Currently have an Audi A4 Avant which I love but it’s on its last legs now. I was thinking of getting another newer one but fancy a change.

My criteria is:

Big enough for pram
Lots of leg room
Fits 2 isofix seats in the back
Good on fuel
Comfortable for long trips
Has a good amount of tech
Looks cool!

Ive got a mini cooper s, totally impractical but it makes me smile every time I get in it......our 'practical' car is a BMW 3 series touring, with all the bells and whistles. Both are cracking cars for different reasons.

Audi Q5 here . Bloody love it .
Large boot , all mod cons , very comfortable, easy handling , eats mileage on motorways .

NoProbLlamaa · 25/05/2023 19:47

If you are happy with your current A4, get a newer version

S4 Avant easily the best car I ever had. Having owned dQ3/A3/A4 I wouldn’t imagine a Q2 isn’t big enough for what you want - not really a family car.

Astra K 2017 SRi Elite Nav. Diesel.

Looks great inside and out. Not expensive to run and has isofix connections for car seats x2. Good sized boot too. No spare wheel and you can buy one plus a floor to go over it if you want.

Has cruise Control and the typical in-car technology for phones, etc.

2017 or above years would do a very good job. The SRi model gets up to speec very fast.

I love mine too! They have a bad rep but mines been super reliable, cheap to run, decent tech and is a good size inside and comfortable whilst not being huge to manaevour.

cecinestpasunepipe · 25/05/2023 20:11

Honda crv 4wd hybrid. Easy to manoeuvre, and big enough to fit a family of four in plus driver.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 25/05/2023 20:16

I have a Mercedes CLA coupe. It ticks your boxes. The boot it a bloody good size. As mine’s a night edition plus it has a sunroof which I love. Even though it’s a coupe, it’s a 4 door.

hennaoj · 25/05/2023 20:16

I recently bought a Citroen C5 Aircross Flair plus. Very, very comfy big part leather seats. Big boot, plenty of leg room. Air suspension. Nice big centre console with cooled storage and armrest and big cupholders. Lots of tech, including electric panoramic sunroof, electric boot, climate control, integrated dash cam and self parking. I think it looks rather cool too, mine has the black 19 inch alloys. The 2019 and early 2020 models have the best tech, later ones had stuff removed due to lack of computer chips.

I was looking at BMW's, Skodas and Fords before the C5. Test drove a top of the range Berlingo, found it too basic and van like.

I’ve got a new mini countryman cooper s. It’s gorgeous, feels really quality to drive, proper full seats, good leg room, big boot, looks kind of chunky and mean. I love it! It is a bit fuel thirsty but I think that’s because mines a 4 wheel drive.

confusedlots · 25/05/2023 20:24

I recently changed mine to a T Roc and I love it. It's a good size without being too big and lovely to drive

I loved mine too, until the turbocharger failed on me

Oh no, thank god we’ve had no trouser all. I’d definitely buy another were one when we are due to change but hubby wants to wait to 2025 and get an electric car. The electric jag would be too small for us though 😢

Iwouldliketogotosweden · 25/05/2023 20:28

I love my Skoda kodiaq, huge boot so no need for roof rack, plenty of space for baby and kids stuff. Not that economical though as I have the petrol, did 40mpg yesterday on a motorway.
Only thing I don’t like is that it’s silver, but it was a cancelled order so I didn’t choose it.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 25/05/2023 20:29

Got a Golf, it's fab. Boot fits a double buggy and more squished around it, tons of legroom, fast AF but not a stupid beast size to park. Would recommend one to anyone.

MovinGroovinBarbie · 25/05/2023 20:36

I've got a dirty great Mitsubishi pickup. Old version of the L200 but it's the fairly rare Walkinshaw Performance version with sports chassis instead of leaf springs and big downpipe exhausts. I've also had it lifted to put big knobbly off road tyres on it.

With the hard shell on the back it looks like the batmobile. It's not great on fuel and a lot of people would hate parking it but I absolutely love it. Goes anywhere.

ASeagullNamedCat · 25/05/2023 20:38

I've a Volvo S60

Best car I've ever owned and I've owned a lot of good cars

Agree with this, I’m on my second Countryman S after doing 160k from new in my first. Excellent acceleration, lots of toys (although practically all are add-ons so it can work out expensive), much bigger boot in the newer model and holds its value well.
the only thing I’m finding is, as I’m used to diesels, I’m filling up more often. However, petrol being cheaper, I think it’s working out about the same cost per mile.

I’m v happy with my Ford Focus. Have driven them since they first came out, always trade in for a new one around the 4 or 5 year mark. Top speed of 110mph, which is great on the motorway.
Never needs any repairs or parts, just annual service - v reliable.
Loads of space for three people in the back comfortably, and a good sized boot.
When the kids were at home, we could easily fit three adults’ suitcases in the boot. And I can get a six foot real Xmas tree in, by dropping the rear seats!

I love my ford focus and this is my exact experience too, right down to the Xmas tree. They are really nice to drive and they've always been good at having features that make driving easier/more enjoyable.

Bad rep? I wasn't aware of that, but I love it and it's been very reliable. Previously had the 2007 Astra H which was great, but the K is a huge improvement over it.

Great car and just as good as its competition in the same model style!

gogohmm · 25/05/2023 20:50

Mazda 3, 50+ mph, fully loaded tech. Mazda 6 has bigger boot though

DownNative · 25/05/2023 20:50

@Tomlitoo The new Astra looks fantastic and looks like an improvement on the K. Would love one of the new ones!

Note to self.....must save more £££.

FatCatBum · 25/05/2023 21:01

Hyundai Tucson, love it

Jaguar F Pace. I love it. Loads of room in front & back seats plus great boot.

Me too

I'm kind of broke due to this car

But it is fab !!!

NaughtyButNice · 25/05/2023 21:06

I have a Ford Focus ST mark 3 Diesel
Absolutely love it to bits! I have older children and they don't mind being seen in it.

Sidge · 25/05/2023 21:23

I really like my Hyundai Tucson. Roomy, looks great and plenty of tech. Not amazingly economical though - my Skoda Karoq was better.

DP has a Ford Focus, it’s ace. Incredibly economical, spacious and nice to drive.

Shade17 · 25/05/2023 21:31

You know the SRi is a trim level? Nothing to do with performance 🤣🤣🤣

MrsCharlieD · 25/05/2023 21:34

Toyota CHR. Its hybrid so no need to charge and I absolutely love it! Good boot, I have 2 kids in car seats in the back and middle seat is still useable. Loads of tech; sat nav, blue tooth, phone, heated seats, air con, automatic lights and wipers, keyless entry. I've had mine 3 years and would absolutely buy another.
