This is really piss poor of Netflix and pure price gouging in action imo.

Am going to cancel and sign up to Disney plus instead.

@user1496146479 yes I agree. The pp you quoted just doesn't get it and clearly just doesn't understand the various payment plans, they just look a bit dumb tbh.

What happens if you go away on holiday to a rented house and want to log into your own Netflix account ?

That's fine. If you paid for multi screens and it stayed permanently logged on in the holiday home it would he then they'd ask for the extra £5 a month.

They're not stopping individuals from using their own log in wherever they go, it's to stop sharing passwords with friends/ family who don't live together.

Secretly pleased about it because SIL has been using ours for years and it means if she’s using it, our DC can’t watch something different to us at the same time. We have the family plan which is more expensive but she uses our account a lot and DC are older now so want to watch different things to us but can’t when she’s using it.

😳 you just tell her your dc are using it so no more available screens.... Unless she is paying part

QueefQueen80s · 27/05/2023 10:50

@NerrSnerr But what if someone stays in hotels every week, or kids dividing time between 2 houses etc, how will netflix know the difference.

"Frequently log in to Netflix in the same location when you're away from your home? You need to create a 'link' between this location and your main residence. Do you have a second home or a holiday home, for example, or do you regularly travel to the same location for work?

Here, you need to make sure you connect to the internet and open the Netflix app on your mobile devices (laptop, phone or tablet) at least once a month when at your main place of residence, and then do this again at your second location whenever you arrive. This will create a link between your home and that location, allowing you to keep using your account in both places."

So, are you suggesting that people will be able to infinite sharing their multi-screen Netflix accounts with university student offspring during term time under the new rules?

Pemba · 27/05/2023 13:57

They won't it seems, as most university students won't be going home once a month.

Unless it's different for on your mobile and maybe the screen where you are staying has a casting device, eg Chromecast. Would that be possible? I don't know how they'd look at that, but they don't seem to like the concept of people not returning to their homebase once a month. Very inflexible.

Why don’t you just log out of all devices and change the password?

then she can’t use it any more. You don’t have to justify it. Make her ask for the password, and if she does tell her your account doesn’t allow for her use any more 🤷‍♀️

sil was using my prime account after we let pil log in to watch something. I just changed the password. She’s not had the front to ask.

I’m very reluctant to try and get ‘my own’ because it’s just going to be an admin nightmare. For some historic reason, it’s my Netflix, but we paid for it through sky, which stayed behind in the divorce. I do feel like I’m mooching - I wasn’t aware though that there’s a possibility he’s paying more for me to do this. But the very first thing they say on the Netflix website if you look to buy it is ‘enter your email.’ Which is going to prompt an ‘already a member’ routine and involve everyone in a massive re-passwording project lasting many phone calls and devices. Aargh….

Mine certainly don't come home every month whole they are away. So that rules that out.

Once I've bought shopping or a news paper or whatever, I am free to use it as I see fit. Netflix are trying to dictate how I use the 4 screens I am paying for. They're not on.

Zanatdy · 27/05/2023 17:04

I don’t get why people are outraged when they’ve been using other peoples accounts for years. It’s a company, of course they want people to pay to use it, not use their mates for free. If you don’t want to pay, don’t use it

I’m pissed off that I pay for 4 screens-one for us and three for my kids-who have all been at home until number 1, then 2 went to university. They come home for holidays but are there in the term time. They are my kids and part of my household for large chunks of the year, not my mates.

I pay for family Spotify in the same way-we can all use it, no matter where we are.

If Netflix won’t allow this-I will cancel my whole account with them.

Disney doesn’t allow this either genius.

Actually they do ! Lots of people share their accounts

Yeah I have a teenager at Uni too. But the problem is the minority spoil it for the majority by sharing with friends who then don’t pay Netflix. As someone unthread said, it’s a business not a community kindness kind of thing. I’ll have to pay for an individual one for my son, I get why, it’s more expense but I’m surprised people have got away with it for so long. My ex has had his brothers password for that for years, uses my Amazon prime. They will all get fed up and rightly so

LizzieMacQueen · 27/05/2023 19:52

I'm like a lot of you, paid for multi devices as teens at home wanted to access something different to us parents at the same time. Of course those teens are now grown and at uni, but their home address has always been here.

I'm disappointed that true households, including offspring with no fixed abode of their own, are going to be charged more. I'll also be cancelling my £15.99/month and the kids that want it can get their own accounts for £4.99.

I'm using it less and less too but that's maybe not a bad thing 😀
