To not understand what Philip Scofield did wrong?

I’m not a fan of Phil or Holly and have never watched This Morning. However, I’ve read about the issues the show has been facing in the news recently and am at a loss to understand why Phil had to step down. What did he actually do wrong?

I know his brother has been imprisoned for a heinous crime but obviously that’s nothing to do with Phil. So I don’t understand why he decided to resign.

Distancing...yet says "The sofa won't be the same without him"

Hardly distancing surely??

It's a very ambiguous comment though!

There is also a very clear track record of grooming of a former runner of the show, who was silenced when Phil came out. Perhaps a trade off story with the press. Matthew McCreevy - there's lots online.

…such as, posting on MN about people that in theory you never watched or read about according to your own post. You remind me of the OP, who also didn’t watch TM or like HW or PS. Both of you have better things to do with your time, apparently🧐

You’re right, I do have better things to do with my time - like hold down a job!! 😂

They all went on holiday together with their families, including the brother... and Phil knew about the abuse.

If this is true, this is certainly friendship ending territory and could be why things soured. Her eldest son is 14. Imagine finding out that your "friend" knowingly let his paedophile brother with a predilection is teen boys be under the same roof on holiday.

NeedToThinkOfOne · 20/05/2023 22:19

Top tip for everyone who clearly knows the hairdresser of your mum’s neighbour’s vets, aunt’s dentist’s son who has a friend that works on TM, so you know ALL THE FACTS. Stick an ‘allegedly’ into your posts, if you have to post at all. Obviously you’re #bekind people IRL, so you may not think it necessary, but trust me, some of us know how important it is that you do this. It’s better not to post at all, obviously.

Museya15 · 20/05/2023 22:28

There is a reason why so many celebs have rounded on him.

Ladykryptonite · 20/05/2023 22:28

Needtothinkofone, you dont actually know that some posters know what they're talking about.

SargentSagittarius · 20/05/2023 22:28

Phil, Phil, Phil…..

This could all so easily have been avoided.

You know, by not grooming and abusing minors, getting into highly questionable ‘relationships’, covering up for criminals, and lying again and again. Patron of a youth organisation, well, that’s also a good look for you.

Hindsight, huh? It’s a funny old thing. 🫤

You know this is getting deleted because MNHQ love him, don't you? But it's gold Grin

I reported the post. Nothing gold about it...

ChateauMargaux · 20/05/2023 22:42

Why the Holly hate.. as far as I can tell she hasn't been grooming youngsters or covering for relatives who have since been found guilty of sexual abuse of children..

whynotwhatknot · 20/05/2023 22:44

I heard rumours about the young boy obviously no proof yet of all that-but the whole comng out thing was terrible like he was such a victim

then the icing on the cake was admitting he knew what his brother was doing he should never be allowed on tv after that

Ladykryptonite · 20/05/2023 22:28

Sure, but isn’t the point that many who don’t know just think it’s ok to believe what they read in The Sun accuse and suggest things because social media enables them to behave entirely different to IRL. Yes, people will know the truth, but even if there’s some true facts on here, trial by social media/tabloids is so dangerous, especially for the families of the accused or those closely involved.

I don’t think Holly comes out of this very well either. Just someone who’ll cut ties if the person can no longer serve them well. Not defending Philip at all - but she seems ruthless and self serving and this has damaged her brand regardless.

she Can’t win really, can she? Stay loyal to PS and she’s fucked. Cut ties with him and she’s labelled disloyal.

Because in all likelihood she’s known about Phil and the young runner for years and turned a blind eye to it.

It’s the fact she’s managed to do both. If she had spoken out at the time and said t wasn’t right I’d have respected that. She was happy to ignore it until she thought the shit was going to hit the fan and she’d be dragged down too. So ignores questionable behaviour and throws a friend under the bus.

Livelovebehappy · 20/05/2023 22:52

I think it was a combination of a lot of things, part of which were bullying allegations by other celebs and behind the scenes staff. They won’t put up with that crap like they used to. Look at Dick and Angel as an example. Lot of whistle blowing goes on on shows these days, and TV companies can’t risk their staff running to the media tarnishing their shows.

SpidersAreShitheads · 20/05/2023 22:53

I don’t think there’s anything misogynistic in thinking that HW is problematic too. Obvs not in the same league as PS but she’s an enabler and complicit.

When PS did his coming out interview she went to great lengths to show that he was his confidante. I remember fuming over her simpering over him - especially when she asked if there was someone special- so disrespectful to his actual wife!!!

There’s always been lots of whispers that HW is a ruthless career climber and she hooked up with PS because of his influence, and because it reflected well on her to have a famous gay bestie.

I don’t think there’s a chance that she doesn’t know about PS’s relationship with the very young runner. And she probably knows a lot more too which is yet to come out.

I think it’s wrong that she slides out of all of this with no blame. She was happy to turn a blind eye when it benefitted her career.

If she really had an issue with PS, HW wouldn’t have put out a statement. Silence would have spoken volumes but instead she’s talking about how he’ll be missed.

As for PS, it will be interesting to see if he does present next month’s Soap Awards as ITV are still claiming he will. If he does, it proves the only reason he stepped down was due to his relationship with HW - if it’s due to his conduct, surely ITV wouldn’t still be happy to put him front and centre?!

I think PS should be off our screens for good. No one is going to look at him now without thinking about his behaviour- and that’s assuming there’s nothing more to come out…

It's simply a case of building these people up and then tearing them down because they have become tooo successful. At the end of the day there is no real evidence for Phil doing anything majorly wrong- it's literally hearsay and gossip. Yes, his brother has been convicted and sentenced- what evidence do we have that PS actually supported him? And at the end of the day he didn't actually commit the crime. The press decided quite a while ago that PS was done- they've been quite successful in their campaign to oust him and Holly too.

Ladykryptonite · 20/05/2023 22:56

Cabbagepatch - I would say 'winning' for holly would have been to call out inappropriate behaviour from the get go, rather than standing by doing nothing

He took out a high court injunction against the boy which suggests something is wrong. They met when he was 12.
I also dated someone who's wife was a former costar of PS and was told about him hacking radio stations and other illicit behaviour ....

Nailed it. I have been told by a very reliable source that once HW found out about the brother she was angry with PS for knowingly putting her kids at risk. That's friendship ending stuff right there.

Bloody hell. That would do it.

FantasticMax · 20/05/2023 23:10

I just feel like she only spoke up when she thought she was being damaged. The stories that hit the media this week, just felt like a super spin venture from Holly’s team, painting her as a victim. I don’t believe that’s the case …. she’s smart and savvy enough, all media stories seemed to point to a poor Holly narrative and not (the truth) that she turned a blind eye to what was going on

I can understand that but Holly wasn’t at all bothered about PS’s alleged relationship with his young runner/PA who he had known since he was 12. And she can’t deny knowing about it because it was all over the internet at the time. Instead of being concerned about it she did the “coming out” interview with him.
