6 And 7 year olds playing with their football in the park, bloody dog comes over and grabs the ball and bursts it. No sign of dog owner 2 v upset children.

Life sometimes happens- sometimes children are children and dogs are dogs- Perhaps change the story to dog bit child.. bit of drama

Why should someone be out of pocket because somebody else's dog damaged their property? Not everyone can afford to replace things on a whim.

I don't love dogs - I'm allergic to them anyway so could never own one. I do find dog owners pretty terrible now though. All so defensive in the face of any criticism of their pooches.

Onefootinthegroove · 01/06/2023 15:32

I am a dog owner, dog sitter and massive dog lover.
No dog should be so out of the control and sight of its owner that it can get to and burst a ball in public.
If one comes onto our property it is fair game , but outside - no way.
I fear that there is now a Covid lockdown generation of unsocialised dogs owned by idiots.

CottagePieLaLaLa · 01/06/2023 15:33

The dog owner should have replaced the ball.

But what if the ball hit a bike resting on a tree/post/bench, said bike hit the ground and got scratched or damaged? Would the child's parent offer to have the bike fixed?

bathty · 01/06/2023 15:33

Can anyone actually tell me what the funny side of having a dog come up and burst your football is?

I suppose you could somehow be laughing at how stupid some dog owners are? Perhaps crying is better though!

Skinnermarink · 01/06/2023 15:35

I think some on this thread might do well to remember that sadly most dog attacks in children are not randomly happening in a park. A bitten football or a piss on a sandcastle probably isn’t a precursor to a previously mischievous dog mauling a child to death in a public space.

Yep, dogs can be very annoying in public spaces and lots of people are terrible and lazy dog owners, that’s true. There should be tighter rules on them in public spaces, definitely.

Still, a bit of perspective wouldn’t go amiss.

bathty · 01/06/2023 15:36

So many kids on here scared of every little thing. Yes annoying and out of order for a dog to burst your ball. Ask for money to get a new one. But how is that scary?

huh?

The deflection on this thread is hilarious. All the shitty dog owners just accept it & at least own it! 😆

Skinnermarink · 01/06/2023 15:37

I don’t have a dog 🤷🏻‍♀️ weird that you think anyone with anything sensible to say must be a dog owner 😂

Summerfun54321 · 01/06/2023 15:38

Inconsiderate twats shouldn't be allowed to own dogs. Unfortunately they are. There is dog shit everywhere on the streets where we live.

Absurd whataboutery.

@coffeecupsandwaxmelts "When I was younger we always took cheap balls etc. to the park and kept the decent stuff for home."

Lucky you to have a garden big enough to play football in!

bathty · 01/06/2023 15:41

@Skinnermarink who are you replying too?

weird that you think I'm talking about you when I quoted a different poster 😆 oops name change fail 🤣🤣

The thing is the ball is burst either way. You can choose to be livid and bitter and twisted about it or you can choose to laugh and get on with having a nice day. People are saying they would choose to get on with having a nice day, that's all. You are free to pick the other option if you would rather.

Nobody is saying that the dog should have burst the ball just that you control your reaction to the burst ball.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 01/06/2023 15:43

I would like to think that the majority of dog owners would be mortified and want to pay for the ball, I know I would be.

Accidents happen, but think that the fact that the owner was nowhere to be seen so couldn't rectify it makes it worse

I didn't have a big garden but I still wasn't allowed to take expensive stuff to the park as we couldn't afford to keep replacing it.

Not sure that's weird - more sensible? 🤷‍♀️

Dogs pissed in my kids shoes at the beach. Owners looked at me, looked at the piss-filled shoes, and walked off without a words. I hate some dog owners.

Urgh that's awful. I remember my beach tennis set getting pissed all over by a dog & the owner couldn't understand why I made a fuss. Erm, might be because I dont want a random dog's piss all over my dc's things.

Successstory82 · 01/06/2023 15:45

Presumably an inflatable ball

Absolem76 · 01/06/2023 15:45

My dts would have giggled. It only a ball
Footballs are expensive, not everyone can afford to replace a burst ball. It isn't funny if you want to play football in the park and now you can't!

Jeannieofthelamp · 01/06/2023 15:46

I can't believe some of the responses on here. This happened to me as a child, I still remember it vividly as being very upsetting and crying my eyes out. 6 year olds are small, a large dog bounding up and grabbing a ball is scary and it's hugely unfair - it's not "just a ball" when you're 6 or 7! I had no fear of dogs and didn't develop one but maybe I did develop an aversion to a certain type of dog owner.

Paperlate · 01/06/2023 15:47

So children are not allowed to be upset about their things being wrecked then? They should just laugh it off?

@YouJustDoYou

come again?

you didn’t say or do a thing?

ExtraOnions · 01/06/2023 15:47

“Fur baby” types incoming … who think you should be honoured that “doggo” burst your football or pissed in your shoes

Successstory82 · 01/06/2023 15:48

you watched a dog piss in your child’s shoe
you watched the owners just walk away

baffling

Justalittlebitduckling · 01/06/2023 15:48

This happened to my friend’s kid at the park the other day. The owner should replace the ball.

User57632678372 · 01/06/2023 15:48

My dog mortifyingly did this twice over the 15 years we had her, we weren’t irresponsible owners we’d just be in an empty field and someone would turn up with a ball and she’d be off like lightening McQueen. We’d always apologise and offer money to replace it though so I do think that should’ve happened here.

Topee · 01/06/2023 15:48

I don’t believe dogs have to be impeccably behaved all the time, they make mistakes just as humans do. As a nation we seem
intolerant of so much nowadays.

What was wrong was the lack of apology and offer of a replacement.
