So this happened a few miles away from where I live.
Call me old fashioned but I think this is totally inappropriate and somebody should have called the police.
I have been a naturist for 40 years but the old fashioned kind who doesn't think dangling your genitals in front of families and young children who have gone for a meal is at all appropriate.
I would question why they found the need to do this. There are plenty of naturist clubs in the area.
People go to naturist clubs to get an all over tan and be a member of an organisation that usually has a pool and cheap membership.
My non naturist friends think I'm being stuffy and ridiculous am I?

Diners shocked as naked pair enjoy meal in Burnham-On-Sea pub

Diners at a Burnham-On-Sea pub say they were shocked after a naked man and woman walked into the bar and were served a meal.

I can see both sides.

I don't think I'd be outraged, but I would probably eyeroll. They were clearly doing it for attention, which I don't think is really in the spirit of naturism.

My young kids would probably have laughed, but they would have initially been shocked and they probably would have looked to me to take their lead.

I also think hygienically it's not great in a restaurant.

But the couple have got what they wanted - attention.

So actually, no, I initially said I could see both sides, but no, I think they were being needlessly attention seeking which is not in the spirit of being a naturist.

Overall - a massive eye roll and a slow handclap for them.

Nevermind31 · 07/06/2023 13:37

It sounds unhygienic

I don't want to be eating a meal and have a dick or a minge come walking past at eye level whilst doing so. Can't believe they weren't asked to leave

That is an absolutely gruesome image Grin

I agree with you

Thesunwillcomeoutverysoon · 07/06/2023 13:39

Of course you can see both sides!

We must be practically neighbours, I also love a few miles away from there.

Knowing the town extremely well, and the pub in question, I would say that choosing to eat at that pub was absolutely inappropriate. It's a pub on the main street through the small town, 2 minutes walk from the beach, it is a place for cheap family pub grub. At that time of night on a summer weekend it was obvious that families with children would be there, and that the pub would be busy.

I was in the town on the day in question, with my DC, friend and her DC, not in that pub eating, but one also in the town which isn't so family centered, but was still packed with families.

I think some people are becoming so open-minded that their brains have fallen out. Stop making out that people that aren't on board with things like this are prudes and pearl-clutchers.

It's a fetish or the intention to shock, what else would it be?
If the man has an erection, would it still be OK? If not, why not? It's just a body, right?

People like this enjoy the attention.
It's not OK to be naked in a public place where everyone else is dressed, especially if there are children involved.
If you want to be naked in public, go and join a club.

Also, the restaurant would also never get my custom again for allowing it. If they're a place for naked dining, it's not a place I would go. Let's hope they have lots of naked clientele to keep them afloat now this news is out.

Indoorcatmum · 07/06/2023 13:41

I personally think it goes deeper than a couple of naked people in a pub.

It is showing a distinct lack of care for other people's circumstances or pasts. I know women and a child who due to trauma would be horrifically impacted by seeing a naked man in a setting where it was unexpected and they weren't able to mentally prepare.

In typical daily life, this isn't a problem as you can avoid porn and intimacy if you want to.

I don't believe for one second that they were just naturists. They definitely did this to be seen by as many people as possible in a setting that would shock and cause conversation.

Gross

Carryonkeepinggoing · 07/06/2023 13:42

Claiming they were not aiming to cause distress or upset reminds me of my toddler nicking the open packet of biscuits and telling me ´I just want to look at them’. Sure you do.

ZenNudist · 07/06/2023 13:43

I'm more concerned how someone managed 1,000 mile naked cycle ride across the UK!!! Chafing.

Cosyblankets · 07/06/2023 13:43

Naked bum on a seat eugh

Letitrow · 07/06/2023 13:45

Yep. This is where excessive pandering to "inclusion" gets us. Some people think it's their right to do anything they want anywhere, and the rest of us don't have a right to say no.

Precisely this.

drpet49 · 07/06/2023 13:46

SlashBeef · 07/06/2023 12:53

I honestly feel there's some sort of fetish aspect when people inflict that on unwilling members of the public.

This. Bunch of perverts.

FlamingMadKatie · 07/06/2023 13:47

@5128gap has described this perfectly. It's nothing more than attention seeking, with a rather pervy edge.

sadlittlelifejane · 07/06/2023 13:51

It doesn't really bother me. It's a naked body. We all have one. Where do we draw the line on where we should cover up? Some would find a mini skirt offensive. You wouldn't call the police on them..

SiobhanSharpe · 07/06/2023 13:51

Highly inappropriate attention seeking.
The trouble is, refusing to serve them might have been exactly what they wanted.

Emotionalsupportviper · 07/06/2023 13:52

I hope they thoroughly washed the seats after they'd left! 😡

This is sheer exhibitionism, and they shouldn't have been allowed in unless they covered up.

Hintofreality · 07/06/2023 13:53

I love my husband, I am familiar with his body, know what his bum crack looks like and yet, would not want to see it whilst eating. Therefore, no freaking way would I tolerate a strangers bare arse and dangly bits in a restaurant.

False equivalence.

MonumentalLentil · 07/06/2023 13:54
  1. I hope they took their own towels to sit on.
  2. Assume there was no sig on the door with regard to dress code.
  3. They are exhibitionists and arseholes.
  4. I think that as a country we are very uptight about nudity in the home and protecting children from seeing family nude, but I think this kind of exposure should be restricted to designated areas rather than anywhere you fancy. (I bet they are swingers).
VestaTilley · 07/06/2023 13:54

YANBU. It’s indecent exposure and exhibitionism. This stuff is becoming more common as more people push boundaries. It’s not acceptable.

sadlittlelifejane · 07/06/2023 13:55

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/06/2023 13:54

False equivalence.

Both are legal 😁

BeachBlondey · 07/06/2023 13:57

If a fully clothed man in the pub had his flies open and his penis hanging out, he would be thrown out or arrested, despite showing less flesh. How can that be right?

theDudesmummy · 07/06/2023 13:59

I have been a naturist for over 30 years and I spend a lot of my summer naked on a famous FKK (naturist) beach (not in the UK). In front of people of all ages. It is fantastic. There is a beach bar with barstools and benches on which people sit naked to have drinks or ice lollies, and yes, you do always sit on a towel or sarong out of courtesy.

The open air restaurant at the beach is great, and lots of people have lunch there. You cannot sit naked in it, you have to put on at least a swimsuit if you want to eat there. Most people put on a sarong/beach dress etc. I would be really unhappy to sit in an indoor pub/restaurant with naked people.

SiobhanSharpe · 07/06/2023 13:59

I wonder what the pub's reaction would be if a couple turned up with the woman in a bikini and the man wearing budgie smugglers.
I think many eating establishments in seaside or holiday areas would expect their clientele to be appropriately dressed for a meal, for reasons of hygiene, safety and the comfort of other diners.
People who draw attention to themselves like this are generally a pain in the arse.
