Have covid and attend outdoor event, would you go?

Tested positive for covid on Friday after feeling rough for a few days but just thought it was a head cold, was pretty surprised when that red line appeared! Felt much better yesterday and this morning. There’s an outdoors music festival on today, which I’d ruled out since said red line but friends (ones that were, 3 years ago, very freaked out by the whole thing, rule abiding, social distancing fanatics etc) are like “it’s fine just go, it’s just a cold now” etc! But I feel uncomfortable about it. Obviously I wouldn’t hug anyone or cough on them (bit of a cough still!) wwyd? Would you still go?

Absolutely not. People with compromised immune systems could die If they get covid.

pyjamalife · 28/05/2023 07:05

No. If I knew I had Covid, I would still isolate.

Also, what's the point in testing if you're going to ignore the result and be irresponsible to others?

Lullibyebye · 28/05/2023 07:08

I would still go.

Lemonpepper · 28/05/2023 07:09

I don't know anyone who tests anymore so how would anyone ever know if they had covid or a case of the sniffles? I don't understand why you've tested if not to cancel your plans upon finding out you're positive.

At some point even the remnants of those testing, like yourself, will no longer test. We move on.

Boardname · 28/05/2023 07:11

Realistically hardly anyone tests anymore, plenty of people are roaming around with covid I expect. If you feel alright and are mindful as you would be anyway- washing hands, not coughing and sneezing everywhere without attempting to cover your mouth and nose etc then meh.

SomeNights · 28/05/2023 07:13

No. Being outdoor lessens some of the risks but in a busy music festival you could still give it to hundreds or thousands of people.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 28/05/2023 07:13

I wouldn't have tested so yes, I'd have gone and I suspect the vast majority of people are the same nowadays.

Mydietstartstomorrow · 28/05/2023 07:14

I tested as I was having a minor medical procedure done (which was then cancelled) otherwise I wouldn’t have known as I thought it was just a head cold or a proper kick off of pollen allergies!

Yes probably, if I was feeling well and felt I was pretty much at the end of the infection.

JC89 · 28/05/2023 07:17

No - you know you have COVID and are probably infectious (unless you test this morning and come come back negative) - it might be outside but a music festival would be crowded - you'll be close to the same people for an extended period. Yes for most people it's like a bad cold but for others it is still serious.

ButterCrackers · 28/05/2023 07:18

I’d stay home until negative. Some people have illnesses and would be really unwell with covid so I wouldn’t want to pass it on. I also wouldn’t like to think I’d passed it on to others knowingly.

AppleKatie · 28/05/2023 07:18

I’m a massive hypocrite but no I wouldn’t go knowingly. I wouldn’t know though as I wouldn’t test for a ‘head cold’.

FrostyFifi · 28/05/2023 07:18

If you hadn't tested you'd have gone do what's the difference?

x2boys · 28/05/2023 07:19

Well there are no rules and realistically most people don't test any more ,lots of people will probably have vivid and or other virus,s they are unaware of.

x2boys · 28/05/2023 07:20

Covid*

Oysterbabe · 28/05/2023 07:21

I would go, but then I wouldn't have tested.

Pepperama · 28/05/2023 07:21

I’d go to outdoors events where you can stay well away from people but not a music festival where you’d be in very close proximity. It’s not just a cold even if for many it’s just feeling a bit rough - but colds can’t give you long Covid and debilitate you for years and there’s a million people with long term problems, half of them so they can’t live their normal lives. No one knows what makes some covid infections lead to long Covid and not others, and until we do I’d like folk to be sensible about staying off work/away from crowded spaces

Motheranddaughter · 28/05/2023 07:22

I would definitely go

Absolutely not. People with compromised immune systems could die If they get covid.

Those people are probably not at a music festival though, are they? As in, a place swarming with people at close quarters who could have any number of diseases dangerous to people with compromised immune systems.

RampantIvy · 28/05/2023 07:23

If it is Slam Dunk in Leeds please don't.

QueenofLouisiana · 28/05/2023 07:24

No. I tested positive on Thursday and again yesterday. I’m isolating and even staying distanced from DH and DS.

I’ve had severe stomach issues for a week from it (should have tested earlier, didn’t realise it causes stomach problems). I wouldn’t want anyone to catch it from me.

I’ll test again tomorrow.

IAmTheWalrus85 · 28/05/2023 07:29

I’d probably go tbh. If you tested positive on Friday after feeling ill for a few days then you’re probably reaching the end of the infection anyway. And the risk of outdoor transmission is pretty low anyway. A couple of years ago when Covid drama was still a thing I spent all day at a family barbecue hugging people when I had it (tested positive that evening). I was so worried but not one single person there caught it from me.

Gtsr443 · 28/05/2023 07:31

No. Even if it was "just" something else I wouldn't go.
Why make others ill when you know you are contagious?

Their friends and family might be though?

Maebh9 · 28/05/2023 07:33

My partner has an autoimmune condition. He caught covid from someone at work who knew they had it. The consequences were very severe and have probably shortened his life expectancy by several years. It would have been better if the woman had just punched him right in the face.

I was never into the covid panic and restrictions - it caused so much severe harm - but don't be a bloody arsehole by going to an optional event when you're effectively a biological weapon.
