Have covid and attend outdoor event, would you go?

Tested positive for covid on Friday after feeling rough for a few days but just thought it was a head cold, was pretty surprised when that red line appeared! Felt much better yesterday and this morning. There’s an outdoors music festival on today, which I’d ruled out since said red line but friends (ones that were, 3 years ago, very freaked out by the whole thing, rule abiding, social distancing fanatics etc) are like “it’s fine just go, it’s just a cold now” etc! But I feel uncomfortable about it. Obviously I wouldn’t hug anyone or cough on them (bit of a cough still!) wwyd? Would you still go?

I'd test on the day and if negative I would go. If not, I wouldn't.

@VenAqui

your work situation has nothing to do with a festival except you're more likely to be positive than others.

vaccinations wear off, that argument will only be valid when the make one that last many years or forever.

It demonstrates that’s just most people’s reality now. You really don’t know who you’re mingling with. So it actually has everything to do with it.

Soapyspuds · 28/05/2023 08:00

@ThirstyThursday

and should they also stop their partners & children from going

It depends how bad they are immunocompromised. But you should expect your children to consider at least a parents medical condition, you cannot expect random unknowns to mitigate for you. This is 2023 and live has moved on.

Yes, it's 2023, it STILL doesn't mean you should go to a crowded public event knowing you have covid (or a number of other things).

morals & responsibility still exist (amongst some if s anyway).

Pottedpalm · 28/05/2023 08:10

I would go; you are free to resume normal activities if you feel well enough. Most people are not testing any more so there may well be people on the bus or in the queue who have covid. Those who are immunocompromised and their families and friends have to take their own precautions.

barmycatmum · 28/05/2023 08:10

GreenWheat · 28/05/2023 07:23

Those people are probably not at a music festival though, are they? As in, a place swarming with people at close quarters who could have any number of diseases dangerous to people with compromised immune systems.

I don’t know, but I’m not so selfish as to try to fucking do mental gymnastics around going to a crowded place knowingly with something that has killed people. FFS.

so selfish

You're out of order and completely missing the point of this thread. Wind your neck in.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/05/2023 08:12

The guidance is to stay at home if possible if you have Covid symptoms, so in your shoes I would stay at home.

However, I'm fully aware that loads of people are walking around with Covid without knowing, so I wouldn't judge anyone who did go out with Covid.

Wishawisha · 28/05/2023 08:12

Lemonpepper · 28/05/2023 07:09

I don't know anyone who tests anymore so how would anyone ever know if they had covid or a case of the sniffles? I don't understand why you've tested if not to cancel your plans upon finding out you're positive.

At some point even the remnants of those testing, like yourself, will no longer test. We move on.

Yes I don’t understand why you’d test and then decide to go out and about. It’s nonsensical.

threelionsonashirt · 28/05/2023 08:12

I personally wouldn't attend. But you are not breaking any rules if you do and you don't have to isolate anymore.

Emptycrackedcup · 28/05/2023 08:14

No, because I'm not an ahole. I also wouldn't go if I had a bad cold and thought I was infectious. I hate being sick and would hate to make someone else sick

Okshacky · 28/05/2023 08:15

Bbqshowdownusa · 28/05/2023 07:56

I never said it was the same. I said I compare it to the common cold.

because for me that’s all it is.

Im not stopping my life for something so minor.

It’s not “stopping your life” to avoid infecting people when you have a contagious disease. Would you go out and about with German measles? It’s not like you don’t know the impact of disease is it? Do you think it’s ok really?😱

crumpet · 28/05/2023 08:16

I wouldn’t go, no. Had it recently for the first time and it was very unpleasant. I wouldn’t choose to deliberately put myself in an environment where I might inflict that one someone else.

Glitterblue · 28/05/2023 08:16

I wouldn’t knowingly go. It’s selfish - there are still many people with compromised immune systems who could get really unwell with it.

I wouldn’t tbh. I had Covid recently and it floored me. I’m not vulnerable or anything. Im usually made of pretty tough stuff but Im a single Parent carer and it fucked my life up for a good few weeks.

Test again on the day. If it’s negative, go.

neilyoungismyhero · 28/05/2023 08:17

FrostyFifi · 28/05/2023 07:18

If you hadn't tested you'd have gone do what's the difference?

She did test and the OP knows. Big difference

ohtowinthelottery · 28/05/2023 08:18

I can't believe so many people are in the 'don't go camp'.
Have you not moved on at all in the last 3 years?

We were extremely cautious for the duration because DH works with clinically vulnerable people. But now we are getting on with life as normal. DH (who tested regularly well after it was no longer required by the guidance) has long since stopped testing - as has everyone who enters his workplace.

At a small local 'bring your own chairs' type festival in a park, it should be easy enough to keep a safe distance from people outside of your group. If you feel well enough to go, then go.

Of course it is. It’s putting your life on hold for something that doesn’t effect you.

missing out on things that you want to enjoy when you don’t have too.

The advice with measles is to stay in, it’s not the same advice for covid.

Thrownbackinmyface · 28/05/2023 08:18

Pretty sure we all have it currently but I haven’t got any tests so we are treating it as a bad cold/bad viral infection and carrying on with life

SpeedReader · 28/05/2023 08:19

I would not go.

This is not an essential outing. I'd stay away from others until I've tested negative. If I had to head out for anything essential (and felt well enough to do so), I'd wear an N95 mask.

I know that lots of people have given up testing as they think Covid is "just a cold". I am also sure that there are lots of asymptomatic people out in public all the time. But that doesn't change my personal evaluation about the long-term risks of Covid infection – risks that we are only beginning to understand. I have no desire to be repeatedly infected myself, so one easy thing I can do is to stay home whilst positive. I know this is not easy for everyone (for instance, I can more readily work from home), but at the very least we don't need to go on concerts, shows and restaurants when still returning a positive RAT!

Wishawisha · 28/05/2023 08:19

Mydietstartstomorrow · 28/05/2023 07:14

I tested as I was having a minor medical procedure done (which was then cancelled) otherwise I wouldn’t have known as I thought it was just a head cold or a proper kick off of pollen allergies!

Interesting. I wonder if different hospitals have different rules?
I’ve accompanied DC to hospital a few times in the last few months and have another follow up due soon. In no pre-op documents or our appointment booking confirmations have we been asked to test.

I would if we were asked but it’s never come up.

Soapyspuds · 28/05/2023 08:19

Would you go out and about with German measles

Firstly German Measles is more deadly
Secondly the Covid is already rife in the population

Not a valid comparison.

peachicecream · 28/05/2023 08:19

RampantIvy · 28/05/2023 07:23

If it is Slam Dunk in Leeds please don't.

What a weird comment. I assume you're going to that festival and don't want to personally catch it. But why not just say don't do it anyway?

It's pretty irresponsible to go to a music festival if you have Covid, period.

How have I ruined people’s lives for 2 years ffs?! I stuck by the rules and social distanced as most people did! Get over yourself! If you didn’t then you’re probably more to blame than I am! Jesus ! 🙄

I wouldn’t go. Last time I had covid it drained my energy and i felt so weak, and it took weeks to recover.

Why would I go out and potentially make others feel that way (or worse?)
