Your dog sounds like a right dick.

🤣🤣

Charming. The dog can't help it and the owner is managing its behaviour.

CottagePieLaLaLa · 01/06/2023 15:33

The dog owner should have replaced the ball.

But what if the ball hit a bike resting on a tree/post/bench, said bike hit the ground and got scratched or damaged? Would the child's parent offer to have the bike fixed?

What if a meteorite hit the dog and the dog
bounced into the ball with its mouth open in surprise and accidentally burst the ball?

The dog is a dick for acting in a certain way due to past trauma caused by humans?

Do you have unresolved trauma too?

CurlewKate · 01/06/2023 15:51

@Freeballing "The thing is the ball is burst either way. You can choose to be livid and bitter and twisted about it or you can choose to laugh and get on with having a nice day."

There is also the third option. Which is to be justifiably a bit pissed off and expect an apology and an offer to pay before getting on with having a nice day.

Dog owners need to be held responsible for damage done by their pet. Not sure how it can be enforced though, anybody knows how other countries are handling it? Maybe a tag that dogs have to wear that would allow people to report antisocial behaviour and fine the owner? Something that could be scanned from a phone close by.

Absolem76 · 01/06/2023 15:53

When I was younger we always took cheap balls etc. to the park and kept the decent stuff for home.
That is assuming everyone has a garden they can play football in! Many don't. And I see no reason why they should only have cheap balls just in case a dog might destroy in. Dogs should be on a lead in public parks where children are playing

The thing is the ball is burst either way. You can choose to be livid and bitter and twisted about it or you can choose to laugh and get on with having a nice day. People are saying they would choose to get on with having a nice day, that's all. You are free to pick the other option if you would rather.

Nobody is saying that the dog should have burst the ball just that you control your reaction to the burst ball.

I don't think kids should be taught they shoudn't feel upset if something unpleasant happens.

(Of course, you don't dwell on it, but there is no "funny side." It's not funny or cute or adorable if a dog comes up and bursts your ball.)

Yummymummy2020 · 01/06/2023 15:54

People have just lost all manners. The dog damaged someone else’s property therefore the owner should pay for it. No owner in sight, and the dog being a pest off lead is in fact considered out of control by the law. This was told to my mum by a dog warden because my mum was being one of those inconsiderate people and rightly got told off!!!! If my child damaged someone’s property, equally I would expect and insist on replacing it. It’s bloody worse with dogs though lately. And I like them I just cannot stand irresponsible owners that let their dogs run wild!!!

It should see the funny side, according to posters on here.

So children are not allowed to be upset about their things being wrecked then? They should just laugh it off?

You can be upset while also realising it was an accident.

Should the dog have destroyed the ball? No, and of course the owner should have apologised and offered to replace it but not everything in life needs to be a big drama and upset.

sandyhappypeople · 01/06/2023 15:55

I knew someone who had a football assassin dog.. he used to take £10 notes out with him for the compo he'd hand over if it happened!

TeaYarn · 01/06/2023 15:55

The responses are hilarious.

If a dog lover posted about a child bursting their dogs ball there would rioting in the streets!!!!

“Fur baby” types incoming … who think you should be honoured that “doggo” burst your football or pissed in your shoes

Where has anyone said that? I doubt if anyone will say it.

It's not just about having cheap stuff in case a dog destroys it.

It's about realising that accidents happen and taking expensive stuff out to the park means accepting that it could get lost or damaged or stuck up a tree or kicked into a nettle bush etc 🤷‍♀️

It's not just an accident.

An accident is a branch falling off a tree and bursting a ball.

This is an act of negligence by a shitty pet owner who should control their dogs.

Skinnermarink · 01/06/2023 15:58

Well it’s not the child’s reaction that’s the problem necessarily. Toddlers can be ‘devastated’ by something so simple as their toast being cut wrong, for example.

It is however a parental responsibility to try and manage their emotions, teach them to see humour in things and not feed into everything being a Greek tragedy. It’s an exhausting way to go through life.

Mildly irritating, but don’t spend more than five minutes worrying about this.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 01/06/2023 14:49

My dog would do this if someone's football headed our way (now I know, I keep her on the lead if we are anywhere near loose footballs). She does it to "kill" it because, I realise, she considers footballs a painful missile being aimed at the two of us (she is a rescue and was picked up by the dog warden on the streets of inner London). She is also very uneasy if children approach her, as she was clearly tormented by children in her past life. She is ok with older teenagers and adults.

@mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork poor baby girl, I'm glad she's got a loving, safe life with you now 😊

@Failingatthemoment I'm sorry it spoilt your kids fun, useless owner!! But yeah I'd be distracting & rolling my eyes with them about the dog wanting to play too & needing to learn to head or kick the ball! Silly dog will run out of balls & friends!!

xexoro · 01/06/2023 16:03

Skinnermarink · 01/06/2023 15:08

Well what are you going to do to the actual dog? Make it do community service?

Don't be silly.

Much better just to humanely kill the animal (like I did with the rat that ate a hole in my dishwasher hose). No?

Weddingpuzzle · 01/06/2023 16:03

@MasterBeth It is quite funny that the 'sensible' advice people seem to be focussing on putting down normal human responses to an annoying/upsetting situation. Policing the response rather than the problem.
