The problem with Brexit is we didn't Brexit hard enough

The EU itself was just the start.

But there are still more institutions which still influence our laws and make it impossible to actually achieve "taking back control".

If anything, we've left the trading bloc (which had economic benefits) but stayed in many of the legal institutions (which retain control over us).

So which body do we leave next - the ECHR? The ECJ? Keenly awaiting responses 😘

I guess this is probably how the morons who voted to leave would see things. It seems to me though, that the only thing standing in the way of the Tories stripping away all of my rights is EU legislation.

JammyThing · 01/06/2023 08:00

Yeah. THAT'S the problem. 🙄

Kokopenny · 01/06/2023 08:01

Absolute shit show

bellac11 · 01/06/2023 08:01

Yes, lets make the country even more unpleasant, ineffective, not fit for purpose.

I cant wait.

Every word of this.

Sandylanes69 · 01/06/2023 08:03

I think you should have the whole island towed into the middle of the Atlantic.

FixTheBone · 01/06/2023 08:10

I'll humour you.....

Please tell us how you think 'leaving the ECHR or ECJ' benefits the average, or indeed any UK citizen...

The fact sunak is in Moldova today, begging the EU to help with the 'immigration problem' that even having 'taken back control' we can't control is somewhere between hilarious and depressingly pathetic.

Posts like this

'this isn't the brexit we voted for' from brexiteers are a pathetic lack of ownership of their own ill-informed decision making and lack of insight, as, every remainer will tell you, this is exactly the brexit we voted against.

pointythings · 01/06/2023 08:13

I think OP may not be entirely serious. But yes, let's go full North Korea and see how that goes. ECHR, UN and all its branches, NATO, WTO, WHO - I am sure there are people out there who would love to ditch them all.

Fully agree.

Hmmm - having observed sewerage in the sea this weekend- south coast - I can only say bring back EU standards asap. UK is currently like the Wild West .

Absolutely. The UK just doesn't work anymore. It only works for the rich, everyone else is pretty well screwed. All of our services, all of our utilities, our natural environment, everything seems to be fair game for the tory friends money mill. If I think about it too much it makes me cry with frustration and anger. And then you have people on the libdem thread (which I couldn't read much of) bleating on about nick clegg and women with penises (penai?) as reasons to keep voting tory. 😞

ichundich · 01/06/2023 08:56

I think we should leave the world OP.

Brexiteers were famous for saying "if you don't like this country you're free to move elsewhere" which was somewhat ironic considering they were the one's who were campaigning to change the very nature of our way of life.

Not content with turning the country into a laughing stock and making 95% of us poorer they now seem to want to grind the UK into the dust and ensure the population are nothing more than serfs at the beck and call of the elite (which is an odd goal considering most brexiteers will fall into serf category but maybe they genuinely yearn for a return to workhouses and cholera?±).

I really wish they'd take their own advice and leave if they're not happy instead of trying to ruin this country even more than they already have.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 01/06/2023 08:59

Oh dear Nigel, for all our sakes, please just accept that your life’s work has been futile.

100% OP... we need to break free from the idea that if things don't go well for us in the UK, its because of UK Govt... its not, we are the greatest island 22 miles away from France, there is no island better that is so close to france.

We simply don't mis manage or have ineffective corrupt Govt, its the EU and others fault NOT ours.

Leave the ECHR, the UN and NATO... theses are the real culprits to why we are a failed nation and lets Make Britain Great Again.

What will the ERG do when there's nobody left to blame?

Cool story.

Typical brexiteer moving nothing about anything.

ECHR is nothing to do with the EU and therefore nothing to do with brexit. It is just a right wing wet dream to get rid of the post-wat human rights settlement that we created because they want to shit on working people more.

We are not under the jurisdiction of the ECJ save the specific previsions under the NI protocol. Unless you live in NI we have "left" the ECJ as it is the EU's court.

People have spent that last 8 years patiently explaining this to brexiteers but they don't get it either because they are thick or because it is in their interests to conflate the ECHR with the EU and lie about the role the ECJ has post-brexit.

<Yawn>

The 'morons' you refer to would be most of the people in the UK. Perhaps your GP, your neighbours, even family and friends.

We had a referendum you see and by voting in it you accepted it as valid.

Also it must have escaped your notice that we elected the Tories to run the country on purpose. It's not a lottery or a dictatorship. We have this voting thing here and every citizen gets to choose.

If you're unhappy with the government you should vote for another one. Not whine that some other country should be allowed to override our choices.

Personally I think morons (when it comes to political Nous and business sense is pretty accurate ) and uk is stuffed full of them. Neighbours, family , friends

And voting patterns have changed- see local elections for details but this bunch will hang on to grim death bleeding the public finances to bolster up theirs and their mates bank accounts. They know they are toast
