6 And 7 year olds playing with their football in the park, bloody dog comes over and grabs the ball and bursts it. No sign of dog owner 2 v upset children.

OP posts:
GeriKellmansUpdo · 01/06/2023 16:51

I would have laughed, and my DC would have too. I would also have laughed if a passing child popped it. Life is short.

I am not a dog owner.

as in a beach ball

@Successstory82

why would you decide it's a beach ball when the OP SAID it's a FOOTBALL???

AsphaltGirl · 01/06/2023 16:52

YouJustDoYou · 01/06/2023 15:00

Dogs pissed in my kids shoes at the beach. Owners looked at me, looked at the piss-filled shoes, and walked off without a words. I hate some dog owners.

In the middle of covid when there was a brief relaxation of restrictions we went to the seaside for the day.

I sat down on the "dog-free beach" and about one minute later, a dog (with owners nearby) squatted down a few metres in front of me and did a massive, liquid, diarrhoea shit directly between me and the sea.

I thought I was going to puke. I am so fucking sick of them.

The point that you feel the need to declare how pathetic the responses are but that you usually waste time lurking and reading them just to post on tattle? That's bloody sad, and I love tattle.

Not really seeing the problem ti be honest. A lot of the posts on Mumsnet DO tend to be totally disproportionate to the actual situation. I don’t know many people who react in real life they way to claim to on Mumsnet, or many people as toxic and quick to lash out at strangers, thankfully.

A dog was sick all over my dds coat recently. We were sat having a picnic and it ran over and trampled over the rug then was randomly sick loads of times on the coat that was on the floor next to us. I was really concerned because the dog seemed to be having some sort of medical emergency, it wasn’t breathing well and kept being sick over and over. I didn’t know what to do.
Owner eventually caught up and said sorry and tried to get something to clean the coat. It was no use as it was soaked through and covered. She explained that it’s sick like that because it’s a French bulldog so can’t breath when it runs and needs an operation but can’t have one as it might not recover. Felt sorry for it. Had to bin the coat as even after washing it smelt and dd refused to wear it understandably. It was a new coat to add insult. I was a bit annoyed but it’s life and accidents happen. I didn’t blame the owner or dog. Me and dd did laugh straight afterwards about it. I actually had a laugh with the owner about it later when I saw her again. It was a pretty bizarre situation. We shrugged it off.
I own a dog myself and luckily she wouldn’t chase a ball or anything like that unless invited to and she has great recall etc… it takes work but it’s the responsible thing to do as an owner. I’m very aware when out with her and would not allow her to annoy others or even approach them. She wouldn’t anyway without permission. Not all owners are bad and lots of dogs are well trained still.
I do think humans are a disgrace mind you. Can’t believe we have destroyed a dog so much that it’s sick because it can’t breath. Lots of humans are rude and selfish. You have to shrug it off. People are all drama these days, always annoyed, always outraged and intolerant. Sounds exhausting.

A dog that has been so inbred it can't breathe repeatedly vomited all over your child's new coat and you "had a laugh" with the owner about it?

This is classic Mumsnet to be honest. I’ve had time to post today as I’m recovering from surgery but it’s only served to remind me why I usually just lurk and then laugh about it on the Tattle thread. Some of these responses are frankly ridiculous.

Toddle off back to Tattle then 👋

Zee1345 · 01/06/2023 16:54

Something similar has just happened to my kids but could have been worse.
We was in the field opposite our house and the kids were playing with their ball, my kids are 7 and 5 and my 7 year old daughter was just bouncing her football up and down, I saw on the opposite side of the road ( on the footpath) 2 people walking with a big dog on a lead, I saw the dog just stop and look at my daughter and it starting running so fast towards my daughter that the lead fell out of its owners hand and the dog ran across a main road and was heading towards my daughter.
Naturally after reading all these dog attacks lately and people and kids getting killed by dogs I panicked and screamed my daughters name to come to me, she then saw the dog coming so quickly towards her and got scared so she dropped her ball, and ran to me and burst into tears. The dog luckily went for the ball, and was biting it and popped it ( which I'm not bothered about when I saw it come off the lead and run across a main road towards my daughter I just saw the worst and was terrified) one of the owners just kept saying " I'm so sorry but he wasn't going to bite her", I was trying to calm my daughter down but at the end of the day the dog was aggressive and came off the lead with such force the lead fell out of its owners hand and it ran across a main road if a car was coming at that moment it would have been hit by a car too and at the end of the day after all that if my daughter hadn't moved out the way in time who knows what the dog could have done to her. I just took the kids and took them home because I was a bit shaken and my daughter was upset.
At the end of the day as other posters have said its just a ball and can be replaced and with all the stories on the news about dog attacks it could have been much worse, when this happened today when I saw the dog coming towards my daughter like that accross the road I just thought the worst was about to happen so I really don't and wouldn't worry about the ball being popped although it's frustrating.

😂😂😂 sure, I will now you’ve said that, you speak for the whole of an anonymous internet forum.

I am quite astonished at the posters who would hang on to the dog and demand the owner pay up.

Neither do I, but if I found it so ridiculous I felt the need to comment and not keep it on tattle (tut tut) then I wouldn't feel the need to declare it on a thread about dogs and balls.

@MasterBeth

you think you're so funny, you're not.

the owner can read & your reply about her abused & traumatised dog was nasty.

No, it's funny. You can't insult a dog for being a dick. That's the joke.

MeridianB · 01/06/2023 16:58

olympicsrock · 01/06/2023 15:03

Not ok. Owner dog owner needs to pay for a new ball and apologise ( and not let it off the lead where they can’t see what it is doing)

This.

So many dogs with terrible owners who don't care. It's not good enough.

I bet you wouldn't of and I bet you do and an irresponsible one too. Funny how everyone who would find it hilarious either is scared of dogs or doesn't own one..bloody liars. Too many of on mn are clearly the irresponsible dog owners that's why there is so much unreasonable support for people who shouldn't own dogs.

Bloopsie · 01/06/2023 17:00

Think its time for all the dogs to be on lead in public places, some owners just are not aboe to control their “fur babies”.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 01/06/2023 17:00

Would you laugh if a child grabbed it and ran off with it and or popped it? no you likely wouldn't.

It depends. Is the child a toddler and messing about/playing, or is if an older child doing it deliberately and being unpleasant?

Because the dog in this scenario was just playing - he didn't set out this morning to make a small child cry 🙄

Yes, the owner should apologise and offer to replace the ball but it doesn't need to be such a huge deal.

So if the ball got burst accidentally then yes, I would laugh it off because accidents happen and not everything in life needs to be a big drama. If it was done on purpose by an older child being mean or unpleasant then it's a totally different scenario.

What if a passing child kicked a ball against your car and dented it? Or smashed a window?

Ho! Ho! Life is short.

I really don't have a dog. What an odd post. You can like dogs without having them, you know.

Or maybe I prefer to save my disproportionate fury for other things.

Pacflan · 01/06/2023 17:03

I'd be annoyed at this but not make it a big deal in front of my child, I would find it selfish for the owner not to acknowledge it though even if they didn't offer to replace it. If my child somehow ruined/popped/whatever to someone's property I'd be mortified and would apologise.

Has happened. Would depend on the age of the child. If a toddler or young child did it by accident and the parents apologised, I would let it go. If a teen did it on purpose, I would be angry.

But a football is not the same as a car or a window. You know that.
