This is really piss poor of Netflix and pure price gouging in action imo.

Am going to cancel and sign up to Disney plus instead.

they will have to invent some detector vans to fool us into thinking that they are able to police this!

stayathomer · 26/05/2023 17:42

Well because different if four devices in the same house, but we have two in Ireland, two using in Germany, all adult subscriptions, I always thought it was a bit ridiculous of them to allow it!

24KaratCucumber · 26/05/2023 17:43

If I go to the paper shop and say I want a paper every Sunday and here's the £1 for that paper, would they deliver a free second paper to my.mum.at a second address?

If I head to the post office and pay my car tax for my car, will that count as my mum's car tax too?

Etc and so on and include more silly examples.

If people want a service, they should pay for the service, not share someone else's.

How will they know if you just carry on?

But surely it's more you buying the paper for £1 & then giving it to your mum to read?

Pixiedust1234 · 26/05/2023 17:50

I'm confused on how someone who works away will be able to watch in both places, or holiday cottage, etc.

curtainsfringe · 26/05/2023 17:51

There are subscriptions you can share. If you get a newspaper or a magazine delivered, it doesn't disintegrate after you read it. You can share it with other people. There's nothing inherently questionable about multiple people sharing a subscription.

Quite

Except a second (third, fourth) person watching Netflix isn't free. You pay more to allow multiple devices to stream at the same time. Which, realistically for a lot of folk meant someone in another house as not everyone has several folk watching in their house.

We got the "approve this device" screen last night for our console and it auto-approved our iPad at the same time.

Thesunnymood · 26/05/2023 17:55

I am paying for 4 screens, I should get to use 4 screens how I want to🤷🏻

Sharing is caring, eh Netflix.
They is reportedly loosing subscriptions, but quite honestly, it has nothing to do with password sharing more to do with some if the BS and very low quality they put up lately

Perfectly possible for a family to all be streaming different things and be in the same house.

Yes they encouraged it, to build scale. They don’t need to anymore. They need revenue.

Thesunnymood · 26/05/2023 17:56

Netflix not only allowed sharing, they encouraged it at one point

StillNeedACardi · 26/05/2023 17:59

I get why they are doing it.

But does anyone know if I will now have to pay for my kids who are away at university and stream from there?

I think they are being very reasonable allowing you to pay to add people on when they could just stop it altogether and make everyone get their own account .

this plus more competition

QueSyrahSyrah · 26/05/2023 18:04

We currently have a £10.99 plan for two devices, and it's logged in on our TV, and my Mum's TV. Not used anywhere else or by anyone else.

If they object to that then we'll downgrade to a £6.99 plan and my Mum just won't bother anymore, so their loss ultimately 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I imagine lots of people will do the same, downgrade to a single device and those that didn't want to pay in the first place still won't.

GasPanic · 26/05/2023 17:34

They could try mac address, but even mac address I think is not always fixed these days for security purposes.

MAC addresses are fixed as they identify a specific device. So that device always shows on the network with that MAC address.

it’s easy to identify an IP. Most people won’t be routinely using two broadband connections at once. As we move to ipv6 as well that is fixed to will become easier.

AuntieMarys · 26/05/2023 18:07

What's the issue? I pay 6.99 for Netflix...why should others get it for free?

they're not doing it because they want to be reasonable, they're doing it because they've calculated that is the best way to maximise their profits.

Thinking about it we might drop down to 2 screens as we won't need 4. MIL and the 4th login rarely use it anyway. And DD only watches during the day after school on the main TV so the only thing we might need is if DH is away for work and I'm at home in the evening.

Lessstressedhemum · 26/05/2023 18:20

I pay for 4 screens so my kids at uni can watch. They are only home in the holidays but they are still part of my household. Now, they won't be able to use Netflix while they are away, so there's no point really to me having it.

Also, I pay for 4 screens, I should be able to use them how I want to, in the same way that I can have shopping that I pay for delivered to my daughter, for example.

Snap-we have the full package so my
uni kids can watch as well.

If we can’t share, then I’ll cancel it and neither of my teen/young twenties kids will watch anything Netflix make as they can’t afford to pay for their own subscriptions. Is that what Netflix want-nobody in their twenties watching their stuff?
