I’m just wondering who on earth cares? Can’t understand why this is such big news.

Because she is the Home Secretary.

AnarchoTyrannosaurus · 22/05/2023 17:05

Is this about the speeding thing?

MushMonster · 22/05/2023 17:06

Well.... read the news..... about Suella Braverman, perhaps?
I do not know any Stella Braverman..

MissyB1 · 22/05/2023 17:07

A: because she’s the Home Secretary so the hypocrisy is sickening.
B: She’s a nasty piece of work.

PoePoePoePoePoe · 22/05/2023 17:08

She broke the ministerial code. Twice. She was sacked for breaking the ministerial code last year too.

So she’s now broken it three times.

Thats a pretty big fucking deal.

sparklefresh · 22/05/2023 17:09

If you're not angry, you're not paying attention.

Arightoldcarryabag · 22/05/2023 17:09

I think the main reason is that she is so deeply unpopular so people are desperate to bring her down.
Her behaviour is unbecoming of her position and is in previous times would have been a resigning matter.

I think people are so sick of this government that they are trying to force members out any way they can so this will gain traction and probably won't be dropped by the press or on socials until she goes.

billyt · 22/05/2023 17:09

It's more to do with morals and ethics, which that woman does not possess.

Schroedingersimmigrant · 22/05/2023 17:09

This is exactly why we have government we have🤷🏻

dariane · 22/05/2023 17:10

You mean Sue Ellen? She's broken the ministerial code (probably) again. She should be sacked

CaveMum · 22/05/2023 17:10

It’s Suella Braverman.

It’s highly probable that this could be the “Al Capone” moment that Rishi has been waiting for to get rid of her. She was only reappointed to pacify the extreme right wing of the Tory party.

PoePoePoePoePoe · 22/05/2023 17:11

@Arightoldcarryabag agreed that she’s vile and deeply unpopular.

But she also broke the ministerial code THREE times. If she’d been a lovely woman this still would be inexcusable. The fact that she’s a vicious cow means the karma is just all the greater.

Minecraftfield · 22/05/2023 17:12

Agree, I don't get the fuss really. She was still going to do the course, just wanted special treatment and they said no.
It's not like the chap who got his wife to take the points for him.
Disclaimer: don't know anything about her politics

CuriousGeorge80 · 22/05/2023 17:15

Because she’s a friend horrendous human being. And incompetent. A horrible combination which means she should not be in the job she is. So people are excited by a chance to get her out. Her actions are symptomatic of the type of person she is - arrogant and unethical.

CuriousGeorge80 · 22/05/2023 17:15

dunno where the random friend came from!

User98866 · 22/05/2023 17:17

I suspect Rishi wants her gone and I suspect a trickle of unfavourable press until that happens. She has made herself unpopular with both left and right now. She’s failed miserably to tackle ‘problem immigration’ and no one wants her ridiculous refugee mega barges near their towns if at all.

AutumnCrow · 22/05/2023 17:18

Steellia Brothermans is the Seceterry if Statte for Hominem OFir.

Fififafa · 22/05/2023 17:19

She has form for breaching the ministerial code and has already been sacked for doing so.
She tried to get the Civil Service to do her personal dirty work for her, which is against the ministerial code.
She could have just accepted the points and fine straight away, if she really couldn’t stand being in a room full of plebs.

This one thinks she’s above the law. Just google SUELLA Braverman and ministerial code. The problem is that little Rishi is too scared to sack her. He needs her support because she brought the Far Right wing of the Conservative Party overt to his side, when they agreed that he would become PM.

Aaron95 · 22/05/2023 17:19

I really dislike her and her morals but in thie particular case it is a storm in a teacup. She asked if she could attend the speed awareness course privately for security reasons. She was told no and therefore decided to take the penalty points instead.

Asking if she could attend a course privately doesn't seem unreasonable for someone who is the Home Secretary.

Malarandras · 22/05/2023 17:22

For anyone that doesn’t get it, here it is:

She tried to get around due process - the process you, me and everyone else has to go through - by using her position.

This is abuse of power.

This is against the Ministerial code.

It is unethical.

She should not be doing this and needs to be investigated and face appropriate consequences.

carolinestowcrat · 22/05/2023 17:23

It's not just that she broke the ministerial code for the third time, it's that she asked civil servants to try to sort the matter out for her. Civil servants work for the state they do not work for ministers, nor are they paid by them - they are paid for by our taxes. So Braverman asking civil servants to look into if she could do a one-on-one speed awareness course was absolutely the incorrect thing for her to do.

If she had half a brain, she would have engaged a solicitor or lawyer who could have fixed this for her. But she's cheap, lazy and entitled, so asked the civil service.

Whatifitallgoesright · 22/05/2023 17:24

If she could put her money where her mouth is and get gender ideology out of schools soon that would be great.

katmarie · 22/05/2023 17:25

Firstly, she broke the law by speeding. Personally I think that those who make the laws should be held to the highest standards. Expecting them not to brak those laws, even the most insignificant seeming law, is the least we can expect from them.

Secondly, she sought to use her position as an MP/Government minister to obtain special treatment, firstly by trying to get the civil service to set up a one on one speed awareness course, and when the CS said no, using one of her own special advisers to try and achieve the same thing.

MPs are obliged to uphold the impartiality of the CS, asking them for special favours puts them in a very difficult position. She knows that. She of all people should be well versed in the ministerial code by now.

greencardigangirl · 22/05/2023 17:26

She keeps breaking the Ministerial Code. It's plain to see for everyone but her and the PM

TheHandmaiden · 22/05/2023 17:26

Basically she treated the Civil Service like her personal concierge and that is not allowed. They help with her policies, not the embarrassment of being caught speeding.
