offence? I suppose if some customers went over and asked them to cover up, and they refused, that would show intentionality.

That reasoning was stretched tighter than a rubber band wound around a watermelon, thrice.

Oversimplifying and distorting may be fun but it hampers debate and ultimately children are amongst those that suffer the consequences. Body ignorance creates a climate conducive to body image problems. Nudity helps to create a climate in which what people really look like is no longer kept from people. Labiaplasty was just an example of the sort of thing that results from body image problems. You can't say that lack of nudity causes it. You can say that the lack is one of a number of factors that make it more likely.
I am going to put together a bibliography of the research evidence for posting here but it will probably be a week or more before I can get that done.

Can’t wait😄

Famzonhol · 12/06/2023 17:58

Will your research tell us how 11 year olds will benefit from being more relaxed with nudity so they’ll be comfortable being nude in front of older men like yourself?

That reasoning was stretched tighter than a rubber band wound around a watermelon, thrice.

Given the context that's conjuring rather unfortunate images.

Luckily, I'm not in favour of indiscriminate public nudity so I have no idea what they are.

Interested that so many think this is ok, yet a transgender in their own cubicle in a women's toilet block is a seen as worthy of a crime. MN is a very odd place!

It's the fact a MALE who can overpower a woman, is in the women's toilet block. Have a think about it. It's about the whole layout, not the cubicle.

Haven't read the whole thread, it's long. But the thought unfolding in my mind on reading this is how my own personal attitudes to it have changed, mainly spanning the last decade.

I have no hang-ups about nudity whatsoever. I don't view the human body as in any way disgusting or taboo. But there's a normalizing of fetishized behaviour of late in which safeguarding boundaries are being persistently eroded. It doesn't take much of a leap to work out where this will lead.

Drag-queen storytime in libraries aimed at children, furries attending pride marches and protests, males encroaching into spaces where females are vulnerable, AGP, some problematic policies within and surrounding schools (man dressed as schoolgirl hanging around at leaving time and nobody turned a hair or did a thing about it). The issue is the unwilling participation of bystanders in those fetishes (it's others' discomfort that is part of the kick). As for MAPs on Twitter, this is a frightening attempt to legitimize what is usually seen as the most dangerous taboo in our society.

Naturism is inherently unsexual from my understanding, but naturists by and large behave within set boundaries. And like the fetishes outlined above, this act erodes those boundaries. If it's not OK for the naked rambler, why is it permissible for them?

About 7-10 years ago this wouldn't have bothered me unduly. Now, with an added insight made inevitable by the recent assault on women's and children's rights, it does.

I think this is a complete rebuttal of the views that some PPs , who definitely come across as men, are trying to expound on this thread.
Additionally, they don't like that many of us see this behaviour as so obviously transgressive that we suspect motivations other than simple naturism are involved.
So what we are saying is : We see you, we can call this out if we want to, and our main motivation is to safeguard our kids.

LadyMuckingabout · 14/06/2023 09:46

I can agree with Malcolm to the extent that we see “perfect” bodies in films/on tv/online etc which can make one a bit paranoid about our own cellulite/wobbly bits.

HOWEVER I do not wish to be “educated” one tiny bit when I’m EATING. It’s not just the sight of boobs, bums and male tackle, I would vomit at the very thought of sitting on those chairs after they’d been on them. Ugh.

So many special people these days who simply have to 'express themselves' by drawing the maximum amount of attention they can. Nothing remotely remarkable about them, so they have to breech social norms to get noticed. Its extremely tiresome and intrusive for other people, as much as you want to myob, they make it nigh on impossible for you to ignore them. They need to grow up, and the pub needs to give over trying to appease this nonsense.

This.

ContinuousProcrastination · 16/06/2023 11:14

I honestly feel there's some sort of fetish aspect when people inflict that on unwilling members of the public.

This. Its also selfish, i don't really want to see people's genitalia, and i also don't want to explain to my children why its ok for these adults to break widely accepted societal rules but not ok for them to. And no, i don't want to allow my children to sit naked to eat lunch in a pub.

Its imposing your perspective on others in a way that's really hard to escape and reality, clothing is useful. It prevents sweaty legs from chafing, keeps us warm in winter and protected from the sun in summer, a lot of the time we do need it in this country.

Like just about all criminal offences it's to do with state of mind and intention.

s.66 Sexual Offences Act 2003. It is often referred to as "Indecent Exposure" but that is very misleading slang. "Aggressive Exposure" much more accurately reflects what the offence actually is.

They don't even need to. Only 10% of exposure/voyeurism leads to charges. And that's of what's reported - most isn't. We effectively have legalised flashing.

What worries me is people who get off on these paraphilias do tend to escalate. Flashing is a red flag.
