This is really piss poor of Netflix and pure price gouging in action imo.

Am going to cancel and sign up to Disney plus instead.

When does it all start?

Dd has been at university but lived at home for large parts of the year due to placement being near us and all other holidays. So she uses our password. We pay for 4 screens so we are already paying extra for her to watch whether she is her or at university, or any of us are away.

However, she finishes very soon and will be living at home for the coming year. No,issue - our household.

But - she will be travelling and working abroad for 3 months over the summer. However she is still our household - just away temporarily. We will also be away for holidays, etc over the summer.

How will they really know who is part of the household or not?

Theunamedcat · 26/05/2023 17:33

Surely they just send you an email asking if it's you and you say yes thats all they usually do

Yes they did this yesterday… my sister was using at her house and I just clicked the email they sent and said yea she’s in my household. She then carried on watching.

But it's supposed to be for 2/4 users in the same household.

The second/third/fourth screen are subsidised by the first account, which is normal for family deals.

They encouraged it at the time because it was part of their growth plan I assume, but they always said it wasn't going to be forever.

Wallywobbles · 26/05/2023 19:44

We have a family account and DD is at uni in a different country so not home every month. I think it's going to be true if lots of uni kids.

NerrSnerr · 26/05/2023 19:49

We got the email and it has made me reconsider. I have a couple of friends who use our account because we had the premium as my children used to watch it a lot on their iPads. I have realised that my kids don't watch it as much so we're downgrading to the two devices and my friends can get their own account.

I use my mum's account. If it stops working for me I will just tell my mum to downgrade her account to the single device plan because she and my dad only ever watch Netflix on the TV, so they will actually lose money. My husband and I won't take out our own subscription because we don't watch it enough to make it worthwhile.

They should do this with amazon prime too. Only the account holder can order to their house. If regular deliveries to the same address are being made then it should be flagged

I'd own hundred per cent cancel my Amazon prime if they prevented me ordering things to my friends and family address.

My mother does not have the capacity to shop online, she's fallen for scams a few times so my sister or I will order her things she needs to be shipped straight to her and it's often Amazon because it's the most convenient, my mum does not have the mobility to get the bus into town to do her shopping, she's practically housebound at the moment. I'm not local to her and it would cost more and take a lot longer ordering the things she needs to my house for me to arrange Royal Mail or whatever to then ship it to her, I'm disabled myself so can't always do the 90 mins each way by bus and again, that would cost a fortune.

I know a lot of people who help their aging parents have the things they need by having things shipped to them directly when they aren't local.

We have also downgraded today. We paid the £15.99 for months. Now dropped to the £10.99 package

Thesunnymood · 26/05/2023 19:58

Prime is not going to. Lots of people use it as @LovelyJublee
And certainly not going to do it with video

PToosher · 26/05/2023 19:58

If you want 4K video from Netflix, you have to pay for the top price subscription, which is £15.99 a month. With this you get 4 concurrent logins.
Next level down, gives you two logins but is reduced quality.
Currently I have the top level and share it with my son - he's had access to my Netflix all the years he lived at home.
I'm not going to pay £15.99 a month for 4 logins that I can't use and I'm not going to pay £10.99 for a lower quality service and then an extra £4.99 for an additional person to login.
So Netflix can stick it. I struggle to find much on there now anyway.

Willmafrockfit · 26/05/2023 19:58

you could be on holiday
however i have family using netflix so unlikely i would be in all these places
planning to cut my losses

Willmafrockfit · 26/05/2023 19:59

i pay £15.99 a month
but with 3 children and one friend <<that i know of>> i cannot chose who to keep, so no one

It's no different from having the couple or family account on Spotify. If I'm pay for 2 people it shouldn't matter where they are, I'm still paying for 2 people.

That would not make sense. I often want things shipped to other addresses!

Netflix advocated it themselves! 🙄

bungaloid · 26/05/2023 21:40

Yeah I'm already paying for UHD / extra screens, does it really matter what IP address the viewer comes from. I'd rather they just enforced total concurrent users.

Lessstressedhemum · 26/05/2023 21:53

RoseAdage · 26/05/2023 18:30

It explains how to deal with this situation in the article.

There is no way that I'm paying potentially another £15 so that my kids can watch. That would be £30 a month for netflix. Not on your puff!

user1496146479 · 26/05/2023 22:12

So we have Netflix, pay for four screens. So what happens the next time either just me or DH are traveling abroad with work, and want to log in our paid for Netflix account, while the other is at home watching on our other paid screen?

Lilifer · 26/05/2023 23:08

MayBeeJuneSoon · 26/05/2023 16:43

I agree with them too

What's the issue op?

The issue is that I pay the premium price for 4 screen use. Two of my kids are in uni so use two of that screen allowance. Now they won't be able to access from their respective cities just cos they're not using Netflix from the same IP address? F that. Im not paying Netflix twice for them to view it, I'll just transfer that ££monthly sub to another streaming service.

If it's an IP address or device that's not normally associated with your account (for eg a smart tv in a hotel ) you'll not get access
