To not understand what Philip Scofield did wrong?

I’m not a fan of Phil or Holly and have never watched This Morning. However, I’ve read about the issues the show has been facing in the news recently and am at a loss to understand why Phil had to step down. What did he actually do wrong?

I know his brother has been imprisoned for a heinous crime but obviously that’s nothing to do with Phil. So I don’t understand why he decided to resign.

And how does anyone know for a fact that he was aware of what his brother did but didn’t go to the police? That seems unlikely?!

He admitted it in Court. I believe PS made a statement to the Court.

I was wondering the same OP so thanks for asking!

Yep me too, I was talking about it with my husband earlier, we wondered what he'd done, we don't watch daytime TV so had no idea he hadn't been on etc.

I'm no fan of Phillip Schofield but Holly has only started distancing herself from him since she thought he was damaging her brand. That's not what I call friendship. She's gone hugely down in my estimation. I liked her. Not now.

But you could look at this as Holly disagreeing with his actions, and therefore distancing herself.

Ladykryptonite · 20/05/2023 21:02

If holly disagreed with his actions then she shoulda distanced herself a long time ago

Tinkerbyebye · 20/05/2023 21:04

@redroseq
it’s all been in the press/social media, inappropriate behaviour with a runner in the show, which in turn led to him coming out, no issues with that other than his hand was forced otherwise he would continue his lie

Queuegate

and then his brother, who he knew about and just said don’t do it again

Personally I feel he’s no loss, and I bet more and more will come out.

He admitted in court that his brother had told him. He said he told his brother he 'didn't want to hear any more about it' and that it must never happen again.

His words.

Trial transcripts have been quoted in the press.

dayswithaY · 20/05/2023 21:06

Disagreeing with his actions? What, in slow motion?

Holly is on borrowed time. When the stories about Phil’s “friendships” come spilling out - and they will - she can’t pretend she didn’t know. If you present yourself as best friends you can’t backtrack when it no longer suits your agenda.

TheBucketWoman · 20/05/2023 21:07

Holly is that you?

beatrice14 · 20/05/2023 21:12

It's abhorrent that he covered up for his brother - and did the studios and Holly know? It feels like they haven't reformed since the previous scandals of child abuse.. . I never realised he was so bad -when I heard about the coming out story, I thought that his wife probably knew and it was a consented-to lavender marriage, like several Hollywood actors etc would do in the past, although of course it might not've been. I also assumed the runner was of age when the relationship began - but if he was employed by the show that's disturbing - and the age and power gap is wide anyway.

LuckOfTheDrawer · 20/05/2023 21:16

TheBucketWoman · 20/05/2023 21:07

Holly is that you?

😄 I'm not defending Holly really.

I imagine we'll find out more about what happened over time.

Bloopsie · 20/05/2023 21:19

On twitter talk if court injuction? That lasts until july and video of him in a cafe with a 10 year old boy who he became friends with on social media and the boy started being his assistant on TM at 15…

He admitted it in an interview some time ago. I read it in a BBC news article. Good knows why he hasn't been charged too. Vile.

redroseq · 20/05/2023 21:21

Apparently he’s still gonna be working for ITV - just not on This Morning!

Greenfairydust · 20/05/2023 21:22

Come on...

When his brother told him he was messing around with teenagers he simply told him not to mention it again.

And then there is the young runner.

LizzieSiddal · 20/05/2023 21:26

I’d bet my house on him never presenting a show on TV ever again. No one wants to watch him on This Morning, why would they want to watch him on anything else?

ddisaster · 20/05/2023 21:27

I'm assuming given the timing there'll be something in the Sunday's

The fact he has managed to hang on to his job this long is surprising

My thoughts too.
Something Schofield also did was suggest that child sexual abuse/grooming couldn't have happened in the BBC corridors implying that those children's suffering was invalid/didn't happen.
As a survivor of this, that comment made my blood boil. He's a twat.

Startyabastard · 20/05/2023 21:33

Do you think there will be an investigation of the abuse he inflicted on that young runner? I wish there would be.
He does appear to be trying to save his self image.

MightyFishwife · 20/05/2023 21:33

I’m not a fan of HW by any stretch but posters saying she’s as bad as him — after he copped for his nonce brother and groomed a teenager — are having a laugh. Your internalised misogyny is showing.

greencardigangirl · 20/05/2023 21:34

Are you really this naive OP? Really?

Missjkay · 20/05/2023 21:34

I think they both need to go. It started with the queens funeral….
Interesting how be kind seems to have been forgotten by certain celebrities though!

PaddingtonTheAngelofDeath · 20/05/2023 21:35

I don't understand why people were so proud of him saying he was gay.

He hid it for years to protect his brand, he thought it was unsuitable, he perpetuated the idea that being gay was somehow wrong but being married right. He wasn't brave coming out in 2020, no one cares and it was only a smokescreen, it would have been brave(r) in the 80/90s.

Agree about Holly, safeguarding needs everyone to stand up and say something. Turning a blind eye makes her complicite.

Startyabastard · 20/05/2023 21:36

I'm surprised Philip was not in trouble with the police if he didn't inform them when it was going on.
I am for not for one minute doubting those poor victims, but I'd love to know why he wasn't reprimanded, unless he was and we don't know about it.
