Time to cancel that Netflix sub

This is really piss poor of Netflix and pure price gouging in action imo.

Am going to cancel and sign up to Disney plus instead.

I think Netflix is fine for a family but it's taking the piss when you've got more than one household on it.

Personally I cancelled for apple TV earlier this year. There's nothing worth watching and it wasn't worth it anymore.

You're a parasite OP.

Password sharing is as good as piracy.

I guess Netflix just doesn't believe in Love anymore 🤷‍♀️

DF has my Netflix password.

I'd love to know how they're going to differentiate between a holiday home and my DF's home?

Purrfecto · 26/05/2023 23:26

I’ve just downgraded my plan from 10.99 to 6.99 as I was only paying the extra so grandparents could watch when they wanted.

@Clementineorsatsuma

"OP advocating for theft of a service?

How odd 🤷‍♀️"

What a numpty! Netflix actually suggested it themselves with their Love is .. Sharing a password campaign 😂 keep clutching those pearls tho if it makes you feel better!

But netflix have been saying for a long long time that they were allowing it at the time, but putting a stop to it in future.

Lilifer · 26/05/2023 23:47

@Boomshock for sure, and they're totally entitled to do so. I just think a lot of people are gonna vote with their feet, I know I will. It's the law of the marketplace and time will tell if it was a good decision or no. Personally I think the quality of Netflix shows has declined so I'll not miss it much anyway.

I share my account with my two daughters one is a uni student on a tight budget the other does now live away from home but no spare cash for luxuries. Doing this made netflix good value for money- I don’t watch netflix enough to warrant paying just for me to watch it, and I’ll be damned if I give them even more money each month. Account will be cancelled.

GuffyTheDustBuster · 27/05/2023 00:03

I pay for a premium account which gives me 5 user ids inc 2 kids at uni. If I can't use them as I choose - then they'll lose my subs entirely.

No biggie. Their loss.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/05/2023 00:34

It will mean students at uni will need their own accounts. I think it's shit tbh,I agree OP.

Hoppingmad231 · 27/05/2023 00:48

ItsNotRocketSalad · 26/05/2023 16:41

I really don't get the outrage about this. Why do you think multiple households should share one subscription?

Well I don't watch Netflix however I do look after my niece's 4 days a week who do like to watch it, should I pay for a account for them or should they beable to log onto the account that is paided for already by their mum?

MzAitch · 27/05/2023 00:50

I've left Netfliz with no regrets, though not because of the sub. issue. I get loads of std/popular films via tv channels, including ITVX but now also subscribe to the BFI & get really first class, interesting films here in kitchen through the telly. No regrets what ever.

Mouldyfoodhelp · 27/05/2023 00:58

I get their stance but then their subscription model makes no sense why would one household need 4 screens at once? And that's the only level you can get 4k I believe.

Same as you.
I pay for access for everyone that uses it, including my daughter at University. As I am paying a premium for everyone to access simultaneously, I expect that to happen.
If we can't access the service we paid for, then I'll cancel it.
They actually advertised that people should share their accounts! We didn't though. We paid a premium so everyone could access.
Why is address so important here?
My family don't all cohabit simultaneously. Otherwise we would watch simultaneously, and it would cost a lot less.

ejbaxa · 27/05/2023 01:03

I don’t see the problem with what Netflix are doing. They want one subscription per household - seems reasonable?

Maverickess · 27/05/2023 01:14

24KaratCucumber · 26/05/2023 17:43

If I go to the paper shop and say I want a paper every Sunday and here's the £1 for that paper, would they deliver a free second paper to my.mum.at a second address?

If I head to the post office and pay my car tax for my car, will that count as my mum's car tax too?

Etc and so on and include more silly examples.

If people want a service, they should pay for the service, not share someone else's.

I think with the paper analogy, it's more like you're paying £1 for the paper, which includes the TV section, but if you want to pass the TV section onto your mum to read at her house then they'll charge you an extra 50p.
I pay £14.99 for 4 screens, one for me, one for DD (at uni) one for my mum and the 4th doesn't get used. I'm paying for those 4 screens already, my mum and DD are getting it for free that's true, but that's because I'm the one paying for it - Netflix aren't giving it to them, I am. And now they want to charge me a further £9.98 because DD is temporarily away at uni and my mum uses one of the screens. That then becomes unaffordable, and actually cheaper for me to pay £4.99 for an account each - exactly the same as what I pay now 🤷🏼‍♀️

StrugglingWeight · 27/05/2023 01:29

Presumably with uni students they will just pay you the 4.99?

FussyPud · 27/05/2023 01:31

Doooop · 26/05/2023 18:33

They should do this with amazon prime too. Only the account holder can order to their house. If regular deliveries to the same address are being made then it should be flagged

I often buy gifts to be delivered directly to the recipient. Your idea is bonkers.

StrugglingWeight · 27/05/2023 01:35

I first got netflix at uni and I specifically upgraded to an extra screen because my parents kept watching my netflix I'd left logged in on their tv. My parents still use it occasionally and I use it there when visitng so I've kept paying for 2 screens, probably for around 8yrs or so.

I have been paying the additional price, specifically for 2 screens. I have been paying for fucking years to use 2 screens, why does it matter if that's 2 screens in one house?

Now to downgrade to one screen (because without my parents I don't need 2) I apparently also lose quality. Or I have to pay an extra fiver a month to use the service I've been paying for for years

It seemed reasonable to pay that for us both to use occasionally but neither us or my parents get enough use to justify nearly 150 a year for one household.

peachespeachespeaches · 27/05/2023 01:44

If I'm paying for three screens at once, I fail to see why I should be dictated to about where those bloody screens are. All in my house, one on the moon, I don't care.

MermaidMummy06 · 27/05/2023 01:46

I found out my cousin was charging my trusting DM & aunt for piggy backing. I added it up & together they're pretty much paying for the entire subscription. So they can't do that anymore, which is a small positive.

I hope other services don't do it though. We share subs with others & they do the same back. We can't justify the cost of multiple streaming services.

curtainsfringe · 27/05/2023 05:57
  • Presumably with uni students they will just pay you the 4.99?*

nah they will just stream things illegally like we used too!

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/05/2023 06:26

curtainsfringe · 26/05/2023 18:01

They is reportedly loosing subscriptions, but quite honestly, it has nothing to do with password sharing more to do with some if the BS and very low quality they put up lately

this plus more competition

The other big issue they have is people switching between services. Most people will have one or 2 subscriptions going at a time but not always the same ones. This is what I used to do.

Currently, I have Netflix and Spotify because I’m using a friend’s account, similarly she has access to my Disney + and britbox. Of those I’m pretty sure only Spotify will end up with 2 single accounts constantly. The rest we’ll just dip in and out as we want to watch something, with 1 screen accounts rather than 4.

All of the video streaming services have revenue issues but people sharing passwords isn’t their big issue. It’s that the market is saturated, largely with mediocre quality output.

Goodadvice1980 · 27/05/2023 06:44

I think Netflix commenting on password sharing has flagged to a lot of subscribers how crap most of the content is now and people are rightly questioning if it’s worth continuing to pay a subscription 🤷‍♀️ whereas previously the subs were just another direct debit being paid every month.

Could perhaps be a bit of a Ratners moment for Netflix?
