Brexit was a disaster. So why don't people vote Lib Dem?

worldstillturns · 31/05/2023 20:18

Now that the people who voted Brexit are realising they were lied to, what is the point of them swinging back to Labour - a party which consistently evaded taking a coherent stance on Brexit for fear of losing certain voters? How are they any better than the Tories on this issue? The Lib Dems were and still are the only party with an anti-Brexit policy. AIBU to think Labour have shown themselves to be just as disingenuous and full of 'career politicians' as the Tories? At least the Lib Dems were honest and straightforward on this issue?

So which one of our great party leaders is actually prepared to make a definitive statement on what a woman is? None of them, as far as I can tell. They are all as bad as each other on this.

Rishi Sunak has recently. Pink News were not impressed

Well I'm not a Tory (currently very much homeless on the political front) but in answer to your question Rishi Sunak said 100% of women don't have a penis, which is a pretty good start

caringcarer · 31/05/2023 21:38

Davey says some women clearly have a penis. Stupid what?

verdantverdure · 31/05/2023 21:39

Nick Clegg isn't an issue due he because he's no longer in the party is he?

I expect the Lib Dems will be our best bet for voting tactically in our Tory heartland constituency and in my parents in the New Forest.

I will vote Labour if the polls etc suggest they have more chance of beating our Tory MP.

ManyATrueWord · 31/05/2023 21:39

The Lib Dems hate women.
The Libe Dems says prostitution is work and should be legalized.
The Lib Dems took money from pharma that push transexualism.
The Lib Dems ignored safeguarding -Aimee Challenor, yes. But also general women and children safeguarding.
The Lib Dems continually vote to remove women's safe spaces - see Cambridge Lib Dem council and their illegal acts.
The Lib Dems threw away everything for power with the Tories.
The Lib Dems refuse to admit they did anything wrong and make out it was all Nick Clegg.

caringcarer · 31/05/2023 21:40

I'm so angry I can't vote Labour because Kier does not know what a woman is, Davey thinks some women clearly have a penis and I hate snake Sunak so for the first time since I was 18 I won't vote.

Mum2jenny · 31/05/2023 21:40

No way could I vote LibDems, as it’s a total waste of a vote where I live. Straight run of Labour or Conservative or spoil the ballot paper

NotMyMill · 31/05/2023 21:41

FasterthanBolt · 31/05/2023 20:20

Cos I have never forgiven Nick Clegg for going back on practically every Lib Dem promise when he went into a coalition with the Torys

This. They had it in their manifesto to cancel student loan then they actual helped the tories hike them to the highest rate they’d ever been at. They seem quite unprincipled- not that any of the parties are beacons of morality but I feel Lib Dem’s literally jump on any bandwagon.

worldstillturns · 31/05/2023 21:42

I haven't heard Starmer bring himself to state what a woman is?

There is a war on women and children. And they are leading it.

Yes this. A great pity Sharron Davies does not stand. She would get a lot of votes.

Because I worked for Connexions in 2010 - for all it's faults the universal service for young people did a lot of very positive things - including crime prevention/edge of care support/youth clubs/NEET support/help for young people in poverty crisis AND universal, impartial careers advice for young people - one of the very first thing that shower of shits and their friends did is get rid of us and the 'Every Child Matters' agenda (sure start/book start etc) - they have, as a result, removed vital support services for young people and their families - I will never forgive them for choosing power over the good of the people of this country

and they think woman have cocks

I remember those services, I can’t believe how fast the torydems moved to eradicate them.

In what way do uou think Brexit has been a disaster?

worldstillturns · 31/05/2023 21:49

I have three teens who alarmingly, don't seem to know what a woman is either. It's the zeitgeist of cancel culture. But they'll realise soon enough.

Don't disagree with what others are saying about identification of women. Bringing it back to your original position though OP. Can you not see that the lib Dems put Cameron into position to set the Brexit nightmare in motion. They can oppose it all they like. They enabled it. I wouldn't vote for them again ever for the crap that went off after 2010 and I'm as anti-Brexit as you can get.

memoriesofamiga · 31/05/2023 21:51

The arguments for why people don't vote lib dem have been listed here multiple times and more eloquently than I could.

My Grandad was a hard working true lib dem Councillor for 25 years and lost his seat after the lib dems got in with the tories thanks to Clegg. He was devastated and remains so with how the party has turned into tory-lite. Interestingly his local constituents were then unhappy with how things were being run and wanted him to pick up their complaints. Which he refused of course. The lib dems betrayed their hard working local representatives to get in bed with the tories and for that pathetic power grab I would never vote for them again.

Because they won't win. I want green. They won't win. So all I get to choose is Tory or not Tory (labour).

I would probably vote Green if I didn't think getting the Tories out was top priority.

Looking at the increase in Green councillors I think the time when we start having more than one Green MP is coming.

What is Starmer's position on 'what is a woman' though? What is his view on Brexit? He just sits on the fence. What was Corbyn's view on Brexit for that matter? He was supposedly the leader of the opposition, yet never saw fit to take a stance on the most important vote in a generation. You couldn't make it up. Diabolical. Labour did nothing to prevent Brexit and they are just as bad as the Tories. Still today, they shirk and evade the issue.

Corbyn has always been anti - EU because cheap labour coming from Europe reduces wages for the working class. That has been widely discussed in the press. Starmer is a bit more vague but his general policy is to remain out but have a trade agreement that means we are effectively in ... Better than the current situation but not as good as our previous situation.

70sTomboy · 31/05/2023 22:08

I want to vote for a party that actually wants to sort out homelessness, enable and normalise social housing builds, the necessary health services to enable people to stay housed. Reducing the need for private landlords receiving payments.
I want to vote for a party that will overhaul our police and make it attractive job prospect for decent people, not rotten apples.
I want to vote for a party that values education for all from the lowest ability to the highest and pays teachers to attract the best.
I want to vote for a party that knows what men and women are. If you don't know, you shouldn't be left to run a tap, never mind a country.

SnackSizeRaisin · 31/05/2023 22:10

Yes, this is the problem due to the first past the post system. If we had proportional representation then we could vote for any party and votes would not be wasted if not for the main 1 or 2 parties in any particular constituency. I live in an area that's strongly labour. I support labour but my vote is equally pointless as there's no further benefit once more than about 40% have voted labour (it's usually more like 80% labour here)

mycoffeecup · 31/05/2023 22:10

You want me to vote for a party whose leader thinks that 'Clearly, a woman can have a penis?'

Justcallmebebes · 31/05/2023 22:11

Ed Davey
