Have covid and attend outdoor event, would you go?

Tested positive for covid on Friday after feeling rough for a few days but just thought it was a head cold, was pretty surprised when that red line appeared! Felt much better yesterday and this morning. There’s an outdoors music festival on today, which I’d ruled out since said red line but friends (ones that were, 3 years ago, very freaked out by the whole thing, rule abiding, social distancing fanatics etc) are like “it’s fine just go, it’s just a cold now” etc! But I feel uncomfortable about it. Obviously I wouldn’t hug anyone or cough on them (bit of a cough still!) wwyd? Would you still go?

There are likely to be lots of young people at the festival who are in the middle of their exams. On that basis alone, I wouldn't go.

grayhairdontcare · 28/05/2023 12:26

@Maebh9 you keep living in fear and staying in.
The rest of the world and guidelines have moved on.
It's not 2020 anymore

Do you really think these 'young people' are surrounded by others in school and university who are scrupulously testing and isolating? Seems rather unlikely.

Wow. So should people will illnesses spend all their life having the soul sucked out of them alone in a darkened space

It is entirely their perogative. But they should not expect others to hide away for them.

What would be a few days for a healthy person to stay away from places where infection can be spread is a life time for the CEV

QueenofKattegat · 28/05/2023 14:10

Yes, I would go.

Bbqshowdownusa · 28/05/2023 07:48

Yes I’d absolutely go. Im not staying in doors and missing events over something as minor as covid anymore.

You don’t have to stay in doors and waste your life away anymore. Go out and live.

Roughly translates as "I don't give a fuck about passing infection to other people"

If I knew I had covid or flu for that matter, I wouldn't be going.

Busbygirl · 28/05/2023 14:31

I work in a large city hospital one morning a week.
They’ve got rid of all masks and are just getting on with things.
We have to live with this thing now. Of course you should go.

ilovesooty · 28/05/2023 14:38

I've just seen that you're negative now
There doesn't seem to be any reason not to go if you feel OK.

RampantIvy · 28/05/2023 14:55

Glad you're feeling better @Mydietstartstomorrow

stayathomer · 28/05/2023 14:59

If you tested then there’s your answer- if it’s ‘just a cold now’ then why test at all? I wouldn’t because it would be pretty shit if someone got Covid around the summer holidays because I decided to go to a festival. Yes it probably won’t hugely impact them, but it could halt their holiday or them meeting with someone (my mum has a condition and if we have any form of a cold, flu, bug, we have to stay away, has been that was since 2018)

stayathomer · 28/05/2023 15:01

but op did test!

But the vast majority don't. And given that this illness usually creates few or mild symptoms in the young, it's extremely likely that all these 'young people' will have been exposed to it multiple times already in their lecture halls, dorms, entertainment venues and so on.

barmycatmum · 28/05/2023 07:04

Absolutely not. People with compromised immune systems could die If they get covid.

That’s me your talking about and I wouldn’t be going to an outdoor concert.

It’s my responsibility to keep myself safe, as much as it sucks having to wear my mask all the time, that’s what I do as well as not going to high risk places if I can help it.

I would go OP!

She explained why she tested

Badbudgeter · 28/05/2023 15:44

Hardly anyone cares anymore. I have to test for one of my jobs (carehome) and came up positive. Took time off unpaid. Other two employers said I could wear a mask when with others but if well to come to work.

I appreciate there are vulnerable people but if you are at a crowded event then you can guarantee there will be people there who have a variety of communicable diseases.

It’s all a bit disgusting really. This why I don’t go to crowded events as the world is full of folk who don’t wash their hands after the loo or cough without covering.

SwordToFlamethrower · 28/05/2023 10:52

If you're ill, you stay home. Any illness.

Even if this advice were remotely realistic and not utterly mired in privilege, the OP isn't ill.

Soapyspuds · 28/05/2023 17:35

This sounds like a once yearly event, not just something that can be attentded any weekend.

Really are we still on this?

OP just go it'll be fine and YANBU

SleepyRich · 28/05/2023 18:15

If you feel well then just go. I don't test anymore, but officially I'm allowed to go work as a Paramedic covid positive, so long as I feel well enough to work. I wouldn't even be required to wear a mask, all restrictions are done with. So if I'm allowed to wonder the halls of a care home coid positive I wouldnt judge anyone for going to an outdoor event.

Lcb123 · 28/05/2023 18:22

I really hope you went. Can’t believe anyone still tests.

Frabbits · 28/05/2023 18:24

Transmitting enough viral load to another person outdoors for them to actually get ill is pretty much impossible unless you stand and breath directly into their mouths.

The OP updated why she tested.

Gcsunnyside23 · 28/05/2023 21:52

Okshacky · 28/05/2023 10:58

@Gcsunnyside23 perhaps you didn’t read the pre-appointment paperwork? I certainly was asked to ten days ago and @Mydietstartstomorrow says in her posts that’s why she tested. Perhaps it depends on the type of hospital you are attending?

No I definitely didn't need to, there was nothing on paperwork and I checked when I arrived if I should be wearing a mask or doing tests and I was told no it was fine. It was the major hospital in my city and the hospital my friend has surgery in was another nearby city. Considering staff in hospitals don't need to isolate and stay off work is most likely the reason why it's pointless making everyone else test

Okshacky · 28/05/2023 21:58

Here all routine X-rays etc are done in the nightingale and at the main hospital you have to test before procedures.
