To not understand what Philip Scofield did wrong?

I’m not a fan of Phil or Holly and have never watched This Morning. However, I’ve read about the issues the show has been facing in the news recently and am at a loss to understand why Phil had to step down. What did he actually do wrong?

I know his brother has been imprisoned for a heinous crime but obviously that’s nothing to do with Phil. So I don’t understand why he decided to resign.

It's amazing how there's so much bad stuff around this individual, and then people are going to get lengths to defend him, "well it's not that bad", "it was his brother".

No wonder people get away with so much when each one of these allegations is dismissed and when you look at the wider picture you've let him off the hook for a whole string of bad behaviours.

It reminds me of Barrymore and how general homophobia allowed him to get away with so much with a lot of people saying "it's just something those gays get up to". I see the same here, and if the sex of the other parties was female there would be a lot more outrage.

Child abusers generally groom the people around them to get this reaction. No one likes to think anyone would be capable of abusing children and find it hard to believe someone would do that, let alone someone you believe to be a nice and decent person because thats the picture theyve curated for you

Aside from the story about the young male runner (which I believe to be true) there as a tweet yesterday that has since been deleted from a woman who lives in a University town or city. She didn’t specify where. She used to see Schofield around with a young man whom she presumed was his student son whom he was visiting, it was only later she learned that he doesn’t have a son. He only has daughters. This young man had been set up in a flat and everything.

Honestly Schofield is far more disgusting than any of us can imagine.

It's interesting how if he had been cavorting with very young (almost underage) girls/ women - he probably would not have gotten the same leeway as he has for so long.
It's like he has come out as gay, therefore he is part of a 'vulnerable minority' and his behaviour is excused or overlooked by many....'oh we can't say anything because homophobia'...

No, he's just an ordinary creep.

aquashiv · 21/05/2023 12:04

The allegations of covering for his brother was awful if true.

His whole persona is nauseating fake nice. Think many people have spoken out how mean he is to work with.
The being gay and lying to his wife and I guess his fans
His irritating laughing over nothing

This is a good point. I wonder if those defending it because of legal age of consent would be saying it was a relationship choice for a 16 year old girl still in school uniform.

Yep. I think if what he desired was a happy relationship/marriage with a fellow adult gay man he would have come out years or possibly decades ago. IMO the het family man image has been about more than just hiding from homophobia.

They should cancel This Morning and put something more interesting on instead.

Why the Holly hate.. as far as I can tell she hasn't been grooming youngsters or covering for relatives who have since been found guilty of sexual abuse of children..

No but she will have been fully onboard and aware of his bad behaviour, and chose to ignore it for as long as it suited her. It highlights her bad judgement and character.

People moan but you kept watching, YOU kept them presenting.

Phil started a relationship with a runner, but that runner probably wanted to get on/ so went with it. Unfortunately Phil’s bro is a pedo. Phil told him to stop 😒 Holly probably knew. Holly definitely knew Phil was sleeping with a runner. Inappropriate.
She knew but she will keep her job - kick Phil to the curb and suckers keep watching!

Christ, This Morning is full of presenters /guests with questionable ethics, to say the least. Esther Rantzen condemned Jimmy Saville whilst happily having her pic taken sucking his shirt buttons. Gino the robber.
🤮

Philip didn't start a relationship with a runner - who then used it to further his career

Philip befriended a 10 year old and then got him a job as a runner when he was older as part of him grooming the boy

massive difference

I don't really understand the constant focus on this. However, he has a long history of falling out with people doesn't he? The list is long. And people fall out all the time. So why does it need to be anything else? Loads of speculation. We'll never know the truth.

All the above. PS has behaved appallingly. How anyone can defend him is beyond my comprehension.

I’m not defending him at all - just trying to separate the facts from the hearsay.

Who even watches telly in the morning?! Maybe just DO something else?!

Murdoch1949 · 22/05/2023 03:26

Schofield will initially host a new show and the Soap Awards, but after that I expect him to have to try Channel 5. He issued statements without consulting Willoughby, while referring to her in the statement. She's probably still annoyed about the queue jumping at Queen's laying in state - maybe Schofield pushed for that to happen. He's got a £300,000 pay off to go early (contract was up in September), so he'll not be at a good bank soon. The runner on the show story is more interesting, a young boy at the time. Photos all over Twitter regarding this.

Yes because everything you do, all the time, is noteworthy. The snobbish responses on here are something else.

Can you really fail to see that your life isn't the only way to live. Some people can't Do something else, some people have been Doing something else all night, some people want to not Do anything.

Sunflowers80 · 22/05/2023 08:49

Has it been proven he actually groomed the young man? No, so just rumours and I'm not a fan of phillip either. His wife probably knew he was gay and lots of gay men marry and even get on with their wifes , no crime there either. Why many people saying he groomed the lad when it's been proven?

Shitzngiggles · 22/05/2023 10:04

Had social media been around during JS's time I'm pretty sure there would be plenty of posters saying it's only rumours, nothing been proven etc. You often find no smoke without fire and so many people have their doubts about PS they can't all be wrong.

If it's just a rumour then why the need for a super injunction?

And maybe his wife was in on it the whole time (although I doubt she would have married him had she known), however the salient point is if you are the face of morning television, your behaviour must be squeaky clean, and his wasn't.

Given that the target audience for these shows are middle aged women (wives and mothers themselves) they would have very little sympathy for how he behaved, exposing her to ridicule. Whether or not she knew she was being used, it doesn't reflect well on him.

Are you really this naive OP? Really?

Naive? There are lots of us who don't watch the show, or ITV, or know anything about any of it and might be wondering why its such a big story in the news.

I don't really understand why they are such a big deal, its just daytime TV fluff. But it seems to be A Thing, so she's asking a question.

Doesn’t even have to wait until she returns, as it’s 24/7 on social media from people who think they know everything and those brave #bekind souls who like to post their venom anonymously.

@Willmafrockfit
Willoughby is going to have a tough time of it when she returns

I doubt it. I think she should go to as she's behaved badly in a different way - in particular the cynical using of him when it suits her, even when (given the internet knew) she must have known.

I enjoyed reading Eamonn Holmes comments here enormously. Good for him!

Ex-This Morning star Eamonn Holmes tears into Willoughby and Schofield

The GB News breakfast show presenter also suggested Holly Willoughby was being duplicitous when she claimed to be sad that Mr Schofield was leaving the hit ITV show.
