I’m just wondering who on earth cares? Can’t understand why this is such big news.

Because she's a woman of colour trying to get a handle on immigration, which has made the lefties (labour) practically implode. So in desperation a tabloid drag up some year old story about a speeding ticket, for which she paid the fine and took the points when she was told she couldn't do a private course to save face. Kier Starmer has got wind of this, cum in his pants and called for her immediate resignation.

PoePoePoePoePoe · 22/05/2023 18:09

@Janiie ”weasley civil servants”, well you’ve pinned your colours to the mast haven’t you? Yes blame the civil servants not the total pricks they currently have the misery of working for. She’s a fucking lawyer she would have known full well she wasn’t allowed to do it. She’s a dick. No fucking sympathy.

PoePoePoePoePoe · 22/05/2023 18:10

@amylou8 yes of course. That’s exactly it 🙄

CuriositysCat · 22/05/2023 18:11

Because she is the person in charge of law and order in this country and has tried to squirm her way out of the very justice which she has been appointed to uphold and is paid a fortune to do so! Surely that much is obvious?

jgw1 · 22/05/2023 18:11

Rhondaa · 22/05/2023 17:32

It's the hysterical media, like Boris and the cake all over again.

She asked if she could do the speeding course as a 1 to 1, was told no so paid the fine. It is such a non story

@Janiie since you mention cake, have you worked out yet why it was acceptable for a 56 year old to have a birthday party whilst denying that opportunity to millions of children?

jgw1 · 22/05/2023 18:14

Rhondaa · 22/05/2023 17:49

'And thirdly, rather than just admit she shouldn’t have done it, she maintains that she did no wrong. It’s disappointing she is so severely lacking in integrity.'

A speeding fine. It wasn't armed robbery y'know. Think most folk who have been caught by a speed camera still manage to have a bit of integrity. How desperate are labour to make this out to be such a drama.

@Janiie do you have a list of laws that it is acceptable for people to break, or does it only apply to Tory politicans?

LakieLady · 22/05/2023 18:14

PoePoePoePoePoe · 22/05/2023 17:47

@Janiie she asked her civil servants to intervene to make it happen - she didn’t sort it herself! These are public servants. I’m a civil servant - I’m not employed to dig my boss out of shit she got into in her private life FFS 🙄.

She also got one of her senior civil servants to lie about the fact that she had even been caught in the first place.

Its very much not a fucking non story 🙄🤬🤦‍♀️.

Exactly.

She seems to think that HO civil servants are her personal PAs, ffs.

And asking if she can claim the fine back on expenses, when she gets paid salaries of £150k+ is bloody disgraceful.

I have to drive for my job and tried to claim a speeding fine through my expenses, my manager would be sending my claim back with a note saying "Nice try, Lakie, but you're taking the piss."

I'm curious to know if the speeding offence occurred while she was driving on official business, too. I was under the impression that ministers of state had their own drivers. If she wanted to claim for a fine incurred when she was trying to get to Tesco before it shut, that's even worse.

I reckon she might already have a few points on her licence and that's why she was keen to take the course instead. She may be getting close to the 12 point limit.

mmmmm i don't think so because the pressure originally came from the Tory press, which seem to dislike her because of a lack of loyalty to Sunak.

However, a HS cannot be seen to be above the law, 1 2 1 speed awareness courses are not a thing, she should know this and shouldn't using the Civil Service to get herself special treatment, her special adviser also lied to the press and denied she'd even got a speeding ticket, the SPAD is supposed to abide by the ministerial code and reports direct to SB, they wouldn't do that sort of thing on their own.

As to your other remarks about Starmer, pretty disgusting but typical of the sort of right wing voter nowadays who often struggle to put across a coherent argument to why they still support this Government.

IamAlso4eels · 22/05/2023 17:57

The klaxon at Tory-bot HQ must be going crackers tonight, they'll be shelling some hellacious overtime out come payday.

Oh I do hope that our resident cutnpastova expert comes along to join the party.
What I don't understand though is that by bringing up parties again, they just remind everyone of how awful the Tories are.

Hippyhippybake · 22/05/2023 18:17

so does she have a separate PA then? I assumed her PA as Home Secretary would be a civil servant? Where is it confirmed that she asked for the fine to be paid on expenses?

countrygirl99 · 22/05/2023 18:17

Rhondaa · 22/05/2023 17:56

'No one cares that she was speeding it's the trying to cover it up'

By seeing if she could do a 1 to 1 course? That isn't 'covering up'. Surely she'd know many civil servants seem a back stabbing bunch so I highly doubt she'd ask one of them to cover anything up.

Was her SPAD denying there was a speeding offence when asked by the Mirror 3 months ago not an attempt at a cover up? Or do her special advisors routinely deny things without checking? If the latter is the case will the SPAD be sacked?

LakieLady · 22/05/2023 18:17

Duh, I didn't realise that the course was just instead of the fine, I thought it let you off the points too.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 22/05/2023 18:17

It's interesting to see how many people think that a breach of the ministerial code is unimportant. Do people really have such low standards in public life that they think these rules don't need to be followed?

Civil servants do not exist to help ministers deal with personal matters. We can deduce from the fact that she asked them to get involved in her personal matters that either she does not understand the ministerial or she thinks it is OK to breach it. Either of those possibilities is quite worrying to me.

Sadly, Boris Johnson set the bar so very low with his law breaking that people no longer seem to expect government ministers to act with basic integrity and in the public interest. It's quite shocking when you actually stop and think about how low we have sunk.

MsWhitworth · 22/05/2023 18:18

I don’t think she did much wrong. She wants asking to be let off, she asked if she could do it privately. The first lot said ‘don’t know and we can’t help you’ so she asked someone else to find out and the answer was no, which she accepted.

I don’t blame her. We all know it’s highly likely that someone in the room would’ve taken a picture of her and sold it to the tabloids.

Greenfairydust · 22/05/2023 18:19

Do you really need this explained to you?

No wonder we have such dodgy politicians if this is the level of political literacy we have in this country...

MedievalMadness · 22/05/2023 18:19

It's mostly because she's not white.

Its mostly because like most of the rest of the Tory’s, she has a very dubious relationship with the truth, a massive sense of entitlement and a seriously unreliable moral compass.

That may well be the case, so pay the fine or better still, don't speed? its quite easy to avoid a speeding penalty.

DrManhattan · 22/05/2023 18:19

Op do you know who she is and what job she does?

countbackfromten · 22/05/2023 18:20

She was the Attorney General when this happened, she is now Home Secretary, one of the highest ministerial positions. She has broken the ministerial code 3 times now.

She isn’t fit to do the job. And has shown that repeatedly. Dismayed that so many seem so eager to dismiss it, is this really what we will accept?

You're missing the point. It wasn't the job of publicly funded civil servants to sort out her personal issues.

HarrietPierce · 22/05/2023 18:21

She could have done it on zoom like other people I know. You still have to pay for the course . It depends on the provider- around £80 to £100.

AutumnCrow · 22/05/2023 18:23

She's not that bright, really.

I gather it has been difficult to 'bring her down' to date, other than through these kinds of stories.

Sunak has been an idiot protecting her for so long after he won leadership. Just goes to show the nutters still have power within the bloody Tories.

It does get you off the fine and the points - but the cost of the course is not dissimilar to the fine.

StraightOuttaContext · 22/05/2023 18:25

Disclaimer: don't know anything about her politics

Fucking hell.
