Time to cancel that Netflix sub

This is really piss poor of Netflix and pure price gouging in action imo.

Am going to cancel and sign up to Disney plus instead.

Not at all. Of course you should pay for what your using. It’s like paying for half if your family at AL holiday but letting them all eat and drink the hotel stuff.

Sissynova · 26/05/2023 16:41

I mean it’s entirely logical and I’m amazed that it’s gone on for as long as it has allowing multiple people to use only one login.

I’m sure it won’t be possible on Disney soon, if even is now. They definitely don’t ‘allow’ password sharing either.

ItsNotRocketSalad · 26/05/2023 16:41

I really don't get the outrage about this. Why do you think multiple households should share one subscription?

Crikeyalmighty · 26/05/2023 16:42

I agree with them- it's a business not a community service

yepgoingforarun · 26/05/2023 16:43

My ex, who I used to piggy back on his Netflix account, just sent me an invite yesterday so then I still get to piggy back but it’s formalised ie I still don’t pay

seems totally reasonable to me even if they were to have made me pay!

but you head off to Disney (it’s shit. I’m planning on cancelling)

MayBeeJuneSoon · 26/05/2023 16:43

I agree with them too

What's the issue op?

It’s not even, since Netflix allows your family members to use the account on their phone/laptop/bedroom tv etc, what it doesn’t allow is multiple different households all using the same account.
So it’s like being at a hotel but thinking your friends, coworkers and other random people should be able to eat all day because you paid for yourself.

RoseAdage · 26/05/2023 16:44

It's always been limited to a household- they just haven't enforced it before. Amazed anyone has an issue with this.

Tinkerbyebye · 26/05/2023 16:44

It’s a business people have in reality been stealing from them by sharing the password so they are tightening the rules

tough cheese on those who now have to pay

Although it costs £4.99 to add someone not in your household

I just wonder how they are going to gauge it tbh

How do they know someone outside the household is watching?

GasPanic · 26/05/2023 16:46

I think it's fair.

The question is how they will manage to police it.

I think they should sell subscriptions on the basis of simultaneous streams (maybe they do).

If you subscribe to a stream, anyone should be able to view it from anywhere, but only the number of streams you subscribe to simultaneously.

PuttingDownRoots · 26/05/2023 16:47

One account for one household seems fair.

We ate slightly worried that Netflix might think we are cheaters, because DH works at the opposite end of the country. But he brings the device he uses it on home a couple of times a month.

IP addresses. They uniquely identify your router’s traffic, so if the logic is used at another IP they’ll know.

See my answer above - it’s very easy to police with how the internet works

But again that won’t work. What about when you’re travelling?

or say you have children that move between parents on a weekly basis.

I work away so use mine at two different addresses? How will that work?

ItsNotWhatItsNot · 26/05/2023 16:51

We cancelled ours, had been giving them £20 a month (I think) for up to 4 screens.
they used to encourage customers to share their password, so to backtrack so hugely is pathetic.

sadieshavingashindig · 26/05/2023 16:51

Genuinely don't understand your problem. They're offering a service that you want, but you want it without having to pay for it?

1987qwerty · 26/05/2023 16:51

Bye

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 26/05/2023 16:54

Hmm... the Netflix account we use was set up by ex using his email address on an Apple ID that has since become solely mine. I pay the subs and manages account ( parental controls etc) but he still has a profile that he uses and he's based at other end of country... would quite like an excuse to set up my own tbh without seeming petty...also eldest will be heading off to uni shortly... will he be one a different household at that point? He'll still be home in holidays....
