6 And 7 year olds playing with their football in the park, bloody dog comes over and grabs the ball and bursts it. No sign of dog owner 2 v upset children.

At present they are a public menace. The sheer numbers are incredible, and owners with sense who keep them under control sadly seem a minority.

This has by no means always been the case. It's been since lockdown I've noticed it. I always rather liked dogs up until that point. Now, if at all possible, I avoid them.

It's the fault of the owners, of course.

Your dog sounds like a right dick.

charming way to talk about an abused, traumatised dog!

horrible, unnecessary

It's not ok Confused

Shocked at the dismissive replies. Show me the bold dog owners lol

bathty · 01/06/2023 16:08
  • What if a meteorite hit the dog and the dog bounced into the ball with its mouth open in surprise and accidentally burst the ball?*

😆

Skinnermarink · 01/06/2023 15:08

Well what are you going to do to the actual dog? Make it do community service?

@Skinnermarink

all lined up in little orange jackets!!

Your thread title should be ‘bloody dog owners’ Dogs are following natural behaviour. It’s people in this countr6 who increasingly don’t give a shit about others. 40 years ago people actually showed respect for each other be it with pets, other peoples feelings etc etc.The population is becoming so much more self centred as the years go on.

bathty · 01/06/2023 16:10

It is however a parental responsibility to try and manage their emotions, teach them to see humour in things and not feed into everything being a Greek tragedy. It’s an exhausting way to go through life.

this thread keeps getting better! 😆😆 You must constantly be exhausted @Skinnermarink

I'm a dog owner and I would be hugely apologetic if this happened with my dog. My dog would find a ball being kicked about hard to resist so we wouldn't enter a park with her off lead, and wouldn't release her off her lead unless we felt it's was safe to do so (ie not busy, no on lead dogs around, no picnics and no one playing ball games). This is why we don't walk in parks often, and if we do it's early doors before it gets busy!

If it did happen I would have apologised and exchanged numbers to buy a new ball for the children. Your kids have the right to be sad about their ball being broken.

Absolem76 · 01/06/2023 16:11

accidents happen and taking expensive stuff out to the park means accepting that it could get lost or damaged or stuck up a tree or kicked into a nettle bush etc
Of course accidents happen. But if a child wants to play football they need a proper football and many children don't have gardens where they can play so the park is the only alternative a lightweight plastic ball is no good. My children have never lost a football in a park or got one stuck in a tree I think that's fairly unlikely. If it was kicked in a nettle bush someone would just get it out! And they shouldn't have to worry about dogs biting them either.

@MasterBeth It is quite funny that the 'sensible' advice people seem to be focussing on putting down normal human responses to an annoying/upsetting situation. Policing the response rather than the problem.

Yes, the thing I can't get my head round is the people on here who clearly believe that a dog attacking and destroying a 6 year old's ball in a public place is just some kind of random, accidental, act of God and not the result of an irresponsible owner's lack of care.

And then focusing on the children's reaction as being what's unreasonable, rather than the action of the adult responsible for the dog. (Of course, the dog isn't the dick. The owner is the dick.)

^^ Hooray, responsible dog owners do exist! :)

It's OK, the dog can't read.

bathty · 01/06/2023 16:13

I haven’t named changed in about a year, you loon. You might want to have a sit down and a nice biscuit.

You just keep giving! 🤣🤣 I replied to another poster & you then replied to me! Perhaps you need to stop sitting down & step away from the biscuits...

There's a whole big world out there & you can join in too. Baby steps!

Bellavida99 · 01/06/2023 16:13

A dog did that to my son’s ball at a beach when he was little. Man apologised and asked how much it cost. I said £3 and he gave us £5 to get him an ice cream too as it made him cry.

... 🤔 ...

CoastPath · 01/06/2023 16:16

A few years ago we were just leaving the children's play area in the Park and two dogs ran fast straight at DS, who was about 9 at the time. One of them bit him hard on the leg. The owner claimed it was DS's fault because he was playing with a ball and they wanted to join in. He didn't have a ball and wasn't trying to play with them. We were walking to the exit. The dogs were out of control. We had to go to the doctors to get the bite checked because it had broken his skin. He still has a scar there. We reported the incident to the local PCSO, who cautioned the owner and we got a formal apology from them. They were told to keep their dogs away from that park and to take them to behaviour training classes.

DS, who previously loved dogs, is now a lot more wary around them.

Elevel · 01/06/2023 16:16

@Failingatthemoment Someone has posted on my local Facebook group that their dog burst someone's ball at the park and does anyone know whose it was as they want to buy them a new one... Saw it just before I read this thread, wonder if it's them?!

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 01/06/2023 16:17

My dog loves stealing footballs and plastic cones. And indeed would try to join in with the football. For this reason I don't let him off his lead near kids playing football!

If he did manage to get and damage a ball then i would of course offer to pay. It's concerning that the dog owner didn't have eyes on their dog.

Strawberrydelight78 · 01/06/2023 16:17

The dog probably just wanted to play. But there will be an owner looking for they're dog. If you can keep hold of the dog you will hopefully find the owner who might offer to replace the ball.

Sorry but you sound mad 😂 given me a chuckle this afternoon at least. I was replying to you because you quoted my username in one of your batshit posts.

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 01/06/2023 15:28

Surely the point is it could have been a child rather than a ball.

Hate unaccompanied and uncontrolled dogs!! Ugh.

Yep,sure, every dog that likes playing with a ball is just waiting for it to be a child's head! 🙄🙄🙄

Shufflebumnessie · 01/06/2023 16:21

I would be extremely cross, and would have 2 very unhappy children too, if this had happened to us. To be honest, I'm fed up with dogs/dog owners at the moment as the majority around where we live seem to be completely irresponsible.

bathty · 01/06/2023 16:24

I'm the batshit one! Brilliant 🤣🤣 Look at the nonsense you have written on this thread!

Don't bother replying to me again though, I'm bored of you now. Sadly you're as irrelevant on here as in real life, I hope you do find some peace though!

Or at least see the funny side 🤣🤣🤣
