Currently have an Audi A4 Avant which I love but it’s on its last legs now. I was thinking of getting another newer one but fancy a change.

My criteria is:

Big enough for pram
Lots of leg room
Fits 2 isofix seats in the back
Good on fuel
Comfortable for long trips
Has a good amount of tech
Looks cool!

Mine is an MG5. I love it. Very relaxing to drive.

Mummaluma · 25/05/2023 18:08

Nissan Qashqai

Mercedes A class. Love mine. Good boot space, lovely to drive, plenty of room for three children and lots of tech!

FergalforPM · 25/05/2023 18:10

Has a good amount of tech
What does that mean?

ChiChaNaYubi · 25/05/2023 18:10

Oooops forgot to add no electric!

Tesla Y, I love it but I know electric isnt for everyone

Wtafisgoingontoday · 25/05/2023 18:13

Audi Q2, I have a pram in the boot and two isofix car seats in the back!

bibbityboppityboo · 25/05/2023 18:13

RR Vogue - incredibly comfy on long journeys, lots of leg room up front and a really good amount in the back. Big boot too! Tech is fab I think (massage seats, inbuilt fridge, all the screens you could want)

Or a defender 110, lots of leg room and again the boot is massive.

We've never had any mechanical issues with landrover, and when we were recently in a crash at speed our car + us came out the best, so it gave me confidence in the safety of it too.

A SVR looks cool, but definitely not fuel efficient 😂

Frenchfancy · 25/05/2023 18:17

Ford Kuga. Best car I've ever had.

We chose it because it has really good legroom in the back and DD is tall.

Comfortable to drive, can't think of any tech it doesn't have. Big boot.

Another vote for the Audi Q2. I positively enjoying driving the car ( and hate driving my Volvo!).

Oooh what is it you hate about the Volvo? I was looking at Volvo’s.

I have down sized to a t-roc after always having a type of land rover and it’s a dream (and gets 57 miles to the gallon)

CarCrazy · 25/05/2023 18:40

I love love love my car!!! Like proper love it!

It ticks all your boxes, except I'm afraid you may not think it's all that 'cool' (I think it's cool though! 😎🚘 And so do my v car savvy kids! The 'blacked out windows' apparantly raise the cool status) ;)

It's a Berlingo (some might say an older persons car, but hey! I love it!)

Polis · 25/05/2023 18:40

I take it that “Good on fuel” doesn’t mean 25mpg on a good day?

HeartQueenCharlotte · 25/05/2023 18:43

I have an A5 Quattro. Love it! Sun roof, plenty of tech - electric seats, sun roof, car play, Audi connect etc. , massive boot and really roomy inside. It looks really nice too.

cocksstrideintheevening · 25/05/2023 18:43

Yep, Vauxhall zafira, ugly as fuck but does what I need it to do, namely transport
Dts and friends plus dog. Great driving position.

I changed my range rover in for it.

StillWantingADog · 25/05/2023 18:45

Our Hyundai Ioniq 5 arrived today. It’s very cool indeed and very spacious.

it’s electric (our second EV), intrigued why you won’t consider electric. If you don’t have offstreet parking, I understand.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/05/2023 18:45

Mine is a seat Leon fr. love it. It's practical but still lovely. Really smooth to drive. Quick to start from traffic lights. Economical

Icequeen01 · 25/05/2023 18:46

I have an Audi Q3 which I have had fun new which is now coming up to 10 years old which I love. I will keep it until it dies. My DH has a top of the range VW Tiguan which is a gorgeous car to drive and very similar to the Audi.

JuneShitfield · 25/05/2023 18:46

Nissan Murano. It’s a good car, and was cheap. No one knows what it is. (Imagine a Qashqai, but plusher, and the size of a BMW X5.) It’s not a theft magnet in any way, shape or form.

It’s extremely comfortable and has been very reliable, especially considering it is now 15 years old. The tech is old, but it was a relatively high-end car when it was new so what there is, is good. Exceptional sound system and very fine, soft leather.

It’s not great on fuel, being a V6 petrol. Although it’s quite a slippery shape so better than I’d expected.

‘Looks cool’ is highly subjective. 🤣 People come up to me at petrol stations and say either ‘What is that?’ or ‘That’s a big Qashqai!’

You’re likely looking at newer but I’m trying to do the ‘keep a decent thing going as long as possible’ approach.

DownNative · 25/05/2023 18:47

Astra K 2017 SRi Elite Nav. Diesel.

Looks great inside and out. Not expensive to run and has isofix connections for car seats x2. Good sized boot too. No spare wheel and you can buy one plus a floor to go over it if you want.

Has cruise Control and the typical in-car technology for phones, etc.

2017 or above years would do a very good job. The SRi model gets up to speec very fast.

eurochick · 25/05/2023 18:47

We have a BMW x3 petrol. It ticks all of your boxes apart from good on fuel. It's a lovely car. If I had to buy a new car today I would buy another one. I couldn't say the same about any other car I have owned.

Those van-derived cars are really good at what they do. All the respected dog breeders I know drive Berlingos, Kangoos or Fiat Doblos.

Blossomtoes · 25/05/2023 18:49

I loved my two Toyota Auris hybrids. Sadly they no longer make them but I’d buy a low mileage second hand one in a heartbeat. Beautiful cars.
