Bloody dogs in park burst my son's football!!!

Failingatthemoment · 01/06/2023 14:28

6 And 7 year olds playing with their football in the park, bloody dog comes over and grabs the ball and bursts it. No sign of dog owner 2 v upset children.

OP posts:

There are footballs and footballs.

If it was a 2.99 job that bursts when a yorkshire terrier licks it then maybe less need to call out the helicopter gunships.

If it was one of those premier league replica balls very expensive and some massive dog came over and savaged the crap out of the ball I would probably react differently.

It does sound very bad that the owner was not around to take responsibility and IMO a decent person would have had both the dog under control, but in an accident would have offered to pay for the ball.

GeriKellmansUpdo · 01/06/2023 17:04

Has happened. Would depend on the age of the child. If a toddler or young child did it by accident and the parents apologised, I would let it go. If a teen did it on purpose, I would be angry.

But a football is not the same as a car or a window. You know that.

It is to a 6 year old. You know that.

GeriKellmansUpdo · 01/06/2023 17:06

Guess my 6-year-olds weren't all that fussed then. We took cheap balls to the park, not Premier League replica balls.

MasterBeth · 01/06/2023 16:58

No, it's funny. You can't insult a dog for being a dick. That's the joke.

@MasterBeth

That's not a joke. It's just nasty.

MasterBeth · 01/06/2023 17:08

Fair enough. I taught my kids to have respect for their own - and especially other people's - property.

No, it is definitely a joke. You just don't get it.

Think its time for all the dogs to be on lead in public places, some owners just are not aboe to control their “fur babies”.

@Bloopsie well that makes sense! 🙄🙄Punish the ones who do, while the ones who don't will do as they please anyway!

GeriKellmansUpdo · 01/06/2023 17:17

Peak MN. If you are not weeping and shaking over a dog destroying your kid's football, then obviously you must be bringing up your feral kid to disrespect other people's property. 😀

Paperlate · 01/06/2023 17:21

Who is weeping and shaking? Stop making shit up.

The current law states that dogs should be under control in a public place.
A dog puncturing a ball is not under control, therefore it should be on a lead.
The rules are already there.

@MasterBeth

you think you're so funny, you're not.

the owner can read & your reply about her abused & traumatised dog was nasty.

Then the owner should get some resilience and laugh it off

Maybe that dog can read better than you can.

A six year old and a seven year old were upset because a dog burst their football. No mention of weeping or shaking. Certainly no mention that the adult was weeping or shaking.

And it's not the kids or the dog that is feral or disrespectful. It's the inconsiderate dog owner who is the villain of the piece and that so many posters don't seem to be bothered about.

GeriKellmansUpdo · 01/06/2023 17:29

Obviously I am using hyperbole to make a point. But that passive aggressive dig by @MasterBeth " I bring up MY kids to respect other people's property" was a bit nasty. The rest of us don't, of course. We let our kids run about destroying balls, windows and cars, while laughing at dogs.

Seems there are more these days who dont, i go to park with my kids to feed the ducks we end up feeding someones dog instead. We go to beach to a dog free zone and end up dodging poo in the sand and dogs running up to the kids(my autistic child is scared of dogs and runs away causing me to chase my child down the beach),pee on the sand castles
etc.

OP says the 6 and 7 year old were very upset.
I think that is an entirely appropriate response to an animal unexpectedly breaking something you like and were enjoying.
It's also not nice to see a dog clearly breaking something.

Again, you are (deliberately?) misunderstanding.

I am bringing my kids up to respect their own property, so they don't just laugh off things going missing or getting damaged. I want them to look after them and care for them. If a dog comes and bursts their ball, I would think they will get upset. It's perfectly reasonable and OK to be upset.

And I'm bringing them up to respect other people's property so they don't become the kind of adults who would let their dogs run around in a park recklessly, interfering with other people's peaceful enjoyment.

GeriKellmansUpdo · 01/06/2023 17:46

Whatever. I probably belong on Tattle ( though I don't care much that much about Jack Monroe) This is one of those MN things I don't understand, like not opening your front door, being terrified of the school gate "clicky" mums, never eating alone, and such like. Nobody I know IRL is so pressed.

MasterBeth · 01/06/2023 17:50

I hate those Mumsnet wusses too.

But don't let your dog act the cunt.

Imsorrysorry · 01/06/2023 18:02

@AsphaltGirl i think it’s obvious from my post that I wasn’t laughing at the dogs situation. I made that clear and said how disgraceful it is. We laughed about the fact that it was sick on the coat of all the places. We were in a large field but it just happened to stop directly over the coat. What should I do cry myself to sleep over the 1000s of inbred dogs. I do hate it but I have more things to worry about.

johnnydeppsslipper · 01/06/2023 18:18

Not ok at all @ @Failingatthemoment

I have three dogs and am a long term dog owner and it really pisses me off that dog owners think it's ok to let their dogs loose in areas where children are going to be full stop

Dogs don't come above children surely???

If your in a park where there are children dogs should be kept on leads and normally there is signage around stating that in my area which I fully agree with.

If a dog can be far away from its owner to cause an accident that's not being a responsible dog owner.

. I was recently in a real life WhatsApp group and I mentioned something about planning a holiday, and was immediately beseiged with comments like " Well, it's all right for you, but some of us can't afford one".

I left the group. People are angrier these days both IRL and on social media.

other than the above WhatsApp group your on in RL @GeriKellmansUpdo ??

I am a dog owner, dog sitter and massive dog lover.
No dog should be so out of the control and sight of its owner that it can get to and burst a ball in public.
If one comes onto our property it is fair game , but outside - no way.
I fear that there is now a Covid lockdown generation of unsocialised dogs owned by idiots.

People complain about these threads because they get upset about people complaining about dogs.

I dislike many dog owners for many reasons. Eg Including the incident where a dog jumped up at my son who was holding a ball and chatting to his friends. The dog cut his skin through his denim jacket. The owner said the should have been standing holding the ball above his head 🙄

But actually these threads help me because they educate me that there are also owners like you around. Considerate and decent owners who keep their dogs under control. Thank you.

This is classic Mumsnet to be honest. I’ve had time to post today as I’m recovering from surgery but it’s only served to remind me why I usually just lurk and then laugh about it on the Tattle thread. Some of these responses are frankly ridiculous.

That’s pretty tragic. To read a post on here and then run to bitch about it elsewhere. I am embarrassed for you!

So much for being all chilled and not taking stuff seriously! Sounds like MN analysis is a full time job for you!

I always wondered what kind of people hung out at Tattle..

Save your embarrassment it’s certainly not needed here!

it’s actually a great website, but you do need a sense of humour, so it’s not suitable for a lot of posters on here.
